As a family we stayed in the two units on the waterfront, which worked perfectly. Plenty of swimming, diving off the jetty and tramps with various grades. The major disappointment was that kayaks were not available to guests, although there were many on-shore, apparently personally owned. People like ourselves, are experienced kayakers at home so in hindsight we should have checked availability before arrival. Mosquitoes were a slight challenge. We self-catered so didn't choose meals in the dining room.

We decided to do something a little different this time and stayed in our tent! We had the perfect location under a Pohutukawa tree and just absolutely loved waking up to the sound of the birds and the sunrise over the beautiful bay. The staff are friendly as always and although Covid put restrictions on being able to eat together, we had fun making our own meals and cooking up the fish we caught just out from the bay.

What a secret gem this place is. In a beautiful bay and with genuinely lovely people looking after the facility. We stayed in the lodge itself which was clean and with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities but we were the only people using this accommodation area.

The accommodation is very basic, like your grandparent's batch but that's part of the charm. Staff are just wonderful and make you feel at home. The location is very remote, the transfer service is really helpful but if you want to enjoy Great Barrier I recommend bringing your car or hiring one on the Island
