Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a lovely time here, very very nice hosts and such a special spot for our anniversary. We stayed 3 nights, one day was a bit wet so we relaxed in the communal lounge with books. One thing for first time visitors to Great Barrier Island to note is that the food outlets are limited. There are several (good) cafes for breakfast and lunch but not so many dinner options. The Currach is open every day but Wednesday from memory, other places are only open a couple of nights a week, more weekend than midweek. So we wish we had taken some food from home to prepare some of our meals because the kitchen at Pigeons Lodge was well equipped, with plenty of fridge and freezer space.

Everything about pigeons lodge was spot on for our two night three day stay. Such a comfy home, fireplace, comfortable living area and fabulous deck for star gazing. the walk to the hammock spot and lookout is special, and even saw kaka, tui, kereru and piwakawaka. We even managed a mid winter bath outside under the stars. Highly recommend. We'll be back.

We had a lovely time staying here for two nights. Beautiful to watch the wood pigeons so close up. The owners are both awesome people. Due to personal circumstances we had to cut our trip short, but we will surely be back to do all the things we didn't have time to do.

We had the main lodge set in beautiful NZ bush with a view of the sea to ourselves (4 couples), all with our own bathrooms. Perfect for a getaway , hosts were friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The lodge was spotlessly clean and having the kitchen, large lounge and amazing deck with lots of comfortable outdoor furniture was great. The short walk through the bush on an easy track up the hill through bush to see the sunset was a must .The lodge had everything you need for a perfect holiday. We would stay there again.

The lodge lived up to its name, with wood pigeons, Tui and Kakas all making a visit. The rooms were private and comfy and the hosts, the hosts are amazing. The private access to the lookout and beach were a great extra. Harvesting Rock oysters a bonus.

We had a wonderful break in this peaceful and relaxing lodge. It has a bush setting with sea views. A wood pigeon even popped down from the trees above to keep us company on the deck briefly one evening. The hosts were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Highly recommended for those who want to escape the bustle of city life.

This was a truly great experience as the property is stunning, amenities great and then hosts could not have been more accommodating. The host even picked us up at the airport to save us a taxi ride and gave us some great tips about the island. Highly recommend!

Thank you for a Great Stay on The Barrier. We were fortunate to have the lodge to ourselves and enjoyed the peace and quietness of it all. It is a great property with fantastically helpful owners and reflects the awesomeness of The Barrier. I wish we had longer- but we’ll be back.
