Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What an experience - from the time we arrived and welcomed by the amazing staff with a glass of wine by the fire, to the degustation dinner hosted by Al Brown and James Milton. The lodge rooms were just gorgeous with lovely fireplace and private setting. The staff here lead by Eve Reilly, were incredible - friendly, overly helpful, nothing was ever a problem - I felt like I had known them for ages! The food and beverages were all fantastic and you could help yourself anytime. Nothing was a problem for the chefs - loved the homebaking too! Can't wait to plan another trip back here - what a NZ hidden gem!

My 12 year old son now has memory that he will carry with him for the rest of his life . We had an outstanding time with exceptionally warm friendly staff and an outstanding guide. Our guide Chris was brilliant, but also it was not too easy so my son learnt a lot from him. The safety aspect was well addressed all the way. We will be coming back.

I visited Poronui over Easter with my 13 year old son to hunt under instruction of one of the guides. Everything about the place works well; Eve runs a good show - but that is also evident in the fact that all the staff work very well. The food is superb and the cabins are very comfortable. Dinner in the main lodge is a convivial affair and the whole area is safe for a family. The Kaimanawa Forest backs onto the 3000 hectare station which creates a magical location for the whole operation. The hunting was good as well - we had an excellent guide; I will definitely be back.

My husband had been to Poronui previously with my eldest son and they really wanted to share their magical experiences with the rest of the family. It certainly didn't disappoint. From the very first communication with Eve (to call her the Manager completely understates her amazing all encompassing role at Poronui) to reluctantly bidding them all farewell, our family had one of the most amazing experiences ever. Arriving to actually 'see' the trout in the river below whilst dining on the first of many incredible feasts, set the tone for an adventurous week. Three nights at Safari Camp; where the sound of the rushing waterfall, the crackle of the fire and the laughter from the kids (10 & 13) playing together on the banks below setting traps for the eels will never be forgotten.

We just returned from our 16th trip to NZ. Over the years , we have travelled extensively in both island and have stayed at a great variety of accommodations , including all of the "super lodges' Poronui stands head and shoulders above all , for its combination of beautiful location, good fishing, good food, friendliness, and attention to the needs of each guest . We think it is by far the best lodge in NZ .

If you're a fly-fisherman (or woman), Poronui is paradise. It's pretty close to a paradise even if you're not a fisherman. Accommodations are as good or better than any other similar lodge I've stayed in. The food is outstanding. Service is about as good as it gets anywhere. Eve and her staff go out of their way continuously to ensure that your every need is met. The fishing is awesome. I highly recommend a heli-fishing trip into the back country - one of the top 3 highlights of my long fly-fishing career. Love it! Highly recommended.

This has been our third year in a row of experiencing Poronui's hospitality. Eve and her staff are always welcoming and makes your stay, exceptional. The accommodation is first class and the food always fresh and "local" (Venison, honey). They have experienced Guides to help you hunt, fish and horse ride. For those who want to relax, a massage is a must.

It is really difficult to describe a place as unique as the Poronui Lodge. Our visits (two so far) to the lodge certainly rank very high in our “best holiday” list. And there are many reasons: accommodation is lovely, just the way you would expect it for a high class fishing and hunting lodge. The dining and lounge areas are very cozy, rustic but with style. The service altogether is outstanding, very friendly and helpful. This is true for not only the management but all other personal involved. Our guides were very professional and had great hunting and fishing skills. They taught us a lot and were always patient. Food was excellent, wines are fantastic and the atmosphere around the big dining table with all guests and guides is very unique. What a lovely idea that all guides

This November will be our 3rd trip to Poronui, our favorite New Zealand fishing lodge. Eve, her staff and the guides sole goal is to insure that you have an outstanding experience at the lodge and streams that’s truly memorable in every aspect. This is a quality fishing lodge with excellent food, accommodations, and ambience without being pretentious. Informality is the word of the day, characterized by casual dress, easy access to everything and the wonderful experience of sharing your meals with the guides, staff and other guests. I’m an avid fisherman and have had two wonderful years with Sean as a guide. He not only knows the rivers, etymology, but is a great communicator on how to stalk, and present the fly to the rainbows and browns, while giving me some casting
