Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our stay in Poronui came at the end of our visit to New Zealand and what a place to ensure you want to return . In fact all of the other guests there were returning visitors and we can see why . We spent 3 days riding on the vast estate . Our guide Olivia was exceptional , not only was she extremely accomplished with the horses but also very knowledgable about the estate and the different activities , fly fishing , forestry , hunting and history . Our horses were perfect , used to the terrain and well looked after . The accommodation was five star , the food , our picnics and dinner delicious . We felt like we were staying with family yet treated like royalty . I could not recommend this highly enough .

Our private bungalow was hospital clean with a deck view of the hundreds of Red Stags and thsheep herds grazing next to a crystal clear river that was home to monster trout that took flys readily. Dining with all guests and guides made it feel like eating with your family and the food and wine was as good a many Paris eateries. Quiet elegance on a 16,000 acre estate designed for its guests seeking adventure in splendor with impeccable sincere and authentic New Zealand old fashioned hospitality. Big trout take dry flys here.

I have stayed at Poronui and the Blake House a number of times, and all stays without exception have been fantastic. The station is over 16000 acres so lots to do and see. I have visited on business (as well as with family) you are well catered for, and looked after by Eve and her team. Lots of different accommodation on the property from the cabins at the main lodge, the majestic Blake House, down to the camping by the Mohaka River at the Safari Camp. Unique experiences are something that the Poronui team exceed expectations on, my favorite would have to be private chef at the Blake House or dinner in the underground wine cellar. Poronui is pretty magical and if you are wanting once in a lifetime kind of experience - highly recommend.

You just can't get any better than Poronui Lodge for NZ trout fishing! The lodge is situated on a huge station that extends for miles in all directions and is bordered by national parks that offer a multitude of trout fishing streams accessible by vehicle or helicopter. The fishing guides and lodge staff take excellent care of the guests with great guiding and instruction, beautifully prepared and delicious meals, and for those wishing to see the extensive property from the back of a horse, expert wrangling. No need goes unmet and every amenity top-drawer. This is a place that is a fly fisherman/woman's lifetime dream.

My family visited here in summer, and we had an experience that we will never forget. This was one of the highlights of our New Zealand trip for the whole family. The men took a helicopter to a private fly fishing reserve, while the ladies enjoyed a day of amazing horseback riding. The food was incredible, and the staff were wonderful.

This place is truly wonderful. It's like staying at some remote rich persons estate for a few days! The land is amazing and truly breathtaking. If you are in to hunting and fishing this is the place for you. Even if you are not there are still plenty of activities, horse back riding, foraging, walking. They have a cute little camp lodge or a house or the lodge itself to stay at. The staff are friendly accommodating and it really does feel like you are staying with friends.

My husband and I visited for 4 nights with 3 days of the most amazing fly fishing with the excellent guide Dave Wood! The accommodations were superb and the food fabulous! Top notch facility in a breathtaking vista. We caught Browns and Rainbows! Our guide paced us well for our abilities. Nice communal dinners after a day on the river. Highly recommend!

For many years I heard about the excellent trout fishing in New Zealand. The fishing at Poronui exceeded all my expectations. Despite some heavy, unseasonal rain my excellent guide, Duncan McDonald, was able to get me three days fishing on the many headwaters around Poronui. The waters were crystal clear - sight fishing with a dry fly for large wild brown and rainbow trout yielded fish ranging from 3-7lb! My partner enjoyed the many other activities offered by the lodge including guided walks and horse riding. Like many of the very best lodges and hotels, the team at Poronui - led by manager, Eve - were outstanding! Always a greeting, a smile and some offer to improve our stay. The lodge rooms, food and wine were top notch. One piece of advice - include an additional

Superb hospitality, comfort and cleanliness are all givens at Poronui Lodge where we stayed for 4 nights in February. As well as this there is the close attention to detail - all members of the team go the extra mile in terms of anticipating guests' needs. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, they create an informal and welcoming atmosphere without compromising standards of service. We enjoyed a wide variety of fresh, beautifully cooked and presented meals, served at the communal dining table. It was fun to spend time getting to know the other guests and to hear about their activities during the day, as well as swapping travel stories. My husband Peter was fly-fishing (he will post his own review), and there were plenty of activities for me to choose from as a
