Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Poronui is an outdoors Gem. Spectacular access to great fly fishing, hiking and biking . The service level is personal and delightful with a genuine concern to make sure all your needs are looked after and your experience is world class. The Guides for all activities are knowledgeable and top of their fields. Accommodation is nice and functional , but this is not a place where you want to stay in your room. There is much to do and a haven for the outdoors. The food is as good as you will find in any exclusive foody lodge and it’s plentiful. The staff and management ensure you will have. Wonderful stay. It’s easy to see why many international guests have been returning year after year. We will be back soon.

I can’t say enough good things about Poronui. The staff is amazing, the property is fantastic, and the service is exceptional. My husband and I stayed for 3 nights. The food was delicious. We went heli-hiking, fly fishing, and clay shooting. Our fly fishing guide, Craig, was so patient with me. He was a great teacher! We both caught a rainbow trout. Our hiking guide, Lindsey, was so fun. They flew us to the top of a mountain, and we hiked down and had lunch at their Safari Camp. So beautiful!! I can’t say enough good things about this place and these people. Eve and Claire are fantastic hosts!

We had a fantastic weekend staying at Blake House, Poronui, and being part of the group who met and dined with Al Brown. Saturday nights dinner was a degustation course prepared and cooked by Al and Hayden. Loved every dish, especially ingredients I haven’t tasted before. Paua soup, and venison cheeks! Delish!

Like all the other reviews we agree fully that it was an excellent experience all around. the location and the meals are amazing-but what really made Poronui such great experience was the staff. everyone works together in an easy comfortable way to give the best experience possible and you feel like your staying with friends. we came specifically to ride horses for a few days and it was by far the best riding experience we had in NZ. The horses are kept tuned up mentally and physically, they are immaculately groomed and a true pleasure to ride no matter your riding level. we rode in very windy conditions and passed endless wildlife popping up all the time and the horses were solid, no spooking.the tack is great quality and well maintained. they offer you, the rider , anything

Delighted you enjoyed your riding experience at Poronui despite the June weather. I agree the Dryzabone coats are winners. Cadbury and Texas and the rest of the team are now out on grass for a couple of months. More adventures next time, see you then.

Sightly outside of Taupo, the Poronoui Lodge is the paradise for the people looking for a nature retreat ... the boutique lodge offers a wide range of activities including fly fishing of course, hunting, horse riding , mountain biking, hiking, honey tasting and much more! We did experience the hike with Elisabeth which is passionate about nature and knows a lot. We did spot many wild deers on the huge property. The Honey tasting is really interesting and made me love honey again ..! When it comes to the Food, Steven, the skilled chef, will prepare the food in front of you based on your wishes. We had a wonderful dining experience pairing with the local wines. If you are more extreme than us in term of nature, they also offer to the guests a Safari camp which appears to be more

Poronui is all about excellence coupled with relaxed quality and very personal service. The fishing is outstanding by world standards. The accommodation is comfortable, spacious, and altogether fitting for a first class lodge. The food is outstanding, not in the sense of silver service or fantastic experiments in chemistry, but in good honest dishes combining exceptionally fresh ingredients expertly prepared and professionally served. The remarkable warmth and friendly atmosphere brings back regular guests again and again to enjoy the wonderful experience that is Poronui.
