Trip Report: Hotel Ducale in Maestre (Venice)
Hotel:
Very Clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was European and buffet style. Plentiful and good. Breakfast included coffee, Tea, Hot Choc, juices, etc. Front desk was manned at all hours and there is a small bar for coffee and drinks. The Lounge was large with a flat screen TV and enough room. There is a computer just off the lounge if you need access to e-mail, etc. Wifi in the lobby/lounge area is fast. (i'll get some pictures loaded)
Location: On the Via Triestina between the airport and Maestra. The trip from the airport is about 10 minutes on the bus. Take the bus #15 from the airport. Show the bus driver the address, he'll make sure you get off at the correct stop. The bus stop is 100 feet from the hotel front door. From this bus stop you can also take the #4 bus to and from Venice in about 20 minutes. Buses run less frquently on Sundays/Holidays. The front desk knows the schedule.
In the hotel it was a mixed crowd from all over the World. Families with children, retired couples, young couples, even a couple of groups
Outside the hotel 200' yard to the left is a reccomended restaurant. In the other direction (past the bus stop) there are many as you walk. Just outside the hotel and around the corner is a bar and a take away pizza place. There is a laundry (pay machines) next to the take away. Pharmacy, newstand, other shops line the street.
I walked around at night and never felt at danger. There were women, children on the streets coming and going quite late.
The hotel doesn't have meals other than breakfast. There are two shops across the street. A small gorcery store/deli & another selling cigarettes and gifts.
The Room:
Pretty small but in line with B&B's i've stayed at in other parts of Europe. The room was functional (what little time i was there) Double bed, desk, wardrobe, small TV (I never turned it on) Phone. Bed was firm. The bathroom has a small shower but great water pressure. (Personally, i'd trade the bidet for more shower space. But, that's just me) Linen changed & room cleaned daily. My room had a balcony. All rooms seem to have a window that opens. I didn't need A/C, so i cannot comment.
WiFi in the room didn't work, the signal wasn't strong enough. (Room 120)
I used my laptop in the lounge. As i wasn't there much at all, this wasn't a big deal.
The room was very clean.
No need to dicuss rates. The price was very good, but i'm sure rates change throughout the year.
. Money:
i took some Euro's with me, and got money from cash machines in Venice as needed. The exchange rate seems to be better from the cash machines. Maestro card worked fine.
Getting around:
At the airport, go to the tourist desk and ask for the "ACTV"travel card. You can buy for 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, etc. They will give you directions to the buses, water buses, etc. The card allows unlimited travel on public transportation throughout the area. In Venice, you can use the Water Bus with this. The Water taxis and Gondolas are not covered and are expensive. Taxis (Cars, vans) are very expensive. The bus and water bus are fast enough and nothing is very far anyway. (I'm sure you are aware, there are no vehicles in venice)
At the bus plaza in Venice the #1 & #2 go up the Grand Canal to San Marco square. There are many stops along the way.
At S. Marco square, there are water buses to the other islands. Schedules are posted. All covered by the ACTV card.
Take a cheap tour up and down the Grand Canal. Be one of the first in line to board the water bus and get a seat outside in the front or back of the water bus. At S. Marco square, change sides and see the other side of the Grand Canal.
NOTICE: The water bus can get really, really crowded.
Tips: don't buy a map of Venice, it wont help. big yellow signs with arrows show the way to the major sights, or just ask someone. It's not that big a town, and you should get lost and explore. It's all safe and very interesting.
There are no free toilets, and there aren't many public toilets. Toilets cost 1.50 euro (The few i saw) Alternately, it's a good excuse to stop at a cafe and have a drink. Ask if they have a toilet first.
If you get a chance, splurge for lunch at the "Metropole" Hotel, just down a little from S. Marco square....unbelievable.
If i missed anything, feel free to mail me
Pictures were too big to upload. I'll save them down and try again

I spent 2 nights at the hotel and I found it to be clean and tidy. The room and shower unit are small as previously stated in other reviews but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. The staff were friendly, helpful and polite. To get to the hotel from Marco Polo airport I woudl recommend you take the number 15 bus. Before you leave the airport, there is an information desk where you can obtain your bus ticket from. Just tell them how many journeys you intend to take by bus and they will charge you accordingly. The price of a ticket as at Feb 2010 was approximately 1.10 euros per journey. Once out of the airport go to the bus terminals over the road and wait for a number 15. Once on the bus swipe you bus ticket on the machinie. The bus jouney from the airport to the hotel should take approximately 7 minutes. If you sit on the right hand side of the bus you cannot miss it as it is a bright "pinklish" buiding wiht the name of the hotel clearly displayed. Once off the bus the hotel is a short 3 minute walk. Like everyone has stated I would also recommend you get the number 19 bus to get you to the main part of Venice. The bus stop for the 19 bus is just around the corner - again no more then a 2 or 3 minute walk from the hotel. Once you reach the main part of Venice you will have various options as to what to do next. You can take the Riverbus to other parts of Venice i.e. San Marco. Please note that the hotel staff will print off the various bus timetables for you if you ask and will provide you with any other information that you may have. I cannnot comment on the breakfast provided as I didn't try it.
Overall, if you are planning a short stay in Venice then i woudl recommend this hotel.

This hotel was a very convrenient practical place to stay on our way to Venice airport after the end of a cruise. Price we paid reasonable. 20 minute airport transfers arranged by reception E15 for two - price falls to E10 for two when you share the taxi. Just a single 20 minute bus ride from Piazzale Roma bus station - which is a square right on the edge of Venice - just where you need to be. The town is pleasant but we caught a bus back into Venice for the evening, which is beautiful.
Hotel room average for Italy (i.e. small) but absolutely fine. Staff were very helpful to us. Breakfast ample. Would definitely use again as a stopover, probably not as a holiday destination.

The Hotel refused to provide accommodation. we forgot Our passports at the hotel in Milan holiday inn. The Milan hotel manager called Ducale and confirmed that the passport are in their possession and they can courier it to the hotel within 24 hours. But we were refused accommodation. The holiday inn hotel manager called another hotel in Central Venice to let us stay and sent them colored copy of our passports. AND arranged to send our passport to our next destination in Florence. We go our passports in Florence to continue our journey. Ducale NEVER provided the customer service holiday inn did and we never stayed there. They actually made quite a few bucks off us and the other hotel managers apologized for Hotel Ducale's "stupidity in customer service"

I’m going to start this review by saying you get what you pay for. But…. We were here for two nights and the first night it was terribly loud from people running around the corridors and opening and closing doors. We felt like at any minute someone could barge through our door.
Also the customer service was terrible. When we tried to order a taxi to the airport we got told 5 minutes 30 minutes later finally one arrives, I got told you can pay card but then the taxi guy said no you can’t. And it was all a mess.
I’m terrible disappointed in this day but as I say you get what you pay for.

Where to start offered twin room the size of a shoebox. When we complained we were given a slightly bigger room with a king sized bed. Air con hairdryer all good. no coffee and tea making facilities no breakfast as they had closed the restaurant. Bar next door rude staff. No room service at all. Shower size of a small matchbox. Ants in the room. Location is dire there is nothing around, no restaurants close by. The closest tram/bus stop is only a minute walk away but takes half an hour to get into Venice. Id stay somewhere else

Stayed here for 2 nights on my solo travelling trip in Italy. Room was lovely, staff couldn't do enough for me, even doing me a little flask for my room as there is no kettle... (i know right 🤣) so bring a travel one if you need. Shower is lovely and hot but very slim, and bed was super comfy. Best sleep ive had in ages.

We looked for a place for the night before our flight out of venice. We reserved a twin room. When we arrived we were told that we received a double room instead. We asked to change the room. The reception didn't agree abd blamed it on the booking agency. I understand that sometimes reservation mistakes may happen, however they didn't make any effort of fixing the situation. Instead they were rude to us. They mentioned that it happens all the time, and that they don't care if we give them a bad review. I recommend to avoid this establishment

Not to clean and very noisy hotel next to a busy street. Small Rooms. The area is not very conveniet for traveling to the centre of venice. There are far better alternatives for 3 star hotels in Venice mestre. We were taken there after a cancelled flight.

+1
I took a room for two nights at this hotel based on a few reviews and mostly because of the price, however and unfortunately it was disappointing from the very first moment I arrived. The place is very outdated and it looks dirty and not well maintained everywhere you look at, the room I got was like a sauna and it smelled like some kind of chemicals… Gladly there was a window, however the noise coming from outside can be annoying sometimes. The beds are OK, I could sleep well despite the temperature and smell… I tried to use the TV and even though they advertise SKY, I couldn’t get to work (it doesn’t mean it’s not there) but it should work from the first time. There were two remote controls and none of them worked either, so I quit and didn’t try anymore. When taking a shower, the doors hardly close and they seem they are going to fall apart. There was a chair having footprints in it which gives the impression they don’t really clean the place; the walls are like made of paper, you can hear everything your neighbors say and do, not clear enough to understand but it should not be like that….
The breakfast is not worth it either, they have everything you need but the quality is less than average for a place in Italy, they serve canned fruit and have a coffee machine serving some kind of cheap Nespresso….very disappointing.
They offer a taxi to take guests to the airport for which they charge a fortune, for 4 persons they charge 12 euro/each and you get to ride in dirty minivan… the driver doesn’t even make the effort to take you to the main entrance but leave you somewhere in the parking, really unacceptable.
If I would have known this or read well the negative reviews of this place, I would have never booked it. It’s better to spend some more money and stay in a better place. My conclusion is that they take advantage of their location to get the most of their guest with the less effort possible.
Only positive is the very friendly lady at the front desk, she’s a very lovely person. The location is all right, in 20 minutes you’re in Venice and about 15 to get to the airport.

Yes the room had a hairdryer and contrary to another review the hotel was NOT dirty and the staff were friendly and helpful.
We chose this hotel because it was close to the airport and had a good reception hours (we had a very late flight). It took less than 20 min to get to the hotel from the airport (but I am pretty sure the taxi driver was speeding - he drove like he was in a race car!). Very nice hotel, and a great place to rest after a late flight.

Windsor and Maidenhead, United Kingdom9 contributions10 helpful votesHi please could you tell me how Close to main Venice this is please?
Hi, it is 20 minutes away by bus or 25 minutes by tramway. The bus stop and tramway are right across the street from the hotel - 1 minute. Both take you to the entrance of Venice where busses, traina and port meet.
