We stayed here as part of our Abel Tasman Walk - food is very expensive, beds comfy and bathroom a bit cold. We loved the seclusion and the staff were very accommodating. We were at the end of the season so the pizza bar was closed which would have been lovely.
From the initial online enquiry, to checking in and everything over the days we were there we could fault the level of service - special shout out to Amy on Reception, and Pea in the food service area who were both extremely friendly and professional - Pea has an infectious enthusiasm and we were made to feel very relaxed and welcome . We were very happy with our room. We had both lunch in the outside courtyard and dinner in the restaurant , found lunch very good and dinner exceptional and the food to be very realistically priced. Great spot within close walk to lovely beach area and of course in amoungst plenty of nice walking tracks . make sure you say hello to "Jimmy" !
This is a place I have visited and stayed in at various times over the past 20 years, but the first time in the last 10. There was no obvious upgrade of facilities since my last visit.; but there was a significant change in the tariff, even allowing for the time period. The room we booked was the cheapest ("Standard") at $409. For the price it was pretty abysmal. Very basic with an en suite that was tired and a dangerously slippery, concrete floor. The room itself badly needed some form of floor covering to accommodate the sand that naturally infiltrates. The restaurant was very pleasant and the food good although at lunch times it was a bit chaotic as large numbers of walkers drop in. Service was generally good. It is in a wonderful location, but at $400 - $600+ a night, it needs to ensure it provides that level of accommodation. …
We had spent just over three days walking the Abel Tasman Walk and decided to walk an extra 45 minutes for brunch. We took our boots off and put out packs at a table outside and within seconds a gentleman came out to offer us the menus. We decided to share the blueberry pancakes as we had had a light breakfast in the Awaroa DOC hut much earlier. The pancakes were very light and fluffy with lots of fruit. The Lodge is in a beautiful setting not far from the beach. We did not go inside as we were in our tramping gear. We caught the water taxi from the Lodge beach to Marahau.
Upmarket motel style accommodation in the Able Tasman park. Rooms good but not luxurious. Bar and restaurant very very good. % min walk to a lovely sandy beach. Great place to stay or stop in for a beer/meal on the trip
