Stopped in for a night, while I was travelling from Otago to Picton, to break the trip up. Liked the place so much I stayed an extra night. Clean and warm accommodation. The beach is a stone throw away, staff are friendly. Christchurch city 35mins drive away. Nice vibes, will stay again when I visit the South Island again.
I love staying at Leithfield, I travel through the South Island regularly and always try to stay here. Hot showers, very clean, excellent kitchen and very friendly people. The beach is wild with huge crashing waves, you hear them at night. The air is fresh and helps you to recover from a long drive. Love staying here, there are not many coastal holiday parks in the South Island.
We loved our time here and can't wait to come back. Great facilities and great atmosphere. Everyone was so friendly. The bathrooms clean and great pressure with the shower. 2min walk to the beach and close to home.
My youngest daughter and I spent a night at Leithfield camping grounds in the very luxurious glamping tent, a girls night out! It was her first experience of camping so I've probably ruined her for any future attempts at roughing it lol The beds were very comfortable with piles of fluffy throws and pillows for us to lounge around on. It was a typical Autumn weekend, warm during the day and crispish at night but we still kept the front and back flaps of the tent open. We had them closed off with just the mosquito protection which did it's job well. We wondered along the beach collecting stones which we took back and painted at the table in the outside area of our tent. There was a small cane table and chairs and a larger picnic table which would be enough for a group of 4 which the tent could easily accommodate. The beach itself isn't somewhere I would think would be safe to swim but there's a small childrens public pool just 2 minute walk outside the camping ground that my girl was happy enough to wallow around in. We didn't take any food except a bag of marshmallows and some hot chocolate because we heard the takeaway caravan did great fish n chips and we weren't disappointed. Blue cod, chicken nuggets and chips for 13.00 and it was delicious! We couldn't even fit in one of there deserts which looked good too. The rest of the night was spent going on a bear hunt in the forest, scaring the kid lol playing cards and drinking hot chocolate. The amenities were a 2 minute walk from our tent, everything was very clean and the mugs were big enough to hold 4 marshmallows, this got a special mention from the little person. Both of us had amazing sleeps even tho the sea sounded like it was going to wash over our tent at any moment, it was fantastic! We were up and drinking another hot chocolate after another walk on the beach next morning when a lovely couple came to clean our tent for the next lucky visitors. Ten o'clocks the check out time but don't rush away they said, we're pretty relaxed around here. We still had the fairy forest to check out and drop our rocks off to and brunch at the Blue Pukeko before heading back to Christchurch. Best weekend ever my little one said!…
Easy check in. Helpful friendly owners. We were in a small camper van gave us a nice sunny spot as requested and let us use the chairs from the cabin next door. Clean shower, toilets and kitchen. The kitchen was well set up with electric fry pans, crock pot etc.
We had the pleasure of camping for the weekend at the Leithfield camping ground a week ago What a gem of a camp.Very clean facilities, lovely sites and Friday and Saturday night a caravan by the office does delicious burgers/ fish and chips etc.So close to Christchurch but you could be anywhere.Good spot for children to .While there a meal at the pub is a must ,great beer garden and lovely meals.
Leithfield was my first night stay on my recent motorcycle trip and yes, it was great. The camp ground itself was quiet, but this gave me the kitchen and 'bar' area all to myself. And I had coffee, sat on the bench on the beach as the sun came up which was stunning !
Lovely campsite, great facilities, very well equipped kitchen, everything was super clean and the staff were very friendly. Our kids loved playing in the trees, in the paddling pool and playground nearby...
My stay was fine, the camp was friendly, clean and usable, however I do think it was overpriced. $23 for a mini spot plus $2 for a shower = $25 this was top dollar for 1 person with a tent. Charging extra for a shower hardly happens these days I think if you are going to charge for a shower, it should have been put on the website so people know before hand that this is the case. If I have known it was going to cost $25 I would have continued to one of the other nearby campsites.
A great campground right by the beach and the huge bonus was that we could take our dog. We loved being in The Oval with lots of space around us. The toilets and kitchen were very clean and there was a lovely vibe about the place. Very friendly, helpful people. Thanks Leithfield Holiday Park!
