I booked via Expedia 2 months prior to the stay.
Arrived on the day to find reception unattended and in semi-darkness as it was raining outside and all the lights were turned off. Waited around for 5 minutes before phoning the motel number that was on my Expedia app. A woman answered and told me there was no record of my booking. She was quite rude and offered no apology. Not only this but she said the motel was fully booked, yet at the entrance from the road the 'vacancy' sign was up !
She immediately directed me to the local pub 5 minutes down the road and assured me they would have spare rooms. It made me wonder if this wasn't some sort of set up to send my business to the pub instead.
My traveling companion needed to go to the toilet as we had driven a distance before arriving. Outside reception there were two toilet signs, but each room was empty !! There was nothing inside the rooms that said toilet. It was unbelievable.
I phoned Expedia for them to sort out and they put me on hold for 35 minutes while they tried to phone the motel. When they came back to me they said nobody at the motel would answer their calls.
AVOID this motel.

I was very unimpressed with the Winton Lifestyle Motel. There were a number of issues:
1) The Queen size bed had 3/4 size top & bottom sheets … this is a big health & safety issue and is frankly disgusting
2) The shampoo & conditioner were less than half full …. this suggests the room is not serviced properly
3) The soap was never replenished
4) The tea towel was never replaced
5) The milk had been opened (seal broken and leaking down side) …. implying it was refilled rather than replaced
6) The rubbish did not get emptied during our entire stay
7) There was only one teaspoon and cups were severely tea stained
8) Pillows had severely deteriorated
9) No cleaning occurred whatsoever during our stay ….
I believed the unit was to be serviced every second day …. instead all we got were towels delivered and whoever did that ignored the empty shampoo & conditioner containers and the rubbish I put up on the bench to be noticed.
I tried the contact numbers (saw no staff in entire 4 day stay, reception is unattended). There were no answers, I did get to leave a message with the lady in charge of the residents who told me you had to deal with it.
I discussed the service with various people around Winton & Drummond …. all expressed dismay at this. Some actually worked on building the Motel and feel the owner would be horrified at this state of affairs.
Other people have since pointed out a raft of issues that were highlighted on TripAdvisor & Expedia, etc and in hindsight if I had seen the reviews I would seriously considered staying elsewhere even if it meant travelling from Invercargill.
This is the worst motel I have stayed in, the absolute pits and should be shut down on health issues alone …. I will be looking at further action for some recompense

I had a confirmed booking via Booking dot com for 5 days February 12 to 15th. I rang to check my arrival time to be told my room had been let to someone else and there was no alternative accommodation available. There had been a double booking. The manager told me this happens all the time and her way of dealing with it is to give the room to whoever arrives first and pays (they only take cash). It stinks of a backhander! Avoid like the plague. I spent one night in my car and had to drive miles to find a place to stay. A very dodgy place if you ask me.
