We had a really great time at the Equestrian Lodge. The rooms were ideal and very clean with sheets being changed on a regular basis. The owners personally supervised the cleaning. The grounds are great to either relax in or play games with the children. The pool is very well maintained as is the barbeque. Thorpes Bush is a lovely nature reserve which is next door (1 minute away !) to the Lodge and how lovely it is to be woken in the morning to the sounds of bellbirds amongst other species. A walk through Thorpes Bush before breakfast was a favourite. The lodge is literally two minutes walk from the main centre but it is is very quiet and relaxing. The owners are a lovely couple and only too willing to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible and nothing is too much

We arrived to be greeted by the new British owners who personally showed us our two bed unit. The accommodation was spotless if a little dated and we quickly felt at home. The kitchen facilities were more than adequate and the on site laundry cost only the price of the washing powder $nz2.00. We had brought along the laptop and used the onsite broadband facility. The Motel is located within a few mins walk of Motueka High Street where most of the cafes are and very close to the Golf Club and the water front

After a crossing to the South Island and a long drive from the Ferry Terminal, the Equestrian Lodge came as a welcome sight. The welcome was warm and the British hosts showed us to our room personally. It was spacious, clean, extremely well-appointed and (apart from the missing hair-dryer) had everything required for the stay. The owners advertise the Motel as 'quiet' and indeed it was. They also clearly take great pride in the grounds as we saw them hard at work attending to the very pleasant surroundings. And all of this for NZD 95 (£40) a night. At the end of the trip, when comparing the dozen or so hotels and motels we stayed in (some of the 4*), this place came out top for all around quality and value. It's very conveniently placed for the Abel Tasman National Park.
