Detailed Reviews
Everything we could have hoped for and more. The lodge is a peaceful haven with stunning views, and our hosts made the trip all the more memorable, helping us with anything we needed. We dined in both nights and both dinners and breakfasts were delicious! Hokianga is paradise; we did some lovely local walks and relaxed on the deserted beach. We hope to return sometime in the near future. Thanks Steve & Suzanne!

We spent wo nights in this lodge. Everything is really personal because the lodge only hosts two people. The quality of the lodge is outstanding and the view incredible. The dinner provided was excellent. We even asked for the recipe . The hosts are really friendly and helpful providing tipps for trips etc.

The lodge has spectacular views of the Hokianga harbour and when the weather is fine there is nothing more indulgent than sitting on the deck drinking in the beauty of this area. Steve and Suzanne are welcoming and professional hosts - they know how to make a get away memorable. Definitely a place we intend to return to in the future.

If you’re looking for something luxurious and away from all the madness, this is it! Beautifully built, well thought out lodge with awesome views of the sea and Sandhills. Very private and peaceful. Steve and Suzanne are the best hosts from beautiful meals to impressive local knowledge! You just can’t stay anywhere else in Hokianga! Highly recommend!

I had read all reviews before booking Kokohuia. We spent five nights there and I can only recommend you to give it a chance it you visit that part of New Zealand. Not only the lodge is beautiful, the view is amazing, the hosts are generous and sensitive to others but I never felt as relaxed as in this property. Don't hesitate to ask David and Susan to cook dinner for you (much better than restaurants in the area). Breakfasts are fantastic and keep you happy till the evening.
We have a couple of suggestions to make this place even better (if possible!): create more space to store cloths and shoes and add a water point (above the fridge or outside, near the lodge door) so that we can clean our shoes or cups without using the bathroom sink which is not intended for that).
We will definitely go back whenever we visit New Zealand.

Wow, what a dream come true to stay at Steve and Suzanne's luxury eco-lodge! It is just a stunning masterpiece of beautiful architecture and design. The panorama deck views across the harbor to the sand dunes, and the night stars, are incredibly scenic. It truly is "off the grid" with solar power and collected rain water -- but you would never know it, as you still enjoy WiFi and all the comforts and ease of the modern world. Steve and Suzanne provide marvelous breakfasts -- but you MUST also enjoy one of their dinner meals -- a sumptuous feast of delectable delicacies delivered to your room, and do also try their tasty mead (fermented honey) from their bee hives. There are a mere 34 steps from the parking spot down to the lodge, but Steve quickly and courteously will carry any heavy bags. The only bad news is we had only booked two nights -- besides sand duning, Kauri forest bathing, hiking, fishing etc, just reading a book and relaxing with a glass of wine on their expansive deck (or two-person tub!) can fill a day. Thanks again Steve and Suzanne for the most memorable experience of our entire 28 day tour of your lovely New Zealand!

What an amazing stay we had at Kokohuia Lodge. Truly worth the drive up exclusively to stay at this stunning property. Steve and Suzanne we cannot thank you enough. Your hospitality was second to none, as was your accommodation. The view, spectacular. There are few moments in life where you can take a moment and appreciate the beauty around you. Kokohuia Lodge offered this and so much more. We had a glorious trip and look back on our time spent there so fondly. We cannot wait until our next stay. Thank you both.

We thoroughly enjoyed our retreat here. The lodge is cozy and perfectly suited for a quiet getaway. The homemade breakfasts are hearty. We mostly interacted with Steve, who was super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. All this, along with the awesome harbor views - would highly recommend!

My wife and I had three wonderful nights here.Accomodation was better than the pictures promoting the lodge.Choice of food for breakfast was great.View was outstanding though the parking place was interesting.Steve and Suzanne perfect hosts with suggestions for places to see and places to eat.Only downside was having to talk about Arsenal.
