Given the Copthorne name, you’d expect a good quality hotel... But that’s as far as the link goes.
They may own the hotel and supply the bedding, bathroom accessories (little bottles of shampoo etc), but you expect a lot more from the room in an alleged four star hotel.
Not a single picture on the wall, minimal and basic decor. Pretty much looked like the motel room that we suspect it once was.
The door lock didn’t work properly and left us feeling insecure. The WiFi signal didn’t reach our room at all.
We had a “family” room, with a very odd set up with the wooden shutters (broken) and the outside/inside (?) table and chairs. Not quite sure what was trying to be achieved.
Having said this, the view from the room over the beach and pier was lovely. And the staff were friendly and helpful.
We didn’t eat in the restaurant but did have a couple of drinks. Prices were in line with hotel pricing.
There isn’t much choice of where to stay in the area, so it’s a fair base if you want to stopover. And if you’re happy to pay 155 NZD room only.
But next time we’d probably change our itinerary to keep driving through.

We were lucky enough to stay in one of the villas. For two people it’s really spacious with an outside decking area, living and bedrooms, walk-in wardrobe and an enormous bathroom with a great freestanding tub and twin showers and washbasins. There is a dividing wall between the seating area and bedroom with a gas fire visible from both sides. The living area had a regular size fridge (unfortunately very noisy and disturbing as it kept cutting in & out all night), coffee machine, kettle etc and we were brought fresh milk in a jug almost as soon as we arrived at the room. The decking area has a hot tub and sun loungers, a small table and chairs and it’s completely private surrounded by 6 foot high fence - there is flowerbed to make it look nice too but because of the fencing to make the decking area private, there is no view. The only disappointment really was breakfast. There was a wedding party one morning which meant breakfast was very busy and the food I was brought from the kitchen was lukewarm and rather greasy. It wasn’t anything to really look forward to and coffee came from an urn. It was a disappointment when compared to the standard of the Villa.

We love the Hokianga and always wanted to stay at the Copthorne so recently we did. The location is stunning and the staff do a great job of making you feel welcome. However the 2 bedroom unit we booked had definitely seen better days and there were a few maintenance issues eventually leading to us being upgraded. It was an experience nevertheless and we certainly enjoyed the view.

We love this hotel and have stayed here often in past years. We came over to Omapere specifically for the spectacular sea views. We are staying at the edge of the property in the chalets which are new and well appointed. Unfortunately there is no sea view and when we arrived were told that we couldn't use the dining room due to a wedding taking place. $440 per night is quite steep for a view of a fence and no access to the dining room until 10pm. I think guests should be told in advance if they can't access the hotel facilities as it is in a fairly remote location. I also think there could be more transparency about the lack of sea views in the chalets. The landscape here is one of the main draw cards for visitors. But I wish we had stayed down the road in Opononi.

This hotel needs some serious maintenance to meet the expectations of the Copthorne reputation. Its a very tired looking place and was a disappointment. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The twin room we booked was adequate but the bathroom was well past its use by date - not acceptable for a Copthorne hotel! We had water everywhere thanks to the age and substandard shower. The worst of all was after looking forward to a pleasant evening meal to find two family groups with sc reaming children and even some jumping around and shouting between the tables, with no intervention by the management to move these groups to an appropriate location for small disruptive guests. Our evening was completely ruined by this.
The one very positive recommendation of the Copthorne was the highly enjoyable ( and quiet) buffet breakfast with a great range of choices as well as cheerful and happy staff.

The location and view was fantastic from the restaurant and deck. We were greeting Hi my name is ?? I will show ewe fellows to your room!!!. Our room very very tired, shower door fell off, could hardly fit in the shower, no dishcloths or dish liquid, no clean towels and we were there for 2 nights. Dinner first night was over an hour late being served. Main meal was spilt down the back of one of our friends back as waiter was going behind him, cups didn't fit on the saucers so slipped everywhere, meals were mixed up, even dessert. Such a real let down to the Copthorne Name. Will certainly not be going back there and this was the general consensuses of our group of 29. Such a shame when it has the ideal setting to make a fabulous place to stay. Wi fi wouldn't work then told by others they charge $10 for it!!

We bought a 3 night deal on GrabOne staying in a luxury villa. The villa had no views but was private. Lovely comfortable bed with a cosy gas fire. Large double shower bathroom. And that is all I can really say that is nice about the place. We arrived at 6pm. The receptionist didn't know if the room was ready so we had to wait at the bar. She finally took us there. We had to use the light on our phone to see where we were going and so she could unlock the door as no sensor lights anywhere. No outdoor lights anywhere. We went back down to dinner which was horrendously expensive. We vowed not to eat there again. The meal was adequate but not worth the money. Breakfast was included in our package. As we finished we were asked to sign a tab. We asked what for? They told us tea and coffee were extra!!! We were amazed and quite horrified. We spoke to the Manager who seemed quite young. He made lots of excuses and couldn't understand our point of view. We have travelled extensively and have never had breakfast at a 4 star hotel where you get charged extra for tea and coffee. The TV didn't work properly in our room. The Sky Movies you had to pay for. The spa was not working properly. They did send people to fix these but they were done only by the time we had to leave. Service in the restaurant was OK but I object to being called ÿouse guys"all the time. There was a lot of noise on the wooden floor of the restaurant from the serving ladies walking which seemed to echo and reverberate spoiling the ambience.

Paid for one of the rooms overlooking the grass lawn and harbour. Our room price was one below the most expensive so was expecting a little more than we got. Beautiful view but that's about where the delight ended. The whole room was shabby and was in a need of refurbishment. The bathroom had mould and the T.V. must have been the cheapest model available from Alli-Express and the channel selection and quality of the picture was poor. The remote even had the battery cover missing and there were a couple of beer bottle caps on our deck. I very rarely complain about accommodation and would have forgiven the run-down aspect but I expected a clean room and bathroom at least for the price we paid. Cleaners or supervisors could do with more pride in their work. Little touches you might expect of a hotel chain like the Copthorne were absent. A couple of extra towels would have been handy instead we only got two. Oh! I nearly forgot. I woke in the middle of the night and jumped out of bed as a cockroach was crawling over my leg in the bed. We did not discover any other bugs but didn't exactly have a restful night.

There was only one good thing going for this place and this was the amazing view and friendly staff!
We stayed as two families in the 2 Bedroom Waterfront Apartments. These were very dated and not clean. The shower rose was tied up with a piece of rubber.. Bathroom had not been well cleaned. Everything was well worn. One of the familys rooms had electric blankets other rooms had none.. No spare pillows or bedding.
Kitchen had no oven dishes, frypan was stuffed and definitely not usable. The oven had no dishes to use had to get from staff kitchen.
There was no mention of room service charge until a big surprise on our bill. We dined as a large group for breakfast - prices where very high for poor food. On of our members had allergies of which they suggested going back to our motel room and providing our own cereal as they were not happy to cook a separate meal. Very disappointing for a hotel we had always looked forward to visiting.
I feel the good ratings for this place would all come from the new accommodation wing which looked really nice, they need to focus on the rest as a upgrade.

This was a beautiful spot to stay, with chairs and table both inside and out to enjoy the view. We stayed one night in a harbour view room (thanks to a great special) after a day trip to visit Tane Mahuta. We enjoyed stepping out our door to walk along the harbour. There is also a variety of walks with spectacular views just a five minute drive away. It is not 5 star, but the room was clean, and had everything we needed. The restaurant was a bit on the high side, I went for a cheaper dish, mushroom risotto, and it was divine.
