This is not your average bed and breakfast with en suite rooms. If that is your order then this is not your place. However if you want a genuine small farm with fresh eggs and vegetables ftom the garden served by two experienced farmers and the lovely Greg in an idyllic location away from it all. A place with a secluded beach, farm trails with views to die for, winding up in a beautiful (shared) bathroom, and the most comfortable bed! Then try this place.

We really like this place. It's at the end of a winding gravel road along the bay opposite Lyttelton. It's a lovely place both for hiking and riding and also just to unwind and relax. The house is really neat with a lovely drawing room with an excellent view out to the ocean outside the bay. Sam and Pete's place was our first stop on a month long vacation in NZ and it was so nice to get rid of the jetlag here before continuing our journey. They are excellent hosts that make you feel really at home instead of merely paying guests. I'd love to return here.

Sam and Pete are excellent hosts. The food they serve is astounding. The stay on their farm gives you a feel for New Zealand that would be hard to match any where else. Right on the ocean you have the choice of frolicking in the waves or walking the trails among the sheep. You will also see a plethora of other wild life, all non-threatening.

We were a couple of friends visiting christchurch for the weekend and decided to stay here on saturday night. The hosts sam and peter welcomed us into their home. We enjoyed an amazing roast dinner and rhubarb crumble dessert something like ive never tasted before. The stay left me feeling inspired and so glad we visited. The bed was so comfortable. The hosts really want you to enjoy your experience here whether that be experiencing life on a working farm or being fasincated by the harbour views and the wildlife. I totally reccomend a stay here.

In 1995 I took my niece and nephews for a farm stay in Brittany. It was a magical weekend that I remember to this very day. When I pulled into Te Pohue farm stay I had a flashback to that holiday. Beautiful grounds with lush plant life set on a beach yet very much a working farm. Sam and Peter are farmers who happen to operate a farm stay. The original house from the 30s has been tastefully restored but is still a farmhouse and provides amazing views out to the sea. The rooms all have views and the hosts really involve you in their day to day activities. Dinner is served family style around a large table with lively discussion and outstanding food cooked by Peter . You can walk in the hills or along the beach, go kayaking or just sit in the garden relaxing. Peter and Sam are happy to tell you and show you what’s involved in running a farm with 900 sheep and 50 beef cattle or you can just veg.
I stayed for two days but wish I had stayed here and commuted into Christchurch. It’s only an hour away and a very easy drive and certainly a nicer place to come home to after a day of sightseeing. I can’t wait to come back

Te Pohue was everything and more than we were expecting.
Firstly, Sam and Pete the hosts we absolutely amazing, they made you feel very at home and so welcome.
The house was in the most beautiful location, the style of the house had an amazing feel about it. The bedrooms overlooked Camp Bay in Lyttelton Harbour. The beds and the pillows were so comfortable. Better than the Hermitage.
The meals that Sam and Pete cooked were so yummy, real farm style cooking. What we really enjoyed was sharing the evening meal with them and other guests.
There are a variety of walking tracks over the property that take you out toward the heads of Lyttelton Harbour. (Which you needed to do to help work up an appetite for dinner.)
It is a very special place. Thanks Sam and Pete.
We are looking forward to coming back for another stay at Te Pohue.

Te Pohue Farm is in an idyllic location above the beach in Camp Bay, at the end of the road east of Diamond Harbour, on the north coast of the Banks Peninsular. The farmhouse has charm and atmosphere, with a wood panelled interior and surrounded by a wonderful subtropical garden and groves of pine trees. Our room overlooked the ocean and we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the surf break. There are spectacular trail walks along the cliffs and around the farm, with horse treks on offer for those who ride.

Sam and Pete are wonderful hosts. They greeted us with gin and tonics at the kitchen table after our long drive from Queenstown, cooked a superb dinner for us both nights of our stay; we ate and chatted together as if we’d known each other for years. They run a working farm and it was great to see the animals, and get insights in to farming life in New Zealand.

The Banks Peninsular is a good location for a rural B and B stay. Te Pohue is only an hour from Christchurch but feels wonderfully remote and other worldly. A scenic drive over the hills brings you to the historic French colonial town of Akaroa with its charming timber houses, set on a beautiful natural harbour. We took a boat tour to see the local dolphins, seals and penguins: the guide was knowledgeable and the wildlife appeared on cue. We even saw an albatross!

We loved our stay at Te Pohue and wished we could have spent more time there. Whether you want some time away from city life or would rather not stay in the still-desolate Christchurch downtown (only slowly being rebuilt after the 2011 earthquake), this farm is a gorgeous and interesting place to stay. Highly recommended.

Just come back from spending two night break here with my partner. Location is superb, overlooking the harbour and there is total peace and quiet . The hosts, Pete and Sam were very hospitable and made us feel very much at home. The bedroom was lovely overlooking the harbour and the lounge very cosy with amazing views. Certainly recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from it all, but still having the convenience of being very close to civilisation
