We stayed for 2 nights, and absolutely loved it. The lodge was beautiful, the views were amazing, the food was top notch, the staff was exceptional, and I especially loved the sustainable/eco-friendly philosophy. Would highly recommend it.

So August will still be winter cold. The roads don't get covered by snow but there might be snow around and you shouldn't have any problems to drive around. You're close to Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo, so you'll have options for activities on both sides. Mt Cook is more outdoors and hikes that will be stunning if it's snowed and they're not difficult and on Lake Tekapo there are some hot springs.
Regarding the helicopter, I can't remember the name of the company but you'll be able to bool directly ringing them or they can assist you at the Lodge. Otherwise, I think if you look for it with google you'll be directed to the web page where you can see the price list. Have fun planning your trip
