2021 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Lakestone Lodge is exclusively positioned on the southern shores of Lake Pukaki with some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. The off-grid eco lodge has been designed to maximise the panoramic views. Every room and bathroom share stunning views northward over Lake Pukaki to the Southern Alps. On calm days New Zealand's highest mountain, Aoraki/Mount Cook, can be seen reflected in the turquoise glacial waters of the lake. In contrast, mountain storms rolling in over the alps, can be viewed from the comfort and warmth of this luxurious lodge. In the evenings, after watching the sun setting over the mountains, guests can enjoy some of the clearest night skies in the world as Lakestone Lodge is located in the heart of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. Lakestone Lodge, centrally located, is an ideal base for exploring Aoraki/Mount Cook and the rest of the Mackenzie District as well as for relaxing and for making use of unlimited photographic opportunities.

Lakestone Lodge is definitely one of the best luxury lodges we have visited in NZ, especially in the South Island! Location, facilities, staff, service, meals were all above our expectations! Congratulation for a very professional hospitality business!

Stayed for one night. Managed to view the Blood moon, the eclipse and the night sky, despite the fog. Thanks to Mikes superb efforts. The dinner and breakfast were excellent and the room with luxury bath and gorgeous views very comfortable.

We stayed here for our anniversary and this place deserves the best review ever. It’s a fabulous location with comfy rooms to stay. But the highlight is ambience, A class service and the luxury touch to each and every part of stay. The gourmet dinner is well worth and portion sizes are also pretty good. This is a real NZ experience and should not be missed when visiting McKenzie country.

We did the ultimate package which included 2x dinners, breakfasts, massages, use of bike and a picnic kunch and night sky experience . The accommodation was very warm even though it was very cold outside. The view across the lake to Mt Cook was breathtaking. The food was beautiful and locally sourced. We were lucky to have a clear night for our night sky experience. The massages were bkiss especially after waliking the Hooker Valley. Thank you Anna

We had booked one night on our way to Mt Cook. The staff were warm and friendly, the owner was lovely and makes the effort to come and speak with you. The rooms are beautiful with great views. There are only two things that stopped me from giving it 5/5 and they are.....the price....I was expecting more for the price, especially as it sits above the road so when you sit outside on your patio or lay in bed you hear traffic. For that price I thought it would be away from everything.

Thank you for taking time to write a review Islandretreat. We would ideally love to be away from the road but unfortunately this was the only site available to us with these views! We have taken the time to visually block the view of the road with private patios in the front of the rooms and have put double glazing in to minimise any road noise inside the rooms and are fortunate that there is not much traffic during the night.
