A beautiful place in otherwise so-so Capurgana. This is such a gem! The owners are lovely, very helpful, and Alicia cooks amazing Italian food :)
The cabanas are wonderfully decorated, you sleep really well, and the bathroom with the open backyard was my favorite place :) The garden is nice to relax, and the animals that run around add to the charm.
We'd definitely come again to stay here! Thank you Marco and Alicia for everything.

We are so happy we chose el Tucan and had the opportunity to meet Marco & Alicia to enjoy their wonderful hospitality.

Their house is an open purpose-built pension style hotel. It is a spotless and comfortable place to rest in Capurgana. It is also has the best meals you can find in town for a very reasonable price -- and to top it off, you have Marco and Alicia's delightful company.

We never had any worries about mosquitoes and enjoyed lazy afternoons after diving or hiking reading in the hammocks. It was a splendid 5 days away from it all -- especially the noise of motorcycles and traffic.

The hotel also has very friendly dogs (Phoebe and Kika) and a demure cat named Pepita.

The most highly recommended place to stay of our 1 month trip to Colombia.

I can't speak highly enough of Cabana El Tucan in Capargana. I probably had the most relaxing and interesting 4 days of my 4 months in Colombia staying there in September.

The rooms were large and very clean and we really appreciated the comfort for a few days. This was a big plus point for us after staying in a lot of wilder cabana type places in Colombia. Alicia and Marco really looked after us during our stay - they are lovely people who will chat to you all day if you want or leave you in peace when you want some down time.

There is plenty of nature to see in Carpagana and a week will go quickly. The area is full of different walks through the jungle which lead to different beaches. The trails are all very secure and easily walked - with plenty of wildlife to entertain. Expect to see monkeys + all kinds of birds and reptiles. If you go snorkling or diving, there are nearby reefs full of sea life.

Of course we also spent lots of time chilling in the hammock and relaxing in the beautiful gardens of the hotel.

The place is a 10 minute walk from the pier on the edge of town meaning you go to sleep to the sounds of the jungle and not nearby bars. On arrival we were met with a horse and cart to take our heavy bags.

Above all though, the food was amazing. I had been growing a little tired of Colombian food and really appreciated a few nights of comfort food. Alicia lived in Italy for a long time and brings some Italian goodness to Colombia.

Cabana Toucan is a great refuge for adventurers who would like comfortable accommodations, wonderful food and excellent service. Marco and Alicia are the most gracious hosts. Cabana Toucan is located about a 10 minute walk from town and is only 100 m from the beach. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. Marco makes "the best pasta in the world", according to my 9 year old daughter. I would highly recommend this B&B.

A 15 min walk along the beach from the village you will find this peaceful place hosted by Alicia and Marco. You can also go via the village on the streets. The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens and you will be able to see all kinds of animals while having breakfast or dinner. I would definitely recommend to take the package with dinner, as the hosts are great chefs and you will for sure not get a better food in the village. Also the rooms are European basic standard and very clean. This was for sure the highlight of my 5 week stay in Colombia!

Very relaxing, welcoming and clean hotel, located not far from Capurgana, where you can still walk there in the evening for a beer by following the local beach. The room was amazingly spacious and cleaned every day with a balcony with view on the garden and two ammoks to chill out and contemplate the beauty of the nature. We were sleeping with the sound of the sea as background and wake up in the morning with the music of the forest sorrounding the place. Nice breakfast with an amazing homemade mango jam. Marco and Alicia are two charming hosts that will make you feel at home and give you any information you need.

Tucked into a jungle grove with a flowering garden, a short walk from the town of Capurgana and to other local sights to see, is the inviting and friendly El Cabaña Tucan. Marco and Alicia are among the most personable and accommodating hosts one could hope to meet. Marco greets you at the dock and arranges for a horse cart to get you and your gear to the Tucan (there are no cars in Capurgana, but plenty of small motorcycles in town).

A bright, comfortably airy room with private bath on the second floor awaits you, beds include mosquito netting adding a romantic atmosphere. It's wonderfully peaceful here and you're sure to have a good nights sleep. Arrange for a package including breakfast and dinner; it is well worth it. Breakfast and dinner are served in the open air dining room at one of several tables for two.

Alicia is well known for her fabulous meals from which you'll never go away hungry. The hearty breakfast includes fresh sliced fruit (we enjoyed juicy ripe mango) and a basket of fresh bread. Don't miss the fresh squeezed juice from currently available local fruits. If you are from a more temperate climate you may have never tasted (or heard of) carambola, tomate de arbol, or guanabana (soursop-- this reviewers favorite); all are delicious.

After breakfast Marco will often suggest an outing; a hike into the jungle to the El Cielo waterfall, or along the coast to the freshwater pools at Coquerito. There are a number of interesting things to occupy your visit here and Marco offers excellent directions (if you speak some Spanish or Italian, you'll find it helpful during your stay). Or, just turn left when exiting the garden gate; a 5 minute walk takes you to a bit of private beach at the ocean's edge.

In the evening, find yourself richly rewarded for your days adventures with one of Alicia's varied and healthy meals. In a weeks time the dinners never repeated. We enjoyed fresh grilled fish (caught earlier that day by Marco), lentils and rice with sausages, an amazingly delicate-crusted pizza, homemade pastas, savory soups and more.

Cabaña Tucan is a lovely place to spend a few days or more. Highly recommended.

Had the perfect stay at El Tucan! It really has just the right mix of everything! The room was specious and super clean and especially appreciated the attention to detail – from the insect nets at the bottom of the doors to the shelves in the bathroom, just to mention a couple.

The place has a jungle feel (the jungle is in fact just around the corner and the beautiful garden has a wild look to it) but with all the comforts you could possibly need. Alicia and Marco are lovely and made us feel so welcome, it was like a home away from home! The food was delicious, as you would expect after seeing how much love and care goes into the cooking.

Location was perfect – outside of the village, but only a 10 minute walk away along the beach. There is plenty to see and do in the area (most activities involving stunning nature) and we were given lots of information and help with getting to see them.

Only problem was our stay wasn’t long enough!

Initially we booked 3 nights at the Cabaña Tucan, but ended up to stay 5 nights, because we just loved it so much. The house is located a bit outside of the little village, but you can easily reach it within 10 minutes of walking, and it is super quiet and has a wonderful garden, where monkeys and iguanas are frequent visitors. The beach is really close (pebble beach) and you can go snorkeling there. Marco and Alicia were super welcoming and gave us a lot of tips about the hikes and boat trips we could do in the area. Marco even accompanied us along the way to one of the hikes to make sure we find the way. Also you need to have dinner at their place! Alicia cooks wonderful italian meals and Marco's Pizza is just delicious. We stayed in their little cabaña in their garden and really loved it! Thanks Alicia and Marco for making our stay perfect :) Michi and Maria

This is the best accommodation I've ever experienced. The property is close to the beach and away from the noise of the town. Iguanas, butterflies, hummingbirds, geckos, and countless birds came by to enjoy the wealth of plants surrounding the cabanas. The room was spacious, well-equipped, and very clean. The owners made me feel welcome by helping me practice Spanish, pointing me towards the attractions in the area, making me special meals when I didn't feel well, and helping me arrange onward travel. I can't imagine a more relaxing place to spend a few days. If I were you, I would try to stretch those few days into a few weeks and really get to know the area. Have fun!
