Take an enchanting boat ride through Vembanad Lake to reach Coconut Lagoon, a backwater destination that is nestled amidst canals, paddy fields and lush natural life. Reflecting Kuttanad’s vibrant culture, this resort has old Kerala homes constructed in the centuries-old ‘tharavadu’ style, transplanted from the past and preserved to perfection. The lake is home to a plethora of natural life, with rare species of plants, butterflies, birds and sea creatures, which can all be discovered from Coconut Lagoon with the help of the resident naturalists. The property contains three restaurants – Vembanad Grill, where you can savour the fresh catch of the day, open-air dining at Aymanam Restaurant and multi-cuisine delicacies at the traditionally constructed Ettukettu restaurant. Watch our chefs prepare your meal with fresh ingredients from the organic farm, at a cooking demonstration. Accommodation with serene water-views are available, with swimming pools and hammocks. The rooms also come with Wi-fi, tea/coffee makers and complimentary breakfast. Rejuvenate yourself with a number of personalized treatments at the Ayurveda Centre. Explore the unique bio-diversity of Vembanad Lake on guided nature walks, go bird-watching or take a stroll at the butterfly garden. Glimpse the backwaters at its best on a canoe ride, and delve into Kerala’s lively culture with performances of art forms such as ‘Kalaripayattu’ and ‘Mohiniyattam’.

We stayed in the "Mansion" rooms, with traditional Kerala style wooden doors, and wooden upper deck. Very spacious, and extremely comfortable, it is an experience to cherish.
The place is extremely well maintained, including the backwater streams that flow into and around the area inside the resort.
The icing on the cake is the courtousness of every staff memeber we met. They are open to our feedback, and catered to each of our requests such as serving the very low spice level that we requested.
We would like to sepcially thank Ms. Asha and Mr. Nitin at the restaurant. They were quick to understand our needs and kept things ready for us every time we went to dine.

We have travelled with CGH Earth to 3 of their accommodation offerings in Kerala. The standard of service comes highly recommended, we have had great guides and amazing food, even my young girls of 8 & 10 years cannot get over the beautiful grilled sea bass. We love their attention to detail and the property itself is stunning, we had a private pool villa which opens out to a small lagoon, very relaxing and exceptional. Only unfortunate thing was that our little one had a few mosquito bites on her face (after the first night) however housekeeping gave us 2/3 more coils and it was resolved by the next day. We love it and will def come back and highly recommend, from a tranquility, location and service perspective.

We had a great time at the Coconut Lagoon resort in August end. We were a bit worried about safety given the whole pandemic situation but really needed a break from the daily routine & hence decided to go ahead with it. The entire process from booking on phone to checkout was as seamless & enjoyable as it gets. We were welcomed by the resort boat from the car parking where the driver asked us to sanitise our hands before entering. What followed was an extremely beautiful & mesmerising 15 minute boat ride which we couldn't get enough of. We were received at the reception by the very friendly staff & our luggage was fumigated. Seeing the full staff in masks, sanitisers placed all over the property & social distancing being followed strictly, all our worries were gone.
We had booked for a heritage bungalow for first night & private pool villa for second night & were pleasantly surprised to get an upgrade to pool villa for first night too. The villa was very spacious & plush with a front porch (amazing sunsets), living space, bedroom, huge washroom, pool area & a balcony at the back (beautiful sunrises). Enjoyed every second spent in the pool, chilling in the porch & a goodnight sleep in the comfortable bed.
There is a complementary sunset cruise in the Vembanad lake included with the stay & it was spectacular..
The food is great by all means.. though the menu is limited as they are working with limited staff, we thoroughly enjoyed each & every meal there.. all vegetarian, sea food & non-veg items were equally tasty!!
To summarise, an amazing stay with beautiful views, great food, very friendly & courteous staff, a much needed getaway that we loved & enjoyed every second of!!.. Must Stay in Kumarakom..

Kumarakom lake resort is like a second home with abundance of love and warmth to offer. This was my second visit in 2 years. My husband and I just love this place. It’s so accessible from the Kochi airport. An hour and a half drive from Kochi airport. Their welcome is so unique in the boat through the private canals and the entire staff gathered around the lobby with the flute playing in the background.
The manager upgraded us to their next category of room, the pool villa and it was just fabulous. The back balcony was overlooking the lotus garden and the front veranda overlooking the lake with those hundreds of house boats passing by through the day. It’s such a wonderful place to be in.
The private pool is lovely and finely kept with the filtration plant for each individual pool running all day long. The living room, bedroom and the bathrooms are all renovated after the floods last year and are very comfortable.
The bird watching session early in the morning is amazing for bird lovers and also the property tour at 10am. They show you around the property and they are very proud of their various in house filtration and biogas plants. Very efficiently run luxurious eco property. Their yoga sessions are great at a unique setting in the mornings. The massage was awesome and relaxing with a beautiful view.
On our way to our next stay at the Taj Malabar Kochi, we took the speed boat from Coconut Lagoon arranged by Taj Malabar. And we were there from door to door in about 50 min. It’s an experience not to be missed, for those adventure lovers.
We will definitely come back sooner than later..

Guest arrive at this unique hotel by boat. The welcome approaching reception is stunning - live music and reception staff lined up to greet you!
The bedrooms are detached lodges in keeping with the environment, very comfortably furnished and with an absence of TV. Bathrooms are open air and extremely well appointed. The resort exudes peace and quiet. The quality of the food available in the restaurants is very good.
Highly recommended!

The numerous canals that crisscross the grounds are beautiful for strolling and peaceful relaxation. The sunset cruise was fun with a flutist to add to the charm. The rooms have a spacious outdoor shower which made the entire cabin feel luxurious and naturalistic.

We had planned a quick getaway amidst all the COVID - 19 scenario lurking around the time of Onam. From the get go what really impressed us was the personal touch the staff made. From the time the booking was made, they kept in touch with calls and whatsapp to finalise the formalities which were to be done in view of the Covid - 19 regulations. The drive to the resort was pleasant and we were greeted by a rustic setting and the front desk Mr.Tijo who very soon put us at ease and very quickly got the formalities over quickly.

The rooms themselves were on the banks in the Vembanad looking across to the bird sanctuary. It was a mesmerising sight especially in the early morning. The room has the traditional old school Kerala style with touches of the modern amenities needed. Every thing which was needed for the stay was provided.

The vast area of the green plants and the meandering small waterways in between the villas really give a feel good factor and some time and location and the serenity to just unwind. The mornings can be spent walking across the grounds and seeing some otters walk around.

I'm sure there would be a multitude of activities if it were not fit the present pandemic scenario. But even without those it was a perfect getaway to just unwind.

We even had a quick chat with Mr.Samboo who gave us an insight into the way the pandemic has changed the tourism industry.

The cruise on the evening by Mr.Sunil was good cause he took time to point out locations on the lake and to give us a view of the sunset which was a sight to behold.

The kitchen and the restaurant Mr.Alby, prepared sumptuous dishes for our dinner which was really up to the mark. The breakfast of course was a fixed menu affair which was really a good way to start your day.

Even more than the setting or the ambience it was the, staff from the reception to the kitchen to the boatman always were smiling with a wish which really makes you feel good. All in all a really perfect place to come and stay in. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and just soak yourself in serenity and nature. Would love to visit again.. Keep up the good work

Even for a middle class person like me felt like a place worth for each penny you spend for. From the car parking lot located at a different place, resort's boat will come to pick us to get us to the resort. It's located at a breathtaking location of Kumarakom backwaters where you can see a lot of houseboats and beautiful sunset. Resort itself has got lot of places and activities to explore. They served a lot varities of food and was very delicious. Staff behaviour was very professional as well as friendly and all the services they provided was top notch. Highly recommended for every nature and food lovers who wants to use the time very efficiently.

Visited the resort on 9th September 2020. Had parked our car at the resort parking area near Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. From there we were taken to the resort in a motor boat. This boat trip offered some memorable views. The check-in was prompt. Though the check-in time was 2pm we were allowed an easly check-in by 10.30 am. Had booked heritage bunglow but was given a free upgrade to Heritage mansion. The entire building was made of wood. It resembles the traditional 'Tharavadu'. and makes you feel really special. The open to sky bathroom is another interesting area. The toiletries were of excellent quality.
Coming to the premises, each and every area is covered by green grass. There a lots of coconut trees all around the resort. There are other trees and plants and names of all these trees are labelled with a small placard which is indeed a learning experience. There is also a beautiful butterfly garden.
The food was excellent. Chef Aneesh made us delicious Fish biriyani. He even cared to share it's recipe too.

The most important thing I must mention is that the entire resort is a plastic free zone. They use envelope and carry bags which are made of newspapers. Toiletries are provided in terracotta pots. Drinking water is provided in glass bottles and they have a bottling plant inside the premises. It's indeed a great message CGH earth is sending out to the world. Hats off!!.

I must also mention the names of the courteous staff. Ms.Sony from the reception. Vishnu from guest relations, Ms Asha, Mr Elby , Mr Ajish and Mr Dibin from the restaurant. I would also like to thank Mr Sambhoo the resort manager for making our holiday special.

Looking forward to exploring another CGH property soon.

If you wish you may like to stop at the Vaikom Shiva temple - known from the days of veteran leader Periyar during his campaign against untouchabilty. There are no tea estates on the route to Kochi from CL - typically you'd find them near the ghat segment (like Munnar). Kottayam is also known for its Bhagawathy temples. However, if a pilgrimage is not on your agenda, a suggestion if you have time is to visit the sights at Kochi itself. Please note that you must give yourself around 3 to 3.5 hours (since there are traffic snarls) to get from CL to Kochi airport. So if you want to wander about then you must really plan what you want to see, how far afield you want to go and the time you need to do all of it before reaching the airport on time. Good Luck and safe travels.
