Absolutely wonderful time - although very wet at night and we didn't get to see the little brown kiwis we still believe it was a worthwhile trip. Food was plentiful - would say that I found the food was better during my last daytime trip but it was more than adequate. The host was incredible as were the Support staff-...

Kapiti Island is an amazing place to visit and staying overnight just adds to the experience. The birdlife is prolific and seeing 3 Kiwi in the wild on our Kiwi spotting night tour was a highlight! I stayed in one of the cabin/bunkrooms (sleeps 4) and was lucky they weren't full so had the cabin to myself. After seeing the...

This is an excellent way to explore more of New Zealand's wonderful bush. We learned heaps from Janine our guide and appreciated the amount of commitment that has gone into restoring the island to its former beauty. We saw lots of birds and had wonderful interactions with the New Zealnd Robins. We also enjoyed the Weka with chicks. Lunch was...

We spent the nigth on Kapiti well looked after by the local family who are custodians of a small part of the island and supporters of the work the Dept of Conservation does there. The whole trip was well organised form the boat ride to and from to island to the family style shared meals in the lodge. The medium...

From start to finish the hospitality was exceptional - right from registering before getting on the boat up to stepping ashore at the end of our visit. My husband had a significant disability and the staff coped wonderfully, cheerfully and sensitively. Our cabin was absolutely charming and rustic with a lovely resiny wood smell. The pillows, well where do you...

Learn the history of the island and learn about all the birds there, which there are lots, and all a close range. Take your camera and rustle free clothes for the best sightings of the little brown kiwis on the night tour. Walk around the island beaches or climb the hill for a mega views of Kapiti or out across...

My husband and I spent the weekend on Kapiti Island, some thing we've always wanted to do. Our first day spent on the Nature reserve was incredible, quite overwhelming with so much bird song and activity. The views from the summit were absolutely amazing too! We then took the ferry around to the Lodge where we were greeted by our...

An overnight stay on Kapiti Island has been one of our ambitions for quite a while, so we decided to treat ourselves to this on a recent trip to New Zealand. Our visit to Kapiti had to dove-tail with another activity we were planning nearby, so quite a bit of planning had to be undertaken to book accommodation for the...

Kapiti is an island free from mammals (and marsupials) so the native birds can flourish. The Takahe was thought to be extinct, but the last few found on the island a few years ago have now grown to over 300 individuals. Other rare birds are plentiful too, including the nocturnal Kiwi. A stay on the island is very special. The...
