In response to the bad review left previously, Michael himself had suffered a minor stroke about that time (2008), hence his probably seeming a bit off and at our time during staying, when we moved into our own rental property, they could not have done more for us if they had tried. Home fresh baked bread daily, cooked breakfasts, in fact, even got invited to a family BBQ there. We stayed there twice, (Sept 2007) for two weeks and (Dec 2007) for two weeks before moving into our own place. It's not near the city centre but minutes walk from raumati beach (village type place) and 20 mins from paraparaumu.

We stayed at Rosetta for 1 night in Nov 08 for a peaceful break from the bustle of downtown Wellington, and apart from the "grizzly" comments by EddieBear (obviously a bear with a sore head) I would concur with the other glowing reviews. Our host Lorraine couldn't do enough for us, was very pleasant company and cooks a lovely breakfast. We stayed in the Garden Suite which was almost as big as our flat with a large lounge area with bathroom and two bedrooms off it. Both beds were very comfortable and we slept soundly. Raumati is lovely and quiet with a great beach 1 minute away, offering beautiful views especially at sunset, plus there are a few local restaurants that match most restaurants in Wellington for quality - I particularly recommend the steak mignon at Busy Bees. If you're looking for a Bed & Breakfast with a homely touch then I would certainly recommend it - excellent value for money. And if you're a bear with lofty expectations and limited funds I suggest you adjust one or the other ...

As we do with most of our B&B bookings we selected By the Sea Rosetta's because of all the rave reviews in trip advisor. By all accounts this B&B should have been a 4 or 5 star. At best I would rate it average. The price was average, the room upstairs was small with shared bathroom down the hall. A nice clean home but in our opinion mostly average. The following is what brought our rating lower than average: We arrived at 1:15 pm and were "greeted" by Michael with a puzzled look as if we were selling something at the door. We introduced ourselves and apologized if we had arrived a little early. Michael looked at his watch, indicated that yes we were early but the room was ready. Without introducing himself we were shown our room and the shared bathroom. He indicated that we should fill out breakfast menu and to indicate what time we would like breakfast. We were told that early would not be a problem as they had served others as early as 5:30 am. There was no other indication of what other parts of the house were available to us so we went out for lunch and trip to the beach. We returned around the dinner hour. At this time they indicated that the deck and TV room was available to guests. We had indicated on our breakfast card we would like breakfast 2 hours before the ferry departure time. This would allow us to arrive 1 hour before departure and leave room for a fairly long drive and any contingencies like making a wrong turn, road work etc. They said that we would only need to leave 1 hour before the ferry departure as it was only 30 minutes or so by car. and that by boarding the ferry closer to departure time we would be first off (also not a fact). Against our better judgment we quickly ate breakfast and left about 1 hr and 15 minutes before the ferry departure. After an anxious drive which was well over 30 minutes we arrived with just 15 minutes to spare. All other cars had already boarded. At breakfast I indicated that my order was incorrect. Michael told me that the order was exactly as I had indicated on the form. When he returned to the kitchen and noticed his mistake he just returned with the proper order and said nothing. Other than that breakfast was very good. I did follow up a bit with the details of this and another property that we stayed at. One of the other properties that we stayed at also had about 20 user reviews and turned out to be just wonderful. For this property almost all the comments came from users that have reviewed more than once and in more than one country. One the other hand most of Rosetta's 20 or so reviews are single entry comments. That is not to say that they are not valid but I find that if you compare the users who have mulitiple entries it is easier to see how they rate properties. In the future I think that I will take more care looking for comments that come from users who have posted more than once. Hopefully the next report on By the Sea Rosetta's will be from a seasoned user. And hopefully it will show a positive report. Maybe they were just having a bad day....we all do.

My husband and I were travelling down through the North Island and thought we'd like to spend sometime on the Kapiti Coast, walking the sandy beach and feeling the wind through our hair. We contacted Rosetta House for accommodation and were thrilled with the lovely airy room provided. Michael and Lorraine, our hosts, were warm and welcoming and made sure we were comfortable, providing a "cuppa" to refresh us on arrival. They were able to direct us to places of interest and restaurants for an evening meal, however we plumped for fresh fish and chips on the beach down the road. Breakfast was a happy social event, good food, warm and friendly hosts prepared to spend time with us and interested in what we were doing. Thank you Michael and Lorraine, it was a pleasure staying with you.

Lorraine & Mike were fantastic hosts! We hadn't stayed @ a B&B before, so didn't know what to expect. After a long drive from Auckland we were made to feel at home straight away by Lorraine & Mike. They provided a safe and family atmosphere. We had a very busy time visiting friends & family while in Kapiti. Lorraine & Mike looked after us, feed us well with the minimum of fuss which enabled us to get on and do things. They were great conversationists and had a good sense of humour. They even let us park our car in their garage for our 2 night stay! We really enjoyed staying with Lorraine and Mike and have already recommended Rosetta House to friends and would stay there again ourselves.

We have spent a very comfortable few days at Rosetta House. We were made very welcome and our host was a fund of information about the area. Thanks to his advice, we saw a delightful production of "The King & I" at Southward Museum. We would not have heard of this otherwise. Michael also directed us to the Staglands Wildlife Reserve, through some beautiful NZ countryside, off the beaten track. He was also able to advise us regarding local cafes, etc. The accommodation at Rosetta House is very comfortable, we slept peacefully and well, and we were able to watch the Rugby World Cup on TV in the snug den upstairs. Raumati's local beaches look good, although we weren't able to visit during the summer unfortunately, and it is close to the railway giving access to Wellington and all that offers. Altogether, a lovely break! PS For train enthusiasts, the engine design and concept for the mountain train at Featherston (sadly, no longer running) is unique and one not to be missed.

We arrived in New Zealand mid afternoon on a July Friday. We rented a car and headed north towards the Kapiti Coast. We had never been to New Zealand before & had little idea of where we were going. We had no accommodation booked, it was dark & we were lost in an unknown town … we turned a corner…..and there it was …. Rosetta Bed & Breakfast We pulled in, and, with fingers crossed, knocked on the door …. “Yes, we have room.” That was when we met Michael & Lorraine, who gave us a warm welcome and an even warmer bed. We had a luggage hiccup at the airport, which, to our surprise, they sorted out for us. They gave us lots of hints and maps on what to see & do …. Local Knowledge is always a big help. We did a Bird Walk Tour on the Waikanae Estuary which was very enjoyable we would never have found out about on our own. We ended up staying two wonderful nights, with each day starting with the biggest breakfast, which included homemade jam & home baked bread. We left for our “unplanned adventure” of the North Island, hoping everywhere else would be as welcoming. Some places came close, but no cigar. Before tackling the South Island, we decided we needed some pampering & “R&R”, and decided to go back for the last three nights at Rosetta House.. The second stay was even better ….. It was like coming home to old friends. One night we went with Lorraine & Michael to a Local Amateur Production of “Les Miserable”. We had only ever seen it once before, as a Professional Production in Sydney. This production was so much more enjoyable, with the cast putting there heart and soul into every scene. We were humming the tunes & singing the songs for many days after. We can highly recommend the B&B as a warm place to be pampered & fussed over, with the best breakfasts, comfortable beds & plenty of places close by, to see or visit.

We stayed at Rosetta for three nights in April this year (2007). It was one of many B&B's we enjoyed throughout New Zealand and one I would highly recommend. Nothing was too much trouble, Michael and Lorraine arranged ongoing transport and provided helpful information prior to our visit. Barney (dog) and Jess (cat) made our stay complete. Our room was beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. The breakfast table was beautifully set and the abundant breakfast delicious. We were using public transport throughout our tour and found Rosetta very conveniently located, being on the main bus route and a comfortable, scenic, coastal train ride to Wellington. It was good to have this convenience out of the bustle of thecity, there is a lovely beach close by and a good choice of local eateries. We can highly recommend the local Indian Restaurant. Rosetta provides luxury at a reasonable rate, we are looking forward to a return stay.

We spent 3 nights in the garden suite at Rosetta House in March 2007 -- Michael and Lorraine are wonderful hosts. The bedroom, bath and lounge were spotless and comfy; the breakfast was hearty and yummy. Michael booked our tour to Kapiti Island ( a must see for bird lovers) and directed us to local restaurants within walking distance. And the evening that there was a downpour while we were at dinner, Michael showed up at the restaurant witi an umbrella for us!

Imagine lying in lovely soft sparkling clean sheets being lulled to sleep by the sound of the sea... well that's what we have enjoyed at our two night stay at Rosetta House bed and breakfast. We were sick of city life but didn't want to wander too far off track and friends who had stopped here recommended we try Rosetta House... - this place has it all - sunshine, a lovely garden, great restaurants within a couple of minutes walk (well that's where we went), although our hosts offered to drive us further afield - we were more than happy with the stroll around the corner to the magnificent beach and the Waterfront restaurant where we enjoyed a great steak whilst watching the sun go down on the sea and sand (great photographs - we took heaps) - a brilliant stopover, and hosts who bent over backwards to ensure our stay was perfection. Recommend this spot. Near enough to all attractions but with a country fresh air feel... Michael and Lorraine you are tops - super fun and yet allowing us to relax and enjoy what their B & B offers. We came away feeling totally refreshed, and oh..... those breakfasts!! thanks again. Also Southwards Car Museum is well worth a look....PS the tuis are far nicer to wake up to than crows!..
