This is a gorgeous hotel situated at the very end of New Zealand's state highway network overlooking the Southern Ocean and Foveaux Strait. Rooms were charming, well-decorated and comfortable with luxurious bed, fixtures and fittings. The bathrooms are compact and adequate with excellent power showers. The views across the sea, which even though the skies were grey, cloudy and wet when I was there, were magnificent.

There are a lot of walks to do around Bluff but due to the weather I didn't end up doing any of them, except into the town itself. I was quite content just to sit in my room and watch the weather fronts unfolding on the far horizon, small fishing boats navigating stormy seas.

The availability of decent restaurants and cafes in Bluff is extremely limited, although not nearly as bad as Stewart Island. Lands End does have the Oyster Cove Restaurant attached to it. While this restaurant is in a superb location the food is fairly basic; mostly deep fried, very few fresh vegetables, small salads and frozen chips out of a packet. However, it was okay on my first night and at least it was half the price of what I had paid for similar on Stewart Island. On the second night I walked into Bluff town and had dinner at Stella's Cafe and Chinese Takeaway. Even though the food at Stella's was heavily modified to cater for majority general preferences in the New Zealand market, I had a reasonable sweet and sour blue cod (again unfortunately the blue cod was deep fried). I really like Asian food and had been craving it during my eight days on Stewart Island and Stella's went some way to meeting that. If the Owner's of Oyster Cove (who I think also own Lands End) improved their menu, or maybe turned it into an Asian Restaurant, I'm sure it would be much better.

The tariff at Lands End included a basic continental and cooked breakfast (mainly eggs). The owners and staff were delightful in their hospitality and I would definitely return to stay here again.

Overall, a pretty good inn, not luxurious but clean and quiet. We stayed here prior to catching a morning ferry to Stewart Island. Bathrooms are small but there was plenty of hot water and pressure. Breakfast is eggs, toast, and yogurt/fruit/granola. The restaurant next door (run by the same folks) is really delicious.

The hotel is literally at the end of the road where the South Island meets the great southern ocean. It’s a boutique hotel that is very welcoming and well presented. The rooms are small, but quite adequate and comfortable. It’s the little things that make the difference, from the selection of loose leaf teas and a pod coffee machine that makes a decent hot cup, to the bath robes and comfortable bed. The complimentary light breakfast was adequate and included eggs cooked to order and good coffee. Overall, well worth a visit for the view, the comfort, and the welcoming and attentive service.

For $277 a night our room shouldn’t have 2 x spiders plus webs, a broken toilet seat and holes in the shower wall where a shelf used to be. This hotel badly needs some TLC and staff that speak English enough to communicate. Excellent location but not much else.

Rather a weird experience! It is as difficult to communicate effectively with the hosts due to the language.
It is as clear from reading previous reviews that there had been efforts to address issues but many things were not up to scratch in my opinion. The outside and doorways really needed sweeping, Breakfast of eggs, cereal and toast was okay but our orders were wrong. I think as t convinced that the decorative pillow cases and bed spreads were clean.
Our room had a view over an untidy service area and the blind was tangled.
On checking our the person we approached on reception with our key just said, “Sweet”
All very odd.

Great location and not oversized. Spartan breakfast included and makes sense in this place. In the evenings, you can also eat at Oyster Cove next door. There is also enough parking and the only place further south in NZ is Stewart Island

Lovely cosy and comfortable hotel overlooking the wild southern ocean. We stayed with our two kids in the two room suite. Plenty of room and comfortable. It was the middle of the week in the winter, so the restaurant next door was only open for lunch. Luckily, there's a few fish and chip shops down the road serving beautiful fresh fish and chips. the staff were very friendly and helpful.

After spending a few days on Stewart Island and coming back on the late ferry we decided to stay in Bluff at Lands End Hotel. What a lovely welcome we received from Lynda. Our daughter and her two young sons had turned up as a surprise but having three extras appear was no problem for Lynda and she managed to get all of us in for a dinner booking at the adjoining restaurant.

Although on the smaller size room wise it was very well appointed with top quality fittings, linen and a super comfortable bed.

Breakfast was included with our room rate and to be honest it was one of the best we have had. The muesli and fresh fruit was really appreciated as was the service. You couldn’t ask for more helpful friendly hosts. Well done Team.

As mentioned we had dinner at the restaurant and overall the service and food was of a high standard. The only suggestion I could give would be just take the salmon off the grill 30 seconds earlier.

We would certainly recommend the hotel and restaurant if you are staying in Bluff. Old world charm with super friendly service.

This hotel is in a fantastic location and our room had wonderful views. The bed was comfortable and the shower was really good. That is where the glowing review stops.
Check in was a bit odd with a reception area full of laundry. The lady at check in was friendly enough but seemed inexperienced.
They obviously used to serve breakfast in the lovely front room but now this room doesn’t appear to be used and you go next door for breakfast ( review already posted for that as well). I think it would be so much nicer to use this space.
The doors in this place slam when people come and go and the walls are pretty thin so that isn’t great. Housekeeping didn’t replace our towels even though we purposely left them on the floor and seemed put out when we asked for new ones. We try most of the time to reuse but sometimes you can’t.
This place needs better management. So much potential and over priced for what they are currently offering.

Fantastic little property in Bluff looking out over the Stait. Small boutique hotel (about 6 rooms?), esch with a view of the ocean. Rooms are on the smaller sized and best suited to couples, although there is a family unit. Our room was very comfortable and included breakfast (cereal, toast with eggs). Ensuite bathrooms were small/tight but clean adequate.

Note: food options are limited and there is no kitchenette, so eat in Invercargill or book/call the few restaurant options to make sure they are open.

Only criticism was that although very friendly, the host and staff struggled with English and could be difficult to understand.
