Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I used to come to the Opal Hot Springs way back in the late 70's.
Then it was one of the best destinations around.
Today, it's welcoming management and staff along with the friendly locals, still make it a good destination.
The countries economic situation must be having an effect on how much money is available to be spent here, it is crying out for modernisation and upgrading of the pool complex.
Nothing beats making friends in a small cosy camp/motel situation and this weeknd was no exception, for that alone we will be coming back.
Thanks guys for a quiet nights sleep after a good soak in a safe and well loved establishment.

Called in for a one night stay, was the draw of a hot pool that brought us here. The Park seems to be in need of a little TLC. It has so much potential especially the pool area which with a bit of attention could be a real gem of a facility.

We stayed overnight in our RV. The staff were very friendly, and since it was off-season they found a nice quiet spot for us.
The poll was closed, but the two hot pools were open. However, they weren't very hot, and they're rather shallow. It was fun for the kids, but nothing to write home about.
Nice and close to the Wairere Falls.

this is an old school-style holiday park with a great vibe. From the super-friendly and helpful hosts through to the fastidiously clean and organised facilities with generous extras such as detergent and oven gloves in the kitchen, herbs to pick for cooking, and the wonderful pool area. We used the hot pools twice a day. It is straight up honest and unpretentious, and I'm very happy we found it.

The kitchen cabins are tiny and the bed was one of the worst I have ever slept on, there were broken springs in our mattress! You have to pay for Wi-Fi, it costs $5 just to use the bbq and there are no tv's in the cabins. This place is in serious need of an upgrade, the only thing going for it were the hot pools

Rustic, old school charm. great place to relax. We often stay here on our travels, sometimes just to refresh as we travel through, and sometimes just a few days relaxing. My wife stayed here when she was a kid and facilities haven't changed much since then, but are clean and tidy. The staff are friendly and helpful. A bonus is the lower cost to stay. We have used the cabins on occasion and also stayed there with the caravan on powered sites.

I am no clean freak by any means and don’t often write reviews but in this instance I wish I had read an honest one before booking. The bathrooms were unclean, especially the solo toilet/shower at end of camp. Even if I wore my jandals while showering I would worry I’d still come out of there dirtier than when I went in. I was thankful I had a self contained RV to shower in. The main block toilet floors and sinks were not clean the two days I were there.
Facilities are way too small for amount of people who stay here. The kitchen is tiny, two stoves and a fridge. No pots/pans unless you requested from office. Small bench space. As for the tv room it was a joke, more like a large closet with a tv.
It was the thermal pools that drew us but they were a BIG let down. Full size pool for swimming which was fine but the two thermal pools supposedly 37 & 39 degrees were neither.
I can’t handle 39 degrees and I was only feeling just warm in the 39 degree pool. The 39 degree pool was only chest deep whilst sitting.
We booked a private spa the following night which was warm enough but no way 39 degrees either. The private spa room had paint falling off walls and glad we only booked half hour. Sorry to post this but don’t be drawn in by thermal pools.
Worst motorcamp I have ever visited.
Greeted by very friendly people at check in, so don’t get me wrong about them but sub-standard cleanliness.

Honestly, a little disappointed in the man who I had the misfortune of speaking to at reception the night of our stay. What started as a nice relaxing getaway for my dad and I turned horrible when I had to cancel our private pool session. We had it booked for 8pm but unfortunately, dad wasn't feeling well and we needed to cancel. I went to reception to cancel at 6pm. The man was so so rude. Telling me 2 hours notice is not enough to cancel and he'd turned away customers for that time slot. I apologized again and it made no difference to his attitude. He simply rubbed our booking off the sheet and dismissed me as if i were dirt beneath his feet. I understand that it's inconvenient as it's ultimately cost you $40, but my dad has just been through months of chemo and radiation, he's still recovering and sometimes fatigue and feeling unwell hits suddenly and without warning. This trip was supposed to be a little getaway to celebrate the completion of treatment. And instead, dad is left feeling guilty, because he could hear how angry the man was and the way he was speaking to me. Telling me he's running a business and not a charity. And when i tried to reschedule for the morning, he refused to book me any other times. Told me its the public pool or nothing. Just absolutely disgusting customer service and we will not be back. Very sad.

If that man is reading this, Get a better attitude, or get a different job because you don't know what's going on in people's lives mate, and being horrible and rude to your customers will get you nowhere and ultimately cost you a lot more than 40 measly dollars. I feel sorry for the other office lady having to witness your embarrassing behavior, she was absolutely lovely earlier when we checked in, what a shame. I was so upset by what happened I came to trip advisor to leave a review so this wouldn't happen to others, and I am shocked to find so many other bad reviews of this place! My assumption based on the other recent reviews is that the man i encountered was named Brendan? Unless this place has a history of horrible men working there. Either way, don't stay here!

After being in a hot pool that is recommended not to put your head in the water, there is NO shower with hot water.
There is only 1 shower with cold water.
Also the changing rooms were dark, no light even on a sunny day.
The doors for the cubicles to get changed have no lock so the door keeps opening and hitting you.
I complained to the reception and he was rude.
NEVER AGAIN!!

One has to know that most guests are permanent residents housing in cabins or caravans. Travellers are literally put ib the middle. One will certainly experience the music from the guests (stops at 10pm, starts at 7:30 am), the vivid talks (never stops), the screaming at the pool (all day).
Infrastructure is very basic.
Price: same as a Top 10 Park. Overpriced.
Friendy staff.
But it remained a horrible experience
