Maple Ledge was the first place my son and I stayed on our adventure of NZ. The beds were very comfortable and it was well stocked with complimentary tea and coffee. The shower was great and there were plenty of towels. It was a decent walk into Matamata and we enjoyed our first day very much. The motel is a bit worn but, nonetheless, its very nice.

My friend and I stayed at Maple Lodge in April 14. I found the owners to be friendly and nice. The Tourist Info Centre called and booked it for us. We had a one bedroom unit with a divan in the lounge. It was fine for what we wanted and had a kitchen if you wanted to cook. It has older style units and don't expect too much. It's very homely and really affordable. It felt safe to me. The Motel has a communal laundry. It is close to the Town Centre but if you want to go to the Tourist Centre to catch the Hobbiton Bus, take a taxi - but if you have a rental, you can park at the Visitors Centre. Matamata shopping is quaint but some cafes can be really pricey. Look at the menu first.
I would definitely stay again but if you are used to marble and glass, its not for you.

I stayed here alone for one night in a 1 bedroom suite after visiting Hobbiton and deciding to break the journey one night. Wish I'd not bothered and continued on my way.

I urge anyone to skip this motel and find somewhere else to stay.

The place felt dirty, I had to spend nearly two hours swotting flies which were buzzing around. I have travelled extensively in Africa and never had a room with a fly problem so badly.

I have stayed in many motels claiming to be "budget" but I'd rather spend $20 more and get a place that is at least clean. Floors were sticky, bathroom smelt damp. In my opinion budget should not mean sub-standard. Yes the decor was dated and basic but this was not a problem, the furniture was merely sufficient and the kitchen, adequate.

I was in the shower less than an hour before check out the following morning and received a knock on the door which i ignored. Then half an hour before checkout I received calls "reminding me that checkout was before 10". in my opinion hosts have no business bothering guests before checkout time, unless wake-up calls are requested, the host was simply rude in her manner.

I was also rudely confronted by the lady host about having used one of the beds in the living room in addition to the main bedroom. This was one of two single beds placed in the living room and positioned to be used like sofas alongside two basic wooden dining chairs. Given a choice anyone would use these beds in preference. The host's attitude was unnecessary, matriarchal and rude.

we booked over the phone direct with Maple Lodge Motel to stay that night. we indicated we would be arriving about 7pm (it ended up to be more 8pm). The lovely lady said she would leave the unit unlocked with heater on, milk in fridge, Wifi tickets and key on bench. True to her word, we found it all in place. The unit was probably a good 40 years old but had been immaculately maintained and presented. was lovely and warm and very comfortable - excellent value for money. When we went to check out in the morning, we were greeted with a very cheery hostess (same lady I spoke to on the phone). Highly recommend for the tariff charged. Thank you!

We arrived at 22:15 and the reception was closed. We rang the motel and a woman attended us and could put us in the room. I really apologize to don't understand the way motels work (there is not a place like this in Brazil) and I am very thankful for this.

The room is big and is almost my home size. It's not only a room, in fact, but a complete house with kichen and a living room. Very confortable with good shower and good bed.

Place is very silent and we slept all the time with only the sound of the crickets.

We had a job to do in Matamata that we didn't get done in one day so therefore had to stay overnight. We wanted to stay somewhere close to central downtown to make it quicker and easier to get into town for dinner. The Broadway motel was fully booked and the manager recommended the Maple - being the next closest. The owner was very friendly and showed us to our room and showed us the pool as it was a scorching hot day! The pool was great for a cool off and would be great if you had small children. It's not big enough to do some real laps of the pool, but great all the same. This motel is in the middle of residential housing and there are a couple of houses that also over look the pool. So leave your skimpy bikini at home :) The owner also recommended a couple nice restaurants in town and gave a business card for the local taxi cab - even though you could easily walk the 10mins to the main street!! We called the cab! Who was great and further offered us his favourite restaurants in town. The motel unit was clean and tidy although the kitchen and bathroom windows looked up into the house next door - or more to the point they can look into yours! There wasn't much air movement in the room (as I said it was a hot day/night) and the fan that was there served no good purpose but to move the hot air around! Plus the fan was noisy so we had to turn it off. Otherwise a great stay and good value for money.

We attended a wedding in Matamata on a hot Saturday in December 2010 and stayed the night at the Maple Lodge. This is an older style motel, but we could not fault it. Very very clean and helpful friendly hosts. Good beds and bedding. We can recommend this central motel.

Everything about it was fantastic, Beautiful room and spotlessly clean. We were made so welcome, it started when we walked in and the owner gave us an ice cold beer! It really was one of the nicest places we stayed on our trip,

Normally choose 4-4 1/2 star accomodation , but in some quainter NZ rural towns, ya just go with the flow.
Maple Lodge motel is a drift back in time , but a wonderful one at that. Nicely located to both the town and the Matamata-TeAroha cycle trail , which was the our reason for our stay in Matamata. Booked directly with the motelier who was very helpful, and entertaining and gave us a great tip on where to dine in Matamata, newly opened Sofra Meditteranean
restaurant , will do another review separately. The motel is nicely distanced from the main highway, iwas probably built in the 70's , inter tenancy masonry block walls off that area. We had a studio- generously and very comfy bed, with comfy soft
pillows, good air con, all ya needs for a one nite stopver and being no.9 fairly quiet. After a long and warm ride was nice to come back and have a dip in the pool. We both njoyed our stay here and big ups to our
wonderful host Fiona. So if ya doing the trail and need a nice and comfy stay - try The Maple Lodge
