I stayed in Casa Mexicana in April this year. Having read some of the reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised.
I am a solo female traveller and I frequently travel by bus to reach my destinations. When he heard of this,Peter the owner offered to pick me up from the bus stop in town. He also offered to to drive me to and from the local supermarket if needed. I didn't need to accept the offers but I knew that they were genuine. As other people have stated, the motel is dated but it is absolutely spotless. And, in contrast to one comment, I would say that my big double bed was divine! It smelled of fresh clean air and laundry powder. The bedroom was at the back of the suite and I didn't hear any traffic noise at all, despite being situated on the main road. The wifi was free and adequate for my use. It did disconnect from time to time but this was not enough of a problem for me to mention it to Peter. The motel is very good value for money and both Peter and his wife were charming and helpful hosts.

Hey, this is not a swept up accommodation. In fact, it's pretty ordinary. Sparkly rough plaster ceilings (c. 1970), tired bathroom and furniture you wouldn't want in your home. But at $95, what would you expect? There was a huge TV with Sky and adequate channels, a basic kitchen annex with microwave, hot plate and jug. Tea, coffee and milk supplied. The owner was kind enough to ring me while on my way to Paeroa, just to let me know he was popping out for half an hour and was very courteous on my arrival. So okay if you are just looking for a place to sleep one night on your way to somewhere else (why would you want to stop in Paeroa for longer than that anyway?).

Not a bad place - very dated decor and feels worn. That being said, people were friendly and it was clean. Had unlimited wifi which was a pleasant surprise however the Mexican theme is restricted to the buildings looking vaguely Mediterranean.

Stayed here last month and from the pictures online it looked fine. The rooms looked alright though dated. Free Sky and wifi. With a little inspecting there seemed to be spots of dust. The room i stayed in had a slight damp smell though it looked fine. weird owner introduced himself as Peter.. In the morning i got ready and before leaving, used the bathroom, it had been about two minutes past the checkout time when i heard a loud knocking on the door. It was the owner. I gathered my things and as i left he rushed inside to straighten out the sheets i had used. I would not stay there again due to the smell of the room. Perhaps it just needs to be aired out.

Stayed for one night and was glad to leave. Funny smell in the room, the owner was a bit strange and the motel is not very professionally run. Upon our checkout we were speaking to the owner outside of our room whilst he had a look through the room. He proceeded to start just pulling the bedding and covers back up to remake the bed. We asked him if he was actually going to strip the bed and replace the dirty sheets with clean ones rather than just remaking it. He mumbled some excuse about yes he was, he was just tidying up or something. Am now worried about how long those same sheets were on the bed and who had used them before us. I wouldn't recommend this motel for tourists. It looked like a place only for truck drivers and workers to stay on the way through for a bed.

Big and well appointed units for $85 a night including sky, and new big screen TV. Not super nice but I was impressed at what i got for the price. Nice having a covered veranda outside especially when it rains as it did for the day i stayed.

We had booked a room for 3 ladies from overseas. Unfortunately they didn't receive our email.
As a result, unfortunately our guests booked elsewhere.
The manager of Casa Mexicana was very considerate throughout numerous phonecalls between us.
The Casa Mexicana is a well appointed premise convenient to central Paeroa & within 5 mins walk. The new rail trail walk or cycle track gives visitors some fabulous rural and historical views through nearby Karangahake gorge.
Casa Mexicana - a great base for Hauraki Plains visit.

We stayed in this motel while traveling back to Kaitaia on a business trip, The motel was sited close to the main highway so road traffic was quite loud, but the room we slept in was at the back of the unit so road noise was not to bad. The shower in the unit was very small but clean as was the unit it self. the bed was very comfortable and clean so we awoke refreshed. No shampoo was supplied only small bars of soap. out of ten I would mark this motel a 5. We would stay in this motel again as the price was reasonable for the quality of the room ( you get what you pay for $100.00 a night)

We were 2 sets of Mother'n'Daughter exploring Paeroa - from modern music to family history. Venue was well situated - easy to find, good and central with parking at the very door. Nice surprise to be upgraded, as the proprietors continue their modernisation. Appreciated the distinctive style AND the classic kiwi woollen blankets in the cool weather. Excellent firm mattresses, luggage stands and ..interesting coffee tables. Also grateful for flexibility with the checkout time. Only improvement suggestion might be softer lighting above the bathroom mirror to soften the look of a Good Night Out...
