A ten rooms hotel along the Garonne ideally located to visit the vineyards between Bordeaux and Margaux. Its ten luxurious rooms, finely furnished, are each marked by a particular soul, the quiet charm of an old house along the Garonne and a modern comfort. Bathrooms, made with wood and mosaics, inspire welfare. The hotel has its own boat to join Bordeaux center. 15 minutes of sailing, drinks on board, facing the 18th century facades of Bordeaux.

We returned this year after a very enjoyable stay in 2018. The site on the Gironde is sublime, the hotel impeccable. This time we hit a very hot time so the adequate AC in the rooms was much appreciated. The overall rating would have been ***** but for the very weak WiFi signal in the rooms. I hope upgrading the WiFi is on the hotel's To-Do list. Would also be nice to have a LIGHT breakfast option. The buffet is lovely, but too much food, too time consuming, and too expensive for people who only want coffee and a pastry.

First the positives, the hotel is located outside of Bordeaux, so you do not have to drive through the city and encounter any congested traffic issues. This also allows for easy and free parking at the hotel. The suites on the river are really lovely and spacious with a large terrace on which to read, have a glass of wine or just relax. The beds are super comfortable, and the bathroom very well equipped. There is a small refrigerator and safe in the room. An elevator from the ground floor up is very convenient.

Breath-taking, stunning, relaxing, friendly, great views, great staff, lovely wine / food and beautiful grounds - this about sums it up. Its only a 30 min taxi ride into the centre of Bordeaux (recommend getting an uber as its half the price) Came here for a relaxing girlie weekend and didn't want to leave. The pool area is beautiful and well looked after. I will be returning next year with the family.

We booked this hotel on our way through France to Spain. It looked nice from the pictures. We were greeted by a friendly man who showed us our room, fortunately my daughter who booked this had organised a bottle of wine to be ready for us in our room as it turned out there was no bar, just a machine you put money or credit card into which then decants a glass of wine, sorry but since when does wine come from a vending machine, this is meant to be the home of good wine and they can't just serve wine from a bottle!!! Also this is meant to be a 4 star hotel!!! Also food is only served in your room as their is no restaurant area, only a breakfast room. So pasta is pretty much the only thing on the menu, oh and Caesar Salad. Very basic and Pasta was heavy and stodgy, again how did this Hotel get 4 stars?. We had a nice room with a balcony overlooking the river and the bed was very comfortable, linens were good quality. Bathroom was well appointed. But that was about it. Breakfast was basic. The most irritating thing though was coming to pay when we left. From the breakfast room we overheard another pair of guests checking out and supposedly their credit card had been refused so they were asked to settle in cash. When we came to pay surprise surprise , our card was was refused too!! as were 3 other cards I tried to pay with. Eventually I called my bank and was told there was nothing wrong with my card and that no attempts were even showing up on their system Hmmm. I confronted the girl at the reception about this and she said that their internet must be down, which it wasn't as I had been using it 10 minutes earlier booking another Hotel. It is a common scam particularly in France to get people to pay cash out of season so they don't have to declare it. We refused to pay cash so they had to eventually charge my card, but beware if you travel in the low season as this has happened to us several times before in France.

Response from Réception G, Gérant at Château Grattequina
Responded 19 Feb 2020
Dear guest, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are glad that you enjoyed the quality of our rooms. However, we are sorry to hear that our services didn’t match your expectations. We do serve drinks: soft, liquor and wine by the bottle. Since three years, we have this wine machine to serve wine by the glass. Our guests are always pleased by this service that allows them to have a glass of wine whenever they want. Regarding food, we serve fresh food: salads, tomato mozzarella, charcuterie, cheese, foie gras, pasta… We apologize if you thought that your only option was to eat in your room as our breakfast room is turned into a dinning room during the day and the evening. And the terrace is also used for meals. We understand your remarks and will take them into account in order to improve our service. However, we cannot accept your accusations of us trying to force our guests to pay in cash in order to, supposedly, not declare part of the income of the hotel. What you are stating is simply not true but also offensive. Your comment hasn’t enough detail for us to know when you stayed with us, but it does happen once or twice a year that our payment terminal doesn’t work.

We originally booked a two-night non-refundable stay at the hotel for November 2020, but due to travel restrictions from Covid, we were unable to visit France at that time and so asked to change our booking to June 2020 which the hotel agreed to. Recently with travel restrictions in the UK extended, we asked the hotel if we could move our booking back again to August. The hotel immediately refused to change our booking again and cancelled our reservation without any offer of a voucher or refund. There was no understanding from the hotel that the situation was not our choice and we were extremely disappointed with the customer service and lack of flexibility.

What a very pleasant surprise and close to Bordeaux and St. Emillion. The room was spacious and even more so with high ceilings. Traveling as couple with adult daughter and room easily accommodated extra bed. Corner room front facing with pool view and partial Garonne river view. Option of having a picnic lunch/dinner in the quaint fishing pier structure a nice touch. Highly recommend the boat ride on the Garonne into Bordeaux city center if you feel like a little splurge. We had a nice sunny morning to enjoy the half an hour ride which delivers you directly to Bordeaux Place de la Bourse (city riverfront and walk right into Gothic city center). Easy and inexpensive Uber access from Bordeaux. Staff eager to please with wine (nice touch with the card and machine!) and food. Exceeded expectations and would gladly return for longer stay when next in Bordeaux!

Everything about this place makes you want to stay longer . The welcome is warm , the public rooms ooze design and quality , the grounds along the bank of the river makes you want to linger longer and the bedrooms were comfortable large with views over the trees and lawns . Breakfast was fresh and high quality and our guide , advisor and hostess , Sybille , was charming , witty, helpful and added to our enjoyment . Thanks Sybille , thanks Grattequina . We’ll be back again .

I stayed at Chateau Grattequina with a few friends and we loved it. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the property itself was incredible. Each room was unique but they were all comfortable with the amenities we were expecting. Based on the time of year we didn't get to fully utilize the pool area but the setup was stunning. We found the location pretty much ideal for our explorations around Bordeaux. My favourite part about the hotel was the privacy. It really felt like we had the place to ourselves most evenings. My only criticism was the wifi consistency in the chateau. In my room (#1) the signal was basically dead and my friends all shared a similar disappointment. It makes perfect sense because the walls of the chateau are so thick but hopefully management can address this with some new equipment. Personally I didn't mind being disconnected for a couple of days but the phone signal in the area was also weak so if anyone wanted to reach someone by FaceTime or check a couple of emails then they needed to travel to the main floor where the wifi signal was strongest.

We had a wonderful stay at Grattequina. The property is beautiful (the pictures don’t really do it justice) and stylish, the staff welcoming and polite and the grounds are beautiful. We had good food at the local restaurants nearby; Ubers are relatively easy and inexpensive. Highly recommended !

Will definitely return. Service and accommodations are top-notch. Suite had spa amenities, including luxurious shampoo and body wash, oversized shower, new robes, and fridge stocked with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The view from my suite was outstanding, having waken up the Garonne River and nature each day. Canneles on the table to greet you were a nice touch.
