Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You have to visit this place, it is FANTASTIC! I rode for the day with the owner Baerbel and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! My horse Redwing was a great ride and with just the two of us it seemed more like a ride with a friend. Great scenery, horses, conversation and hospitality at the farmhouse. Whether you are a rider or not, you will love Hack Farm!!

The owner of this place could not have been more helpful. Upon our arrival she showed us where everything was and that we could use produce from the garden, herbs from the kitchen and there was a home made loaf of bread in the bread bin. The fire wood was stacked up ready to go and even lit for us when we where a bit late back from a days biking. An offer was made to pick us up from the local inn if we enjoyed a little to much hospitality. Even if you aren’t a horsey type of person, it is a great place to stay. And even dog friendly.

It's such a wonderful place to stay. I booked a vehicle campsite for one night and extended my stay because I liked it so much and would love to come back again. Even if it was raining most of the time wasn't a problem at all. The facilities (kitchen area, lounge, bathrooms) are super cute and you can find a nice spot to enjoy the time and have a chat with others. I explored the farm with all the animals and walked to beach as well. Bärbel is a great host and such a lovely person. I would always recommend to stay there.

Wonderful stay. Very beautiful location and homestead. Very clean and comfortable. Very friendly hosts - changed our room to make us more comfortable. Very nice other guests - family. Barbel was cool! Very strong and funky lady! Decor of the homestead is gorgeous - creative and artistic!! So inspiring and so well run too!! All the horses looking very healthy, well cared for, alert and athletic. A really vibrant happy friendly and calm place. Looking at the photos brings so many good feelings. We were travelling in the area and didn't want to drive back to Nelson in the same day - was really really great to break the stay in Takaka and stay here - Takaka is a brilliant place. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Four of us on a hack down to the beach, with a fun canter or two(!) on the sand. Pippa, our guide, gave us a briefing on how their horses respond and some differences with european vs western instructions. Well-led, relaxed approach but with a good sense of responsibility for the welfare of the animals. Fulfilled a dream to ride on the beach!

Baerbell is an absolutely fantastic coach and teacher who really brings out the best in her riders. I booked an overnight stay along with an evening sunset ride and then a morning ride and it was one of the best horse riding experiences I have had. For experienced riders she hones the fine details and breaths fresh life into poor habits whilst sharing a vast amount of experience. The views are phenomenal and the beach ride is to die for. You will love your experience!!

the instruction and support throughout the ride was extraordinary. We were shown how to ride effectively and in harmony your horse. Riding from the mountains through the magical forest to the beach threaded with fresh water streams flowing into the ocean was thrilling. Sharing such a journey with well trained responsive horses and competent compassionate guides is a highlight in my riding career.

Amazing hack down to Patons rock beach, Pippa was a fantastic guide, easy to get along with and everyone was very accommodating, great value for money, we were riding for about 2.5 hours and Pippa took tons of photos and sent them to us which made it even more special to have the memories, we rode Brownie, and Duff and Arnie who were all perfect horses. We will be back on our next trip.

Such a lovely place for riding and staying, in our case with a camper van. Lovely surroundings, great riding experience, friendly atmosphere and easy and relaxed in terms of booking and rebooking due to weather. Can warmly recommend this!

We stayed at Hack and Stay, but weren't riding. We were still welcomed with opened arms. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay. It is a great location for exploring Farewell Spit too. Had the best nights sleep here all holiday.
