Golden Bay Holiday park is located on the beach in the centre of Golden Bay, halfway between the Abel Tasman National Park and Farewell Spit. It is a spacious park comprising 210 campsites, 2 luxury apartments, 6 cabins and a self-contained cabin. The park is in a rural area at the end of a private road and is bounded by bush and pasture, with a river down one boundary and fronted by its own private beach. There is no street noise, and no street lights to disturb the natural setting. In the morning the sun rises out of the sea, and a beach fire in the evening is the perfect way to finish your day. We are dog friendly in our low peak season from beginning of March to end of November.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed mid Feb 2023 for 5 night – great beach and amenities – we stayed in cabin #6 very private with all the mod cons - space and clear views - weber on the balcony overlooking the ocean. We used this as a base to explore Farewell Spit, Heaphy track, Abel Tasman National Park (Totaranui), Te Waikoropupu Springs and surrounds. Mussel Inn 5 mins down the road is a gem for food and drinks and music – wish we’d gone every night rather than only the 3 out of 5 – especially for the mussels – great value.

This site did not compare favourably with others we stayed at. Check in was ok, but the facilities are tired, tokens needed for showers, though the location on the beach was nice. The park is miles from any supermarket or petrol station, so come fully laden.

It had everything needed - showers are a dollar for 4 mins, which I thinks a bit too Pugh when you hav paid for the night. Lovely in winter with few campers around, with view straight onto beach from block A, looks like a lovely beach house available to rent also

I liked it, our stay. They looked after us and nothing was a problem because we did have a few requests, but they sorted us, and gave us options. A very real kiwi experience. My dad would've been mates with these people... We were a group of 3 instructors and 14 teenagers exploring Golden Bay and parts of the West Coast (Wharariki) and based ourselves at the holiday park. Good cooking facilities for a group our size. Lots of hot water/showers and clean ablution blocks. Beachside tent spaces and the sound of the waves breaking drowned out the incessant teenage jabbering. Highlights 1. Colony of Blue Peguin burrows along the treeline. A privilege to be so close to nature. 2. The night sky. The Milky Way, shooting stars...wow! 3. Sunrises. Watch the sun climb up out of the ocean and into the Heavens. 4. A wee fire on the beach for marshmallows and story time. Permission first from the office as safety protocols apply. 5. Good base location for exploring and connecting to the region. 6. Easy, yet professional hosts. ...so good in fact the following week we took a whole nother group of teens back to do it all again. The Holiday Park upgraded this next group into cabins cause the weather was a bit naff. Cabins! Teens thought it was Christmas, all 15 of them. Monitored and supervised, but the cabins had bunks and beds, linen, pillows, heating and very very clean. Recommendations A. The hosts/managers are good at what they do. Host B. I cant say enough about the location. C. Local community, local culture. ...and once you've settled in, go discover your own piece of paradise. Well done the Golden Bay Holiday Park. See you again soon Mike, Linda and Kegan for Whenua Iti Outdoors

Left the main highway and drove down quite a long way to reach the camping grounds only to find that they were closed and no one was to enter under any circumstances. I understand that people may be worried about Covid but surely a sign on Billboard on the main highway would save people the trip to the camp. I rate it low due to owners not displaying closed on the bill board and cannot answer any questions on amenities.

Cannot beat the location, right on the beach. Beach is long and flat so awesome for swimming and is nice and calm great for the kids. I stayed on luxury apartment which was fabulous and well worth the money. Showers powerful and bed super comfy, great to be able to relax and stare out at sea. Very clean facilities and hosts are fantastic. Very friendly and knowledgeable and happy to help.

Camped for 2 weeks, amenities clean and tidy, campground grounds well looked after and tidy, kids playground safe, camp managers approachable and friendly. Beach is safe for kids swimming and paddle boarding. Definitely coming back next New Years.

Would not recommend to anyone, avoid! Upon arrival the owner was grumpy. The facilities were revolting! Faecal matter and urine overflowing from the toilets and no toilet paper in the other toilets. The showers were cold despite having to pay for them and in the men's they would cover your genitals and that's about it. The owners seemed serious about limiting the spread of covid, yet there were signs telling you to wash your hands then sanitize...but no soap was provided? There were those most unhygienic pull down hand rolls to dry your hands on too. They cram you in a field with no hedges for privacy so you better get on with your 500 neighbour's. When we asked for a refund we got asked why and after explaining, we got sarcastic comments about how we clearly knew how to run a campsite. The owner reluctantly gave us one and we happily left!! Far too many people for the facilities to handle, especially during a pandemic!

We were rather disappointed with this camping ground and we didn't feel it was value for money ($59 per night). The power supply plug was a long way away from our camp site and our power cord did not reach the plug (this has never happened before). There was no hot water when my husband showered and because there was no shower curtain water went all over the area where you get dressed etc We probably wouldn't recommend this place to others ...
