Come and enjoy Golden Bay's warm and friendly lifestyle...Perfectly situated at the entrance to Takaka Township, next door to the Golden Bay Visitor Centre, bus stop and supermarket. Ideal for the traveller arriving into Takaka by bus. The motel's ambience is one of restful colours, warmth and serenity, enjoying rural views and the ranges in the west from a sun-drenched patio. Mohua Motels makes an ideal base from which to explore all this wonderful region has to offer. You really need to spend at least a week or more in Golden Bay; time to visit the rugged beauty at its northern most tip and the numerous beaches that stretch from Farewell Spit to the golden sands of Totaranui at the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed for three nights and I must say, we were very impressed by the courteous staff and efficient management. The room was serviced daily with fresh linen, condiments and fastidiously cleaned. On our departure, my wife and I both commented that if all motels were operated in this manner, it would be very refreshing. When staying at motels or hotels, the one thing that really annoys us is the cleanliness of the place. Have no fears about the Mohua Motels, they are spotless!! Very handy to the local shops, a supermarket literally across the road, and our unit, on the Northern side of the complex, had a very pastoral view of green paddocks and we even had a nice little balcony area to enjoy the late afternoon with a glass of chilled wine. Would we recommend this motel to friends. Most Certainly.

What a lovely place to stay. Located walking distance to the town centre and very close to the supermarket. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. It was great to have Sky TV in rooms noting the lack of channels on free to air Tv in NZ. The motel offered excellent BBQ facilities with two BBQ's available for use with outdoor seating. The laundry facilities were great and we were able to do all our washing which was appreciated mid way though a two week visit to NZ.
Would highly recomend this motel to others.

We stayed for just 2 nights but would've stayed longer. We had a 2 bed unit , it overlooked a lovely field and was very peaceful. The room amenities were good, living area huge and bedrooms good sized. The only minor detail was the bed, one of the doubles was a bit soft, I prefer a firm mattress and this definitely wasn't but I still managed to sleep ok. The location on the edge of the town is good, we actually walked to one of the nearby restaurants which was easy (Roots).
Highly recommend staying here. Easy to get about into the Tasman National park and other areas.

We stayed in a studio balcony unit which was very nice. It was sunny with a north facing view over farmland with a small table and two chairs on the balcony.
The room had a queen bed and 1 single bed in it. I love soft beds and this one suited me nicely.
It was a first for us to stay at a motel that had a note about servicing of the room saying they did not make the beds during our stay. Just as well we are reasonably tidy sleepers so didn't have a problem with this, but be warned if you are messy sleepers, you will have to make your own bed each day.
The other servicing such as towel changing all got done fine except I had to go and ask for some dishwash liquid as no bottle had been left under the sink in our room for us to do the dishes.
There were good kitchen facilities and a roomy bathroom.
The main part of the room had a desk and a chair under the TV. While the weather is nice two can sit at the table outside, but two cannot sit inside to watch TV or to eat, unless one sits on the bed. You could bring one outdoor chair inside but there really isn't enough space to do that usefully.
We used the guest laundry and that all worked well.
The host were friendly and we did enjoy the stay with its convenient location just on the edge of the town and very close to the supermarket on the opposite side of the road and just along a bit.

We loved this motel, really enjoyed our stay and wished we could have stayed longer. Our room was modern, spacious and well equipped with a lovely outlook. The location is perfect, walking distance to the Takaka township and within close proximity to the stunning Golden Bay beaches and walking tracks. Really looking forward to returning.

This was a great location, just on the fringe of everything Takaka has to offer. We got some great recommendations when we checked in for things to do in the area . The room itself was spacious and clean, with a nice balcony. Be sure to look out for the resident cat roaming the grounds. The laundry was very convenient and the location is within 20 minutes of a number of spectacular places. You can easily walk to a number of restaurants and a grocery store. One of the best lodging values we encountered in NZ.

Wonderful relaxing surroundings, friendly owners, spotlessly clean motels. An absolute relaxing haven after a hard afternoon catching fat salmon at Anatoki and drinking way too much Corona. Great water pressure in the showers, coffee plunger, biscuits, great soaps etc. Exteremely clean, great aircon. Wooden shutters or opening louvres either side of ranch slider provide great ventilation. Already planning our next sty at Mohua! Thanks Heaps!

Stunner of a property, really close to a swimming hole - we loved staying here. The apartment for our family of four was super-clean, modern and had everything we needed for our four night stay - including a storage cupboard, a patio area and really stunning toiletries in the bathroom. What a gem.

We had three single people to accommodate in a unit and were delighted to find two bedrooms and a lounge. Very spacious and quiet. The unit was absolutely spotless with lots of cutlery etc. The location is an easy stroll to the shops and also very quiet. Our friends in another unit needed to leave their van there for a few days and the hosts were very accommodating - as they were when we turned up early and needed to use toilets, drop bags etc. The beds were very comfortable with lovely linen

Welcome great. Helpful hosts. Unit was very clean and everything we wanted was there. We even had a suitcase carried up the steps.
It was a little unusual to not have hot showers late afternoon on day we checked in but great by the next morning.
Maybe toilet paper could be upgraded.
