Stayed one night in a room at ground floor for 4 with Lizard Safari Lodge. Good stay with basic facilities in room (shower room did not have hanger, no proper glassdoor cover but a simple curtain). Watch out for big mosquitoes. Enjoyed the 2.5hrs safari tour arranged with them, started to go queue for entering the safari at 530am, got to catch sunrise along the way, had a simple breakfast given on the jeep. Our driver/guide was a good driver with sharp eyes watching out animals in the safari to point out to us! After returning to the lodge, we were served with sumptuous breakfast (local fusion style) before checking out. They were friendly host.

I have spent one night on Lizard safari lodge and welcome is really exceptional. Nandu has organised a really nice safari for me, has prepared a good dinner for me even if i was alone.

We have spent all the evening to discuss of our life and experinces around a fire he has made to cook manioc with him and his family.

An amazing evening like if i was from the family.

Stutti Nandu and Ayubowan.

It was an absolute pleasure to have such beautiful safari with Nandana. We had a great time at Udawalawa and since the time he has picked us he was such a caring person and he has vast knowledge about animals and Udawalawa forest. The safari was amazing and we saw plenty of animals including lots of elephants. We stayed inside the forest one night. it was an even better experience. He has given us all the necessary advices and shown us all important spots as well. Thank you so much Nandana for the amazing safari.

We booked 4 rooms with meals + 2 long taxi rides for 130 dollars. A few weeks after booking and shortly before our trip the owner wrote that either we take safari with him 3 times more expensive than other providers (he asked for 70 dollars when standard price we got everywhere else is 20-25 dollars) or we need to pay more for the rooms. There was nothing about it in the offer on booking. I call it a scam :(

The thing that sets this place apart from the rest is the quality of service - up until this point it had been mediocfre throughout the country but Nandu and his team will help with absolutely anything you need. I had a really hard time finding hoppers for breakfast in a lot of places which I love, and Nandu had them made especially for our last morning, and french toast! Amazing, Before every meal he would ask what we wanted and whether there was anything we disliked. The dinners of curry and rice were plentiful and delicious- made by his mum! Accommodation at the lodge - there are only 4 rooms. The first night we were the only ones there and then the next night the place was full. We had a downstairs room as wanted AC but the stone walls mean you can probably do without it and upstairs has a balcony area. We could hear the people's footsteps above us but it didn't bother us as you're up early for safair anyway. The bed was very comfy and the room and bathroom very clean. For good value accommodation in the mid-range, it was the best we had anywhere. We chose a full day safari as it was xmas day and we wanted to make the most of it. An amazing experience riding in the open top truck. We Were worried at first as the entrance was packed at 6am but everyone goes in different directions through the park and we had a couple of hours of seeing no other cars at all. The driver took us to a quiet spot for a fruit break by the river which was lovely and then to the campsite in the middle of the park for lunch where macaques hilariously circle you waiting for scraps. The animal sightings are few and far between - but it's a national park not a zoo and when we did spot something (which over 12 hours was plenty - elephants, birds, boar, water buffalo, peacocks, jackals, monkeys, deer....the list goes on) it's very exciting and feels like a privilege to see these creatures in their natural habitats. Our driver was great - we didn't feel the need to hire a guide in addition to tell us everything in great detail and our driver's knowledge of where to find animals and key info about what they were doing and why was enough for us. We just wanted to relax and enjoy the whole experience. Thanks to Nandu and team for a great stay!

Stayed here with our 2 girls (10&11). Amazing location. Nandu makes sure you’re never bored with lots of little excursions. The river swimming and temple were great. Best is the safari. Simply stunning, fabulous guide and vehicle provided by Nandu. Then there’s the food. Best we had in Sri Lanka. Traditional curries. Only issue was a few too many ants. Nandu sorted this immediately. And you’re in the countryside, so expect some bugs. The highlight of our Sri Lanka trip and phenomenal value for money.

Disclaimer: we did not end up staying at the hotel so I cant review the location, but our experience.

We arrived at 7h30pm as per our booking and after waiting for a few minutes we were told to get in a jeep. The owner then brought us to another hotel, his brother's but never actually explained what was happening until we got there.

Apparently our room needed reparations, but this was never told to us in advance. His brother's hotel while fine, was not what we booked, was not as nice, and we were frustrated to be forced to stay somewhere we didn't choose as it was 8pm already. He should have told us in advance.

We also had to go online and figure ourselves that the price for this different hotel was cheaper AND we were offered absolutely no compensation. Not the best customer service.

Loved staying here - the food was amazing (cooked by the managers lovely mother) and the staff were friendly. We also booked our safari through the hotel and had an extremely knowledgable guide called Jonty who went above and beyond to explain the park in detail. The manager also arranged for us to go to Yala and packed us a to-go breakfast! He let us borrow his bikes to cycle into town. Would very much recommend for an authentic and relaxing jungle stay at a great price.

I can't say enough good things about this place.

Everything about this place is perfect, from the rustic stone-walled rooms to the quiet hum at night from insects and swaying trees. If you sit outside on the patio, hummingbirds and colorful lizards will dart past.

The gentleman running this lodge has 23 years of guiding experience, and has poured all of that into creating a home base that provides tourists with the ultimate springboard to Udawalawe National Park. You unequivocally need to book your tour through Lizard Safari. The owner's guides are impeccable, his trucks are clean, and he even brought us lunch himself (along with a couple of free beers) in the middle of our daylong safari.

Udawalawe is my favorite Sri Lankan national park, and I can't imagine a better way of experiencing it than staying at Lizard Safari Lodge.

We went there on a recommendation from our tour guide. We stayed one night and used the lodge as base for our safari the next day. The owner was great, his staff super helpful. The dinner and breakfast /lunch the next day were awesome. Our safari driver was his brother, who looked after us and showed us amazing spots in the park.
