Airds Hotel & Restaurant captivates many with its homely charm and splendid location that offers stunning views. However, the enchanting atmosphere is occasionally marred by areas needing an update, and while the staff is commended for their professionalism, concerns about understaffing and service delays surface. The rooms, often praised for their comfortable beds and scenic outlooks, are also criticized for showing wear and lacking in cleanliness. Though the food receives high marks, some guests find the overall value diminished by the high costs and dated amenities.

Having just left Airds Hotel in Port Appin, we can say without hesitation that we’ll be coming back. Set in the idyllic west highlands, it really is a hidden gem. They had put in a huge effort to be Covid-19 safe including hand sanitisers around site, masks worn by staff and guests (when not sat at tables), an anti-bacterial misting of the rooms between guests, social distanced tables and the option of full housekeeping, towel/partial service left outside your door or none at all (depending on what made you feel most comfortable). But none of their covid measures detracted from our amazing stay. The staff were so kind, attentive and informative giving recommendations of things to do nearby (walking routes, day trips etc). A big thank you to them all (shout out to our lovely server Sarah in particular). And last but by no means least, the food was INCREDIBLE. Local produce cooked expertly, each plate was a delicious work of art and the tasting menu we had on our first night was well worthy of its rosettes. We would hugely recommend.

What a great review thank you and we were blown away by your lovely comments from the food, to the service to the Covid measures we have taken and we are so grateful for your feedback which really serves to continue to motivate all the staff at such a difficult time. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and all the staff hope to see you back again very soon. Please do check out our special offers for autumn and winter on our website, as these do provide great value breaks at a time when I think most people want to escape - restrictions permitting. Once again thank you so much for a such a lovely review. With best wishes, Shaun.

We went to Port Appin for a drive and we did find this on the map before going and decided to email ahead and to see if they did lunch for non residents, got a quick reply and decided whilst we was on our drive we would call in.
The hotel is in a great location and of course because we had our dog we was informed that we could stay in the conservatory or in the bar.
We decided to go in to the bar area where its small and cosy, the hotel is absolutely spotlessly clean and its well decorated and has a very comfortable homely feel. I love the decor of the hotel.
We ordered coffees and then we asked for a lunch menu, we was disappointed with the lunch menu as there wasn’t really anything on it we liked.
The staff are attentive to needs and if your passing it’s definitely worth a visit - coffees a bit pricey at £4.50 each for a small cup but it wouldn’t put me of going again.
Ideal if you have dogs and it was raining when we arrived so was glad to get out of the rain.

Let's start with the positives. Every member of staff that we encountered gave first class service. Every meal was exceptional and well presented however there could be a bigger selection than 3 mains. Room and bathroom were perfectly acceptable and we received clean towels without even requesting them. This was bought as a birthday surprise but my personal opinion is its a bit overpriced and the bar prices are very expensive. Also an establishment like this should not run out of beer

Pros

The staff are excellent despite the dated overly formal service they are told to provide.

The location in Port Appin is superb.

Cons

The hotel's price point is the same as many 5* hotels in central London. Yet it fails to provide the basic amenities required for that standard. It offers very poor value for money leaving the impression of price gouging.

Rooms facilities are lacking. No safe. No individual heat control. No air conditioning. No fridge. No tea or coffee making facilities unless requested.

Room was poorly maintained and used very out dated technology. Doors were misaligned. Closets were not backed or had any flooring

Housekeeping was appalling. Simple standards not maintained e.g. toilet roll not replaced. Towels no choice or information to choose being fresh or retained (always retained). Bed cover bundled into wardrobe unfolded pushing clothes to one side.

Alcoholic drinks extraordinarily expensive. 300%+ mark up on wine. Basic spirits and soft drinks more expensive than central London.

Food whilst attempting to be fine dining lacking creativity and presentation skills. The dining room itself contained outdated furniture and unimaginative.

Whilst I appreciate that these are unusual Covid restricted times and recognise the hotel was making excellent efforts to overcome those challenges. The basic infrastructure together with food and beverage was simply not commensurate with the cost charged.

This hotel is a very long way from the standards it ascribes to itself. It is nothing more than a decent 3* or possibly limited 4* accommodation with an at best mediocre dining room. It has the potential to be so much more. I really hope it improves

We have just returned from the most wonderful break at Airds and could not have asked for more. From the really friendly and helpful staff to the most delicious food we could not have asked for more. This was our first stay in a hotel since restrictions were lifted so we were a bit nervous about exactly how safe it would be. However, we could tell how much effort they had gone to to put procedures in place without them being intrusive and it could not have been more relaxing.

There were such lovely little touches like whisky mac in the room, a complimentary tea tray with pastries brought to our room if you wanted -which we certainly did! - and gorgeous Bulgaria toiletries, what a treat.

The restaurant was so relaxing and with the candles at night was very romantic as we looked over the water towards the mountains.

Thank you for making our trip so special and we will be back.

We stayed 2 nights bed ,breakfast and dinner. The food was excellent, imaginative, tasty and appealingly presented in a spotless restaurant with a great view. Staff were very helpful throughout our stay.
For the overall price of £720 [excluding bar bills] the hotel itself was disappointing as accommodation [room 2] was basic with several shortcomings eg plaster was coming adrift from the wall near the shower, the complimentary fudge and shortbread were left without cover for the whole of our stay and there wasn't any milk in the room [the instruction was to ring if we wanted any].A small fridge would have been useful. The hotel was unable to provide decaf coffee ,americano, cappuccino nor cognac. A grubby carpet covered the public toilet floor.

This Hotel claims to be Relais which was a huge factor in our visit to the hotel as we have visited the area before and wanted to treat ourselves.

It was an utter disappointment from start to finish and I am shocked that it is allowed to still be in such a prestigious brand.
Not met in the car park (no wonder as the hotel is currently ran on what feels like 3 operational staff).

No porter so the handyman lifted our bags to the room in paint covered clothes, which felt very unprofessional.

The “general manager” was frosty and uninviting. they were so understaffed none of them had any chance to chat, the staff usually make a property but not in this case. Every point of contact was rushed as if we were an inconvenience and we spent a lot of time sitting around waiting for service.

The Hotel we were told is undergoing a three year renovation, the works that have been done are sub standard and lacking in personality, so I can only hope that the next stage is better.

The stairs with no carpet meant that the noise level from our room was beyond irritating. We tried emailing and calling prior to our stay to ensure that the Chef was aware I was gluten free. No response, such poor service again, it takes seconds to answer an email.

The food was average, nothing like what we were expecting, limited choice, cold dining room and slow service due to lack of staff. I would recommend the Pierhouse or Eriska, both of which we have enjoyed.

The room itself had frayed curtains, crispy towels and although clean enough there was zero luxury.
We chatted to some other guests pre dinner in the lounge and the grumbles seemed unanimous. There were some regulars in at the time telling us about Airds in its glory day and we wish we could have visited then as we will not be back.

Reading one or two recent reviews, I feel some people have rather missed the point of The Airds hotel. This hotel is comfortable, charming, friendly and welcoming - the service is second to none: needs anticipated and nothing too much trouble. It’s not a slick 5 Star City hotel and therein lies its charm - we loved the early morning tea tray delivered to our room, so much nicer than making it yourself with one of those fiddly kettles! We also liked the slightly formal ethos of the Dining Room - how lovely to have something to dress up for after months and months of Lockdown! The food was delicious and beautifully presented, a different menu every day and we didn’t have a duff course in three nights. The setting is superb: glorious views, and the fine weather meant we could take advantage of the beautiful gardens. Thank You to all at Airds, you were recommended by friends and we in turn will be recommending you to others.

Thank you for your very kind review which was so appreciated by all the staff, who as you say are all working extremely hard to ensure that all guests have an enjoyable and relaxed stay with us. Hospitality is certainly going through difficult and challenging times and we are so lucky to have such tremendous staff who are giving their all at the moment. Thank you also for your kind recommendation and indeed we are so lucky to be situated in such an amazing location amongst the most stunning scenery. and it was great that the weather was so good that meant you could really get out and enjoy the area. Thank you also for your kind words about the food and we are lucky to have such a great chef. We do hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back soon. With best wishes, Shaun.

My stay at the Airds was fantastic. I was greeted by Robert the GM and the lovely girl showed me to my room - I wish I could remember her name but she was a star! In my room there was fresh fruit and a box of chocolates made by a local chocolatier - good touch! The view from my room overlooked the water and I got to enjoy that view when having my amazing breakfast the following morning. The dinner was out of this world and it makes the Airds hotel absolutely worth visiting and indulging. Had some nice after dinner treats and some tea in the cosy lounge area afterwards. I was treated incredibly well and the staff go above and beyond for you. Will definitely be back and recommending to my family and friends! Josh x

No. We were very disappointed to find that dogs are only allowed in a very small and narrow entrance hallway which they had referred to as a 'conservatory' at the time of booking. There are two large lounges but dogs are allowed in neither so it's your room or this lean-to with small coffee tables, hard chairs and the hotel's supply of wellies!! There is nowhere comfortable and warm to sit with your dog.
