Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon for four days, and I can just say this resort should get more credit. The scenery is just breath taking with the lake and mountains. I enjoyed the peaceful environment of this resort. The food was good, drinks were delicious. And the staff were amazing!! I feel this resort should be advertised more for its uniqueness from other typical resorts. I feel many people would enjoy this but perhaps are not aware of this beautiful place!! I would return for sure. I'd like to say thank you to everyone who made our stay wonderful, and keep up the good work!!!

Arrived here at end of a five day 240km cycle tour, the last 9km all uphill - the Cuba Libre and Bucaneros went down very well! Pool was cold, shower water lukewarm, very cold at night (duh, in the mountains) but nice to have the sound of crickets and bats flying around. I was ill overnight so didn't have much Breakfast, but didn't seem too appetising to the non-ill group members.

This 125-room hotel is located in very nice spot, the Sierra del Escambray mountains, over-looking a man-made, large lake. The guide books point out the utilitarian, soviet-style architecture of the hotel but it is better than some of its other forms across the country. Generally, our mid-week stay found the place to be quiet and peaceful. The pool was excellent. As part of a bike tour, decisions related to where to eat were made by our tour leader and he chose not to have our supper there but to go a short distance to the small town nearby using our bus where the food and service was excellent. Apparently, previous cycle tour groups were not pleased with what the hotel had to offer. Breakfast there was find though. I did a small walkabout as the sun was falling and evening

Good clean hotel in a wonderful lake and mountain setting. Quite a relief to have some cooler night air compared to the Caribbean coastal heat. Plumbing is a bit of an issue but otherwise this well maintained soviet inspired hotel from the 1950s was a pleasant experience. Friendly bar staff.

If you want to visit the Habanilla lake, this is the place to go. Lots of excursions from there. Waterfalls, fishing, trekking etc. Habanilla is a vacation place for cubans. You will not find many tourists there but will feel at home. Staff is super friendly but this remains Cuba. Hence do not expect the elevator or internet to work. Rooms are clean and very simple. There's a bit of an old sovietic side to this hotel and that's part of its charm.

My wife and I stayed here Feb 25 & 26 as part of a cycling tour of Western Cuba. The room was average; we had 2 twin beds and found them firm. The pool is excellent; it looks out upon the lake and there is a convenient pool bar with service. We found the breakfast buffett a little lacking in variety. Excellent eggs were offered, as in most other properties in Cuba. I was ill for a 24 hour period here, and I have to say that the hotel staff were excellent. There is a 24 hour nurse on staff and I was attended to by 2 different nurses. One brought a doctor from the local community to our room to examine me. The staff were very helpful and considerate. I have to compliment Orlando, the lifeguard and paramedic at the hotel, who even brewed me some tea to help my digestion.

Once more we fell in love with this fresh water lake. Rooms are clean. Food is decent and inexpensive. We did shift the beds to the opposite wall, cause we kept hitting our heads on the wall suspended TV on the way to and from the balcony. The music at the pool did not seem as loud, and they even turned it off for us when we were the only group there. The people who live around there are friendly and kind. We have met a few. There is a restaurant in the hotel for dinner, and a local place for a night out - very reasonable, about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. Delicious meals for $8 CUC each. (Hotel restaurant has meals for as low as $4 cuc each.) To say it is not crowded there is an understatement. We found places to swim away from the boating dock (wear water shoes,

Spend two nights at this hotel. Food basic and healthy -which we like. Service staff very friendly and helpful. Bedroom very comfortable, clean with a beautiful view. Went fishing with a guide for large mouth bass. What a great day to spend on the water. Caught many fish, which we released. Lunch at the Rio Negro restaurant perched atop the shoreline in the middle of the lake. It seemed like we had the whole lake to ourselves. If you like solitude this is the place to be at. Loved every minute of our two night stay at this hotel. Will definitely return and also take in more hiking.

This is another Soviet-style hotel in the mountains, but with a superb view of Lake Hanabanilla beyond the pool. This is a great place to relax with a beer by the pool, and you can even take a boat ride round the lake. It has a fascinating concrete labyrinth for children to play in. We didn't dine here, but at a nearby paladar the other side of the dam. The rooms were spacious and clean, and mine was on the ground floor overlooking the pool, and the lake beyond.
