Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Important - Campamento Torres is now available only by advance reservation

Campamento Torres is the free campground run by CONAF which is nearest to the Torres Mirador. This is the campground that you want to be in if you are going to get up before dawn to hike up for sunrise at the Mirador.

Since January 2015, it is available only by reservation. At the time of this writing, you could reserve in Puerto Natales, or either of the park's two entrances

Campamento Torres is one of the free CONAF campgrounds in Torres Del Paine. It is the closest of the campsites to the towers (45 minute hike), being around 1.5-2 hours from El Chileno. Most elect to camp here so that they can get up at ridiculous hours of the morning for the 'sunrise' pictures of the Towers of Paine. I didn't do this but that was because I went up in the afternoon. This is the beauty of staying here - it gives you two shots at the pie (later afternoon then early morning) in case weather gets in the way.

The campsite is very basic which is to be expected as it is free. It's located along a small stream around 1 minute walk from the trail leading up to the towers. There was a few toilets located around 5 minutes walk away - of which 1 of the 4 worked. No showers. Very small area undercover area for eating but it was filthy due to it's inhabitants. There was a rather amusing sign there which summed it up well "Please take your garbage with you. How many languages do I have to write it in. For you. To get it."

In relation to the 'reservation' side of things. This campsite is quite small and so they encourage people to reserve in advance. This can be done at the entrance to the national park - although when we attempted to do this the bloke just said all the campsites were full and he wasn't going to issue us a ticket. Here is what you do. It is actually illegal for the park rangers to send you away from a campsite if you arrive later than the times the trails close. You will get the closing times on the bottom right hand corner of the map of Torres Del Paine, that you'll be given when you purchase your ticket. Just arrive after this and you will get a spot. Luckily we were able to 'reserve' at the 'full' campsite at Italiano so didn't have to test this theory.

The campsite being run by Fantastico Sur is unfortunately way overpriced for the service and facilities provided! There is NO shelter (and rain is common in this area), and the facilities look old, are damaged or partly not working. After all, the price being charged is ridiculous, it seems the preference is on the money-spanding lodge tourists much more than on trekkers and backpackers. A shame!

The campsite was ok. We don't know how much it costs to stay there because we had an advanced booking (we rented a Yurd). The sanitation needs some updating and maybe a bit bigger. It was not so crowed when we went there but sometimes it was very busy (I guess in highseason it can only be worse). Do bring your own food with you because the little shop it very very expensive !! They just charge you for every little thing at least 2000 Pesos.
