We had a fantastic night in Waipu at the Waipu Clansman Motel. The hosts were lovely and the restaurant was very classy. Pipers (the restaurant at the motel) was a very welcome haven after travelling all day and the menu boasts a small but well thought-out collection of all that New Zealand is good at - our best meats and seafood. The unit we stayed in had plush carpet, spacious bathroom with separate toilet, separate bedroom with 2 beds and a queen bed in the lounge, a well equipped kitchen. I'm coming back for a longer stay and to enjoy the hospitality again. Thanks Waipu Clansman Motel :)

I stayed at the Waipu Clansman at a very stressful time and was blown away by how helpful the staff were to me - they went above and beyond the call of duty to help me out and I really appreciated it. The restaurant food was nice too!

In March this year, my husband and I took ourselves up to Waipu for a three night retreat from being swamped by visits from three different branches of our family at the same time. After enjoying their excited company for a week, with two more weeks to go, we oldies felt the need for some quiet time, and left the young ones for a long weekend on our own. We decided on Waipu as it seemed a quiet little country town and one we had only passed through. Waipu did not disappoint in any way, the town was lovely, the surrounding were magnificent, with the gorgeous waterfall and beautiful beaches within a short drive in either direction and the little Township sported a greatly interesting little museum. The locals were friendly and the Clansman Motel was clean, comfortable, convenient and reasonably priced. This motel comes complete with it's own restraunt , which serves good food in a nice atmosphere, but as it is on the first floor, stairs are involved. However, there are plenty of other local restraints handy and the motel unit we had came complete with a fully kitted kitchen. We had a fantastic three days exploring this lovely town and fully recommend it and the Clansman before Waipu turns into just another suburb of greater Auckland.

Stayed 2 nights while visiting for a wedding. 4 min walk to the town centre. Lots of space, clean and a friendly host. The restaurant food is wicked. Try the snapper! Divine. Hubby had the angus beef and loved it. Totally recommend this motel. Less than 15 min drive to the beach.

Stayed at Waipu Clansman Motel for 4 nights. On arrival I was pleasantly surprised! Newly renovated room - new carpet, paint work, furniture, refrigerator that kept our ice cream frozen! The bathroom was also upgraded. Immaculate, clean and crisp. Maria (the owner) was lovely and took a genuine interest in 'us'. She was very helpful and actually cared if we were enjoying our stay (ie, did we need anything or had questions she could answer). Maria was also knowledgeable about the local area/community. Close to town and beach - walk to town (5 min) - drive to beach (10 min?). I understand that there is an on site cook and meals are available if you have a room without a kitchenette. We had a kitchenette and cooked which saved us eating out each night - it was great for our family of four. The room was also quiet... I just thought I'd mention that, as in my opinion a quite room is just as important as cleanliness. I was also pleased at how reasonable it was to stay - great value for money. I would highly recommend you stay at the Clansman Motel and will stay there again if the opportunity arises. Heaps of activities to do in and around Waipu - could have stayed another two - three days. Would recommend all the walks, Museum (educational and interesting) and Adventure Forest - all ***** (5 stars). Lastly, there's a great bakery in town, on the main street with 'yummy' reasonably priced food.

Super comfortable and newly renovated, immaculate and clean, great value for your dollar, close to town and all the amenities with friendly helpful owners & staff. What more could you need! My family and I were heading to Auckland from Cape Reinga and were tired and needed a stop over. We thought to stop in Whangarei but upon arrival didnt want to be in amongst all the traffic and mayhem so decided to continue on. Soo glad we did!!! The Waipu Clansman was FANTASTIC and is worth the slight 8 minute de-tour off the main highway. We will certainly be using this motel again only next time we're staying longer.

Although nice people to deal with, the room was a sorry disappointment. The smell of mold struck us as soon as we walked in, despite the open windows. The room wasn't particularly clean, with dust in the corners and a (fortunately) dead cockroach on the bedside table. The website advertised that breakfast was included, but we were told, sorry that wasn't so. A sign up the road said restaurant open 7 days - but that wasn't so either.
