The Nunnery is a new guest accommodation alternative in Te Aroha. Te Aroha is becoming a popular tourist destination due mainly to its mineral spa pools, bush walks and mountain bike tracks. The Nunnery is within easy walking distance to the tourist attractions, shops, restaurants, hotels and clubs. It is a brick building built in 1977 to house The Sisters of Mercy. Present owners, local people Paul Herbert and Denise Andersen, bought it in 2008 and in November 2009 it was opened for guest accommodation. We have one semi-detached studio unit which is proving very popular. With Air-conditioning, en-suite, flat screen television, toast, tea & coffee making facilities, fridge/freezer. In the main accommodation wing we have 3 double and 2 single bedrooms. These bedrooms have wash basins and heat pumps and have access to a guest lounge, kitchenette and deck. Full Breakfast or Continental available on request. The Nunnery also has ample off street parking and boasts spacious grounds.

Denise was a pleasure to deal with and we felt welcome before we had even arrived! Our self contained unit was very well set up with everything we needed. Clean, tidy and nicely decorated. Thank you for our stay and we are very happy to recommend The Nunnery. Ross and Penny

We chose here while doing the Hauraki Rail Trail. Great location one block from main street, Host just lovely, and gave us a little history on the building. Rooms tastefully decorated, had small shared lounge, kitchen, deck and large private grounds. We look forward to coming back.

This is really a de luxe backpackers’ hostel/motel with a small, comfortable, double room with en suite. Basic but sufficient, very clean and tidy. Good location and good value. Recommended. Don’t just come again, make it a habit.

Denise was the perfect host. The Nunnery is spotlessly clean and the rooms are beautifully decorated. Top quality beds, bedding and towels. Our bikes were safely stored. This B and B is very close to town and the hot pools. It is very good value for money. I would definitely return

We are trying to vary our family holidays so our children (two 12 year olds and one 10 year old), will see as much of NZ as possible. We particularly like to holiday in the less touristy spots, and Te Aroha fitted the bill for these holidays.
We found out about the Nunnery from friends, who are related to the owners, Paul and Denise. Judging by the guest book, others have found Paul and Denise the same as we did - excellent hosts.
It is a b & b, although we went with the bed option and took breakfast with us. The rooms are lovely and clean, airy and - most important given the cold snap - warm!
The Nunnery is handy to the highlights of Te Aroha - the Domain, the hot pools, and some surprisingly excellent cafes for a small town (we sampled coffee from Banco, the Domain cafe and Ironique and it was all good).
Denise and Paul know everything there is to know about Te Aroha, so could always send us in the right direction.
Unfortunately, the weather was pretty bad during our visit - but the children took advantage of the school grounds next door to shoot hoops and let off steam, and we were able to have a relaxing break.
I recommend The Nunnery for a peaceful breakaway and a great base for exploring the region.

We were here for a family weekend (3 adult children with two partners, and us - married couple). Denise our host was very welcoming and great to deal with. The rooms were just as we expected, warm, clean and welcoming. We had booked out the whole accommodation wing so we had the lounge all to ourselves. Te Aroha is a great place for a weekend with lots to do if you are active people.

Can't really fault The Nunnery, it's a lovely place to stay in beautiful Te Aroha - comfortable and spotless, with large, lush grounds surrounding it. We were lucky enough to sample quite a lot of the seasonal fruit :) The best aspect of our stay would have to be the owner, Denise, who was not only welcoming and warm, but very accomodating of our needs. We ended up staying a lot longer than we'd originally expected to, and I doubt that would have happened if she wasn't the lovely person that she is!
