We had a lovely stay here. The staff are all very welcoming, especially Dimitris who works at the pool bar. He is such a character always smiling and he makes the best cocktails. We love Rhodes and the people and always enjoy ourselves when we holiday there.

we arrived the the ziakis hotel and apartments on the 13th aug on a TUI late deal, the accomodation is overlooking the town of pefkos and its about a ten minute walk to the beach/ main strip. its a in an elevated position but the stunning views of pefkos bay make it well worth the walk back up after a night in town. taxi will cost 4 to 6 euro if needed. the appartments are very clean as is the whole complex . pool area gardens bar etc. the food served at the bar is good and a reasonably priced. pint of mythos is 4€ hotel average. cheaper at some bars down the strip. the staff are nice people and very helpfull. i think they are mostly family. our self catering apartment was spacious enough with a small balcony. table two chairs. cleaners were regular and good. couple of wee niggles about the room ! no toaster or microwave is odd for a s/c. the shower head is not attached to the wall, but on the plus side free air con and free safe. small shop on site with basics. if the accomodation came up at a good price again i would definatley stay here again. all together we had a great experiance here and loved every minute. pefkos is larger than most people think, its got lots of nice eating places good cocktail bars and not to expensive. the people are very friendly and the whole place feels very safe. i hope this helps anyone planning a trip here.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 week. What a climb back to the hotel after walking down to the beach!!! We did it twice then sensibly got either a taxi back or a bus which dropped us off at the very top of the hill. We knew from previous comments that the hotel was high up so we were prepared. The reception staff were lovely but we were disappointed with the cleaning staff. After 3 days we left a tip hoping that they would clean our room properly - sink and shower not cleaned for the 1st 3 days, floors not cleaned properly - but that only lasted 1 day!! I think for that reason we would not stay here again but definitely would return to Pefkos. I would have given this hotel 5 star if not for the cleaning staff. We didn’t eat in the hotel but could not see a proper menu. We didn’t use the pool, which looked gorgeous, as we prefer the beach when it’s so hot but it looked nice and clean. Rooms were quiet, bed comfortable but no TV. I didn’t mind that but my husband did.

We arrived late on a Saturday and were shown to our room by the night staff member Aldo, who made sure we had everything we wanted, and then made us a pizza - which we were very impressed with! They also kept the shop open for us, and those arriving after us, so we could buy water and any other essentials we needed, although they had kindly left us some water in the fridge. We had room 402 which was a ground floor large double, with the most amazing sea/sunset views and down over Pefkos, and a good sized balcony. The room was good, and most importantly - spotlessly clean. It could perhaps do with a freshen-up over the off-season, but the cleaning was faultless - in rooms, pool and public areas. We had pre-purchased breakfast and that was available from 9-12 every day, which gave us the flexibility to have it as breakfast, or as an early lunch - which we appreciated. Excellent value for money. The food (attentively served by Stravros, and cooked by his Mum Anna) was outstanding, and the choice was varied and plentiful. Nothing was too much trouble, and she is an amazing cook. We hadn't realised that food and the pool bar was available all day and the menu was large - with Salads, gyro's, sandwiches, omlettes, crepes - all beautifully prepared (and very generous portions) served by Stravro and his Mum. After 5pm when Aldo (night staff) came on, the choice was more limited (pizza, chips, etc) but again very well made & tasty, and Aldo was very affable and happy to knock something together for you - and kept the bar open until gone midnight. The prices were very reasonable, and excellent value for money for both food and drink (Milo Kleptis - Greek Cider) being a personal favourite! The owner Stella and her husband are older, and only have a limited grasp on English, so I can understand that some people may be frustrated if they have an issue. Her daughter was there when we checked in so it wasn't a problem. But even if there had been, both Stavros and Aldo spoke fluent English, and were happy to translate if there were any queries. I found Stella and her elderly husband quite endearing, and her English was about as good as my Greek, but we both gave it a go... : ) Also, the TUI rep Chris was there twice a day should you have any queries on where to go or how to get there. I would say if you have mobility issues that this may not be the hotel for you as there is a steep 20 foot walk up to the road, and then a 20 minute walk into Pefkos, but this can be shortened by taking the 'goat track' that shaved 10 minutes off, that we all used - but it wouldn't be for anyone with mobility problems. Otherwise you can get a taxi into/back from town for 5 Euro's, but we didn't need one and enjoyed the walk. We found the relaxed, chilled vibe of Pefkos exactly what we wanted, and the weather was 27c every day (in October) which was perfect for us. At the end of the day we would sit out on our balcony and look out at the twinkling lights of Pefkos, Lardos and down the south coast of the Rhodes and be very glad we chose the Ziakis - as you were up above the hustle and bustle of town - and that view... We got the local bus to Lindos for the day, and took the TUI transfer to Rhodes Town. The church of St Elias (up above the Ziakis - by the cross) was an amazing place for a sunset (a lot of steps!) and Kavos Beach (a 15 minute walk) was stunning. On Kavos Beach there were only around 20 umbrella's on the narrow strip of sand, great place for snorkelling, and 14 Euro's got you two beds and an umbrella, two cold waters, wifi and you were able to order food/drink from Amfialos restuarant above you, and they would deliver it down to you in an ice bucket! Wow! Amfialos Restuarant was also the most amazing place to eat for lunch or dinner too. Tsambikos restaurant and bakery, and the Karma Bar were two other favourite eating places in Pefkos. We hired a car for the day (organised by Chris the TUI rep) for £35 (inclusive) which was great value and meant we could explore the southern end of the Island, and have a really good look around. Some area's of the Ziakis do need a bit of TLC - some pool umbrella's were torn, some rust marks on the floor and some cupboards could do with straightening in the kitchen area, however everywhere was spotless, with Stella overseeing all aspects of the running of the hotel, flawlessly. Considering the overall price of this 11 day holiday, including breakfast, was £409pp it was absolutely outstanding. We loved the small, personal feel to this hotel (sometimes we would go up to the shop and Stella's husband had fallen asleep in the chair, so we would quietly tiptoe away and come back later... :) It felt personable, and personal. We felt we knew the staff and they knew us. You won't find a better sunset than from here, the area is perfect and the people friendly - and we are already making plans to go back again next year. We loved it!

Apologies in advance for the length of this review… I have just returned from an 11 night stay at the Ziakis Hotel and generally had a great time. In summary I would say that the hotel is in overall terms not bad at all but with one major issue: the owners are very rude and unfriendly! I will give a specific example below but when I am so used to visiting Greece and finding everyone so hospitable this was highly disappointing and means that I would not use this hotel again. Having said that, it had its good points and for the sake of a balanced review I shall focus on the good points as well as the bad ones. I will not go into great detail about Pefkos itself except to say that it was our first visit and will definitely not be the last: it has a nice, relaxed vibe, beautiful beaches and tavernas/restaurants of a uniformly high standard (I will shortly be writing reviews for some of these but our favourites were Artemis, Greek Story and Anixis). It’s a lovely place and we have fallen in love with it. You should be aware, however, that on the main beach (Lee Beach), the cost of hiring two sun loungers and one umbrella was 20-25 Euros which is ridiculously expensive so this may influence how much time you decide to spend on the beach. When we first arrived at the hotel we were a little bit surprised by the welcome or, should I say, lack of, it from an elderly man and a lady called Stella who appeared to speak very little English and were not at all friendly. I would say at the outset that we are not “Brits Abroad” who arrogantly assume that the locals should all be fluent in our language but in a hotel where the vast majority of its clientele are British you would expect the front of house people to have at least a rudimentary knowledge of English so as to allow them to have a basic conversation and to deal with simple queries/requests, which they did not. That in itself was not a huge deal but a little smile and a simple “kalimera” when we passed by in the morning would not have done any harm! It would also have helped considerably not to have been subjected to the rudeness on our last day which I will describe below. Apart from the above, initial impressions were that this was quite a nice hotel. The room was fairly basic but clean and had everything we needed (except maybe a toaster would have been nice). The bed was comfortable and air conditioning and a safety were included which was welcome. We had a sea view room and the balcony enjoyed stunning views of the village and beach below. Particularly beautiful was the sunset which we made a point of sitting outside to enjoy every evening. The bathroom, again, was basic (with a hand held shower fitting) but was clean and served its purpose. The accommodation, in summary, is perfectly adequate but I would say that three stars is a slightly generous rating. A kettle which worked more than intermittently would have been good but after getting no joy with Stella over this we decided to put up with it. The swimming pool is pleasant and a decent size for the hotel. The pool area had plenty of sun loungers/parasols with a pergola and chairs at one end to sit and enjoy the view. The one thing I thought was odd was that there was no pool bar as such. It was possible to buy drinks in the pool area but this involved walking into the kitchen area to order them. Probably due to this and the lack of atmosphere, there was never more than a handful of people in the pool area during the evening. I believe that an investment in a proper pool bar (ideally a swim-up one) would make the pool area much more appealing and would benefit the hotel considerably. We had lunch and breakfast at the pool area on some occasions and the food was good. The pool/kitchen staff were also considerably friendlier than Stella and the elderly man (who, we later learned, are the owners of the hotel and should know better!). Unfortunately for us, there were some quite noisy people round the pool which soon put us off staying there during the day so we actually spent most of our time using another hotel’s pool and facilities. It is worth knowing that many hotels in Pefkos openly welcome you to use their pool and sun loungers with the implied understanding that you might buy their food and drinks. There is a small shop in the hotel which sells basic provisions. Although it is run by the unfriendly elderly gentleman, it is quite useful as the other nearest shops are down the hill so quite a trek. It was also quite expensive but, to be fair, none of the supermarkets in Pefkos were much cheaper. It should be borne in mind that Pefkos is generally quite an expensive place. The location of the hotel at the top of a steep hill has been well documented elsewhere and it is fair to say that it is not for everyone. Having said that, it is great for burning off those excess calories after dinner! We did walk up the hill once during the (hot) late afternoon but that was a bit of a killer, particularly with me carrying bottles of water: never again! A taxi would have been a better option at 6 Euros from the village centre. The goat track is a very worthwhile short cut but it is a tricky surface to walk on so I recommend wearing suitable shoes (e.g. trainers) and using a torch at night as it is unlit. On the last morning of our holiday we decided to dispense with the trainers which was a mistake as my wife slipped over and twisted her ankle: be warned! On our last day, we were flying out in the evening but we were able to keep the room until 6 pm for a cost of 40 Euros which seemed quite reasonable and the ability to go back and freshen up/get changed after a day in the sun was great. However, after we had left our room and were in reception waiting for our transfer Stella loudly and rudely (and incorrectly) accused us of keeping our room beyond the agreed time...or at least I think so as she was shouting at me (in front of other guests) mostly in Greek. When I told her, remaining polite the whole time, that I did not understand what she was saying she just shouted louder, as though the issue was my hearing! At that point our transfer arrived so I had to cut the conversation short and left. Obviously, there was no “have a safe journey” or “thank you for staying with us”, etc. It would have been tempting to see the funny side of this exchange (in a Fawlty Towers kind of way) but actually it left a very sour taste in the mouth at the end of what had been a very enjoyable holiday and my wife was upset about it. My advice to Stella is that if, as she appears to, she hates dealing with people so much she should either retire or step back and allow someone with a modicum of people skills to act as the “face” of the hotel! I am actually quite surprised to read some other reviews which describe her as friendly and welcoming. This can only mean (a) end of season fatigue, (b) overwork/stress or (c) she took a dislike to us. Whatever the case, there was no excuse for the downright rude and unprofessional way in which she spoke to a paying guest. We will definitely return to Pefkos….but to another hotel. In fact we have already booked and are already counting down the days to next September!

Just returned from 11 days at Ziakis Hotel. We weren’t given a warm welcome when we arrived and, in fact, found the owner, Stella, to be very rude. She shouted at us on the last day when she wrongly accused us of vacating our room later than agreed! She doesn’t speak much English but a little courtesy and friendliness would have gone a long way. A lovely pool area with stunning views, particularly at sunset. However, is missing a pool bar. Rooms basic but adequate and clean. We were lucky to have a sea view.

Very basic accommodation. No tv in room and not possible to phone reception and get an answer which was necessary to us. Bathroom needs updating, shower inadequate. Clean, and friendly staff. Pool area pleasant. But too far out of Pefkos for 70+ guests so we had to use taxis the whole time which adds up over 9 days. Internet spasmodic at best. Not possible to get much to eat after 5pm.
