I’ll try and keep it quick.
Details: January 6th – January 13th, 2024. Family of 4 (2 teenagers). Joining family rooms were AWESOME for the kids, and us. Privacy!
***USE GOLF CARTS TO GET AROUND – THIS RESORT(S) IS HUGE***
-Arrival: Slow, took 45min to check in…only 4 people in front of us. 3 reception desks. After a 14-hr travel day due to delays etc, we were tired and hungry. NOT the time for them to try and get everyone to book dinners for a week, and excursions. Fernando was very nice, just bad timing.
-Grounds: “Gorgeous” does not do it justice. From the perfect maintained grounds to all the exotic animals, clean pools and beach (no weed issues!), the resorts appearance is 5 Star.
-Staff: AMAZING. ZERO issues, always a smile and HOLA. 5 Star staff
-Nightly Entertainment: “OK”.
-Pool entertainment: Awesome
-Food: This is tricky…
Buffet’s …very good selection for breakfast/lunch and suppers. Lots to chose from. Issue, most is cold, warm at best. Very few “heat lamps”. Taste was quite good for most things but better if hot. Hard to eat cold eggs for breakfast or cold bacon.
Restaurants: BIGGEST ISSUE ON THIS RESORT, and why I want to give it less than 5 stars, ALMOST EVERYWHERE the food is NOT hot! Often quite cold. Tough to eat cold meat! The taste is OK…not great. My wife’s Filet Mignon was literally COLD from the Italian Restaurant. COLD! Orderd off the menu as one of our three allowed Restaurant meals. The American Restaurant was quite good. Italian “meh”. We went to the American one twice…kids liked it, and we liked that the food was hot.
Advice: Make sure you find the Burger and Taco place early in your stay…“at the shopping mall” as they call it. Best food on the resort and HOT every time.
Burger/Taco stands on the beach and throughout are quite good for quick food. Again, the SHOPPING MALL BURGERS & TACOS place are the best
You’ll never go hungry. Lots of options from 6am-2am I think it is. Just a temperature issues…taste for Mexico is “OK”.
No reusable cups! Bring your own ie: Gatorade bottles for water refill…CLEAN and good tasting water on the entire resort. Tastes great, filtered.
In closing…the food issue makes this less than a 5 Star. But EVERYTHING else to us was 5 Star (we don’t care about the nightly entertainment). I would love to give it 4.5 Stars, but I can’t. I will give it a 5 but with an * beside it. For the price we stayed, we were happy and enjoyed our week!
Just buy some heat lamps guys! For the buffet’s and ESPECIALLY for the Restaurants. We are not hard to please, but HOT food is important

We were there from Feb 17 to 24. Not long enough! Our room was well appointed, loved the changes they have made for environmental reasons. They gave large dispensers of body wash, shampoo, conditioner and lotion in the bathroom. These are refillable and organic to boot! As previous reviews have stated, there are water dispensers on each floor and 2 glass bottles per room to fill. Recommend bringing your own refillable water bottle for beach, excursions etc. We bring our bubbas for drinks. No straws, which is great. Beach is super clean, did see a few cigarette butts, which is unacceptable as there were plenty of containers with sand in them for disposing of butts. Beach was great for swimming, not many rocks, and the sand was super soft and white. Food was great, Service was excellent! Denisse at concierge desk - fabulous. Actually, all staff we dealt with there were super. Pool - all I can say is WOW! I’ve never seen anything like it! Just beautiful 😊. The Iberostar resort itself is extremely well maintained, and run. We have been to the Iberostar in Rose Hall, Jamaica three times, and because of the excellent experience we had there each time, we chose this resort in Riviera Maya. It was well worth every penny we spent, and we would highly recommend to anyone!! Iberostar - each and every one of your staff should be commended on a job well done!! Thanks so much for making our holiday great and we hope to see you again soon!

We picked this resort for our first ever family vacation! We went as a group including spouses, boyfriend/girlfriends, grandparents, and grand children.
Lobby:
The resort is well lit, clean, and well staffed. Since we have children with us, it was very important for us to have a safe environment.
We were very pleased with the layout of the resort. everything was an open concept layout so we were able to sit & enjoy while the children explored the immediate area.
Pool:
The pool area is huge! it's largely divided into 2 separate areas: Quiet, Party.
The quiet area has lounge chair along the side of the pool. At the end, there's a cave like structure with a bubble (not hot tub) tub in the middle.
The party area has many lounge chairs, and cabanas. There's 2 ping pong tables by the towel exchange.
In the middle of the pools are the bars. They serve all your drinks here. There's even an ice cream bar in the same area.
Beach:
The beach is just beyond the pool area. There's a beach snack bar where they have the basics (hot dogs, burgers, nachos, french fries, fruits, and a soft serve machine).
There's plenty of beach chairs and cabanas.
We easily spent 5hrs a day right on the beach.
Buffets:
Locations: main lobby. 2 buffets between the beach and pool serving different types of food.
There's also a beach snack bar.
Food Selection:
Plenty of food with tons of variety. They change up the buffet item daily. Although, there's options for all dietary restrictions.
Staff:
everyone on the resort was friendly. the staff have the perfect balance of providing great service but giving you your privacy.
They all spoke English and same were fluent in multiple languages (one guy was fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Dutch!)
If you ask any one for anything, they will be able to help you out or call someone to help.
Room:
The room was cleaned everyday, beds made, and amenities refreshed. These rooms do not have that musky smell typical of all inclusives.
Amenities include:
- body wash, hair wash, conditioner, lotion,

We recently returned to an Iberostar hotel, this one just south of Cancun Airport. The trip from airport to hotel is short! My husband and I were there with two grandkids (ages 1 and 4) and their parents. The food in the buffet restaurants and speciality restaurants was great. The staff was super accommodating to the needs of our family (running to get a high chair, ensuring everything was wiped clean in front of us).
The pool areas are terrific and the beach has lovely white sand. There is a small pool especially for babies which our little one loved. We didn’t participate in pool activities at this resort but there was lots of fun stuff going on all the time.
We belong to RCI so took advantage of time in the CLUB members’ lounge and seating areas at beach. Samanya (our concierge) and her team as well as the lounge bartenders (e.g., Ernesto) were super nice and helpful. Samanya gave us tons of great ideas when my husband came down with a wicked cold. The bartenders always made sure the kids had refreshments such as fresh berries and baked goods. It was like we were guests in their home. Because we had to make sure the kids got to bed on time, we didn’t take advantage of the nightly entertainment which starts at 9:30 PM. Recommend to families.
NOTE: There are ashtrays throughout the resort. I suppose it is a way to get smokers to ‘Butt out’ properly (e.g., not leave the butts on the ground) and to a great level, this indeed works. However, I would prefer ‘smoking areas.’ There were a few smoking areas around but people can actually smoke wherever they want. As a non-smoker not used to this, I didn’t love being near smoke as much as we were.
The pool areas are terrific and the beach has lovely white sand. There is a small pool especially for babies which our little one loved. We didn’t participate in pool activities at this resort but there was lots of fun stuff going on all the time.

We just returned from 2 weeks at the Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar, this being our 5th time at this resort. We love so much about this resort, but there are some things the management could do to make it better.
1. Reservations: Last year when we arrived we were told they had no rooms for us, although we had made reservations 6 months earlier and our names were on the list for the free shuttle from the airport. We contacted our representative and they gave us rooms. This year we had a different problem on arrival. We had reserved one room with a king bed and one room with 2 double beds. We were told that both rooms had a king bed. This would not work for us, as our relatives were not able to share a bed. We were told they would put a cot in the room. There is no way that we should pay this money and sleep on a cot for 2 weeks. It may work for a child but not for an adult senior citizen. With some pressure they agreed to change the room for one with 2 beds beginning on the third night. I understand that a hotel cannot guarantee a particular building or a particular floor, but they must guarantee our choice of bed. The two nights on a cot were very difficult.
2. Smoking policy: As others have mentioned, the hotel needs to be more restrictive on smoking. Thankfully smoking is not permitted in the rooms and restaurants, but other than that it is permitted. People are smoking in the lobby, at the theater, at the pool, and in other common areas. I spoke to the pool concierge about this, and I was told that the hotel cannot restrict smoking outside. Yet we have stayed at many other resorts where it is not permitted at the pool. Iberostar should at least have smoking and non-smoking areas at the pool so that those who do not smoke don't have to breathe it in. It just takes one person smoking to ruin the experience for all of the non-smokers sitting in the same area. Please follow what other resorts are doing and restrict smoking.
3. Prestige Club: There is too much pressure placed on us to join the Prestige Club which costs thousands of dollars. Nearly every time that I spoke to a concierge to reserve a restaurant the person would bring it up. It is totally acceptable to make us aware that it exists, but please accept no for an answer.
We absolutely love everything else about this resort. The food is excellent, the rooms are comfortable, the grounds are immaculate, and the pool is amazing. The entertainment staff are consistently the best, doing everything they can to help us to enjoy our vacation. Thank you Giovanni, Carlos, Javier, Lolli, Leslie and Katia. Also, thank you to Ausel at the towel counter, who is always smiling and friendly. We hope to see all of you again next year!

I understand that a hotel cannot guarantee a particular building or a particular floor, but they must guarantee our choice of bed. The two nights on a cot were very difficult.
2. Smoking policy: As others have mentioned, the hotel needs to be more restrictive on smoking. Thankfully smoking is not permitted in the rooms and restaurants, but other than that it is permitted. People are smoking in the lobby, at the theater, at the pool, and in other common areas. I spoke to the pool concierge about this, and I was told that the hotel cannot restrict smoking outside. Yet we have stayed at many other resorts where it is not permitted at the pool. Iberostar should at least have smoking and non-smoking areas at the pool so that those who do not smoke don't have to breathe it in. It just takes one person smoking to ruin the experience for all of the non-smokers sitting in the same area. Please follow what other resorts are doing and restrict smoking.
3. Prestige Club: There is too much pressure placed on us to join the Prestige Club which costs thousands of dollars. Nearly every time that I spoke to a concierge to reserve a restaurant the person would bring it up. It is totally acceptable to make us aware that it exists, but please accept no for an answer.
We absolutely love everything else about this resort. The food is excellent, the rooms are comfortable, the grounds are immaculate, and the pool is amazing. The entertainment staff are consistently the best, doing everything they can to help us to enjoy our vacation. Thank you Giovanni, Carlos, Javier, Lolli, Leslie and Katia. Also, thank you to Ausel at the towel counter, who is always smiling and friendly. We hope to see all of you again next year!

We stayed with our family for one week and had a great time. Everyone who worked there was extremely helpful and friendly. The room was clean, the food was fantastic, and the facilities were exceptional. I like to work out while I'm on holidays and was pleasantly surprised at the fitness facilities available onsite. New equipment and a good variety of machines and free weights.
We only had a couple of complaints. We tried to arrange for a laundry pick-up as our boys were running low on clean clothes in the 2nd half of the week. We were told it was confirmed but no one ever showed up to drop off the laundry bag. We followed up a couple of times and were assured it would be taken care of, but this request seemed to fall by the wayside. We ended up doing a small wash in the sink of our hotel room. The check-in process could also stand to be improved. We arrived pretty early in the morning and we fully expected to wait for our room to be ready for us. After a few hours of wandering around the resort I asked the front desk staff if there was a way for us to be notified via call or text once our room was ready. This request seemed to confuse them and they instead recommended installing the Iberostar app. I installed the app but we never received a notification. I ended up going back to the front desk for an update where they replied that yes, our room was now ready. The Iberostar app is a good idea but the information on it wasn't very helpful. The restaurant times listed were frequently wrong and I think it would be a great idea to have a function that would notify guests when their rooms would be ready for check in.
We didn't know there would be opportunities to book tours through the hotel, but we found that out once we got onsite. We took part in a couple of offsite tours and thoroughly enjoyed them. Perhaps it would be beneficial to make that service known somehow when you're making your hotel booking.
Outside of those issues, we highly recommend this location for families and anyone looking to get pampered on a relaxing holiday.

Great place, wonderful. wonderful ,wonderful staff. they made your trip amazing, went out of their way to please, where to start...the food was amazing, enjoyed the buffett, shrimp. steak. roasted pork,along with everything else at breakfast, and beach resturant, hamburgers, hot dogs nachos, and fruit, everyday at the beach, along with great drinks.there was shops to purchase items right on the resort, also we loved the mall ,where you can purchase souviners, and the resturants in the mall were all free, there was also a casino. tacos, and burger place,and the cafe which offered ice cappichinos and beautiful pastries, all included. they had places for children of all ages up to 17 years, all in seperate buildings, the pool ran the length of the resort with lots of places for quite and activities, the nighly shows were great, huge area with bar and no shortage of staff to get you a drink, you wont be disappointed with this resort, kids and adults had a great time. we were quite impressed with the refillable water bottles and filtered water stations on every floor of your resort, you just had to walk out your door to get fresh ,filtered water. bottles of beer, soda of all kinds in your mini fridge.

We are here now and staying until May 6. We are in a Jr Suite building 1100. Units start at 1000 on the beach and go toward the lobby to 2000’s. Our balcony faces the pool which is nice because it’s close but the music starts at 8 and goes till 6. It’s loud and party noise which is ok for a bit but not constant thumping. Would like to hear the nature a little. The pools are very nice and huge. We found a quite pool area by units 1500 that have free covered shelters with 2 chairs and a end table. Gotta get there by 730 to get one…Breakfast buffets are good. But the only options for breakfast are up by the lobby and this place is big so it’s a hike up there from our location anyway. The transportation carts do run back and forth but not real regular so walk or wait. The grounds are well maintained. Always cleaning them and little to no trash around. Have not had any issues with our room, bugs, outside, rude staff etc. they do a great job and all we’ve come in contact with are nice. The food area are clean and wide variety. So far The Colonial has been the best for us. The beach is nice. There is a food/bar area down there and Lots of chairs on the beach. They are working hard at keeping the beach clean of seaweed. It’s coming in now and a lot. Some restaurant’s are closed for renovations were told but not a problem for us. They are working hard a eco friendly. Drinking water is supplied and 2 large refillable containers are in the room. No touch Filling statins for ice and water on each floor. No plastic bottles, straws etc which is nice to see. They don’t supply masks so bring your own cause with one you can’t get is to eat. Evening shows start late (for us) 10pm ,So can’t comment on them. Plenty of bars so no problem finding a cocktail. Me and a buddy took my son and 3 of his friends for a HS senior trip. I had stayed on this property 6 years prior. Lobby was clean and the staff was friendly. We had two sets of adjoining rooms close to the pool and not far from the beach, so it was a pretty great location. There is also a nice snack hut near the pool. The resort was clean and well maintained, with beautiful landscaping and abundant wildlife. The place was very clean and our rooms were maintained daily by the staff. It's a humid environment and the AC's in the rooms did little to combat this. This was my only real complaint. The pool was active during the day, with plenty of games and events. The grads loved it. They had karaoke and nightly shows there as well as a teen club, which again the grads loved. The food at the buffets was decent, but not great. Make sure you have a face mask each time you go eat or they won't serve you. Take a box of masks with you or it'll cost you $3 a mask at the store by the lobby. Ate at the Mediterranean restaurant one night and the food was good. The waiter let us order extra entrees, which gave everyone a variety of foods to choose from. There are a couple of nice bars on property with good liquor. Not sure if we were supposed to be there, but Fabian the bartender was great and appreciated the sizable tip we left for him each day. The beach was a mess with all of the seaweed, but that's mother nature for you. The resort made efforts to clean it up daily, but it is very constant this time of year. There are also a lot of nice shops on the resort as well and they have vendors there at night selling trinkets, leather goods, and local art. It's a nice place to browse after supper. Would definitely stay here again. The customer service here is very good and people are very nice, especially the cleaning staff and waiters.

Well start with the good. The resort is beautiful and most the staff are kind and helpful.
The bad is the A la carte's are near impossible to book. The concierge was rude and only wanted to sell us a Iberostar membership and because we were unwilling to waist half a day they wouldn't book us the A la carte's we wanted. The buffet was average, with mostly the same foods every day but nothing very good. We noticed the restaurants were never full and managed to get tables by just asking.
Our room was upgraded due to booking issues. The room was large and beautiful, however the a/c would cut out repeatedly throughout the night and the bed was hard as a rock. the last day there were some noisy guests in our building so the front desk phoned our room and woke us up twice. The free shopping trip to playa de Carmen was us being dropped in a shopping area where my son and I were offered drugs no less than 12 times in 2 hours. Other families had the same experience.
