Watamu Treehouse is situated on one of the most picturesque stretches of Watamu beach, ideally located right opposite the Coral Gardens of the Marine Park. There are no large hotels nearby, only private residences. Built high in the trees, its unique architecture affords a 360 degree panorama of the Indian Ocean coastline on one side and native forest on the other. Watamu Treehouse has seven bedrooms, all of which are ensuite. There are also a number of other beds and sleeping areas and you can sleep up to about 20 in the two towers There is everything you need here for a wonderful holiday. Just bring yourselves and your toys. Daily deliveries of fresh seafood and produce, and anything from the local supermarket can be arranged. The kitchen is equipped with fridge, cooker, oven, deep-freeze, plus a good range of utensils and cookware. As this is also a family home, you will find high quality crockery, cutlery and glassware in the cupboards, as well as fine bedlinen, mosquito-netting and towels. Note: Please bring your own bathroom consumables, as they are not provided with the house rental. The house consists of two towers in the trees, linked by bridges, stairways and ramps. Most of the building was deliberately set above the beautiful coastal forest - for the stunning views and the cooling breeze, and also to avoid unnecessary damage to the natural environment. The house has no windows - just frames around vistas of nature in all its glory. You share the forest with the birds, insects, small mammals, reptiles and primates. The forest boasts many indigenous trees common to the coastal strip, including beautiful baobabs and many examples of the remarkable bamba-kofi. Both living and sleeping areas are situated just above the forest canopy, open to the cooling coastal breezes and the scintillating views. You sleep breathing the fresh air of the forest and awaken to the early morning calls of the wildlife - especially birds and sykes monkeys! The views from the house are stunning. Unusually for the East Coast of Africa, Watamu Treehouse offers a complete 360 degree horizon, affording sensational views of sunsets over forests, coconut plantations and Mida Creek, as well as sunrises and moonrises over the Indian Ocean... You have a choice of several verandas and a sublime rooftop space, all designed to accommodate both communal activities and private retreats from which to contemplate the beauty of the surroundings. Please note that the house is built high off the ground. If a fear of heights, climbing up flights of stairs, would spoil your holiday, then this might not be the best house for you. It should also be reconsidered should any member of your party be prone to losing their balance after a particularly long and well-lubricated night! And groups with small children might find this house not suitable, although many groups have been coming with all ages of children since 1998

Detailed Reviews
We stayed at Watamu Treehouse with a group of 12 ladies from South Africa for 6 days. The staff and the owners went all out. We did all the activities (snorkeling, kayaking, floating, supping), had a variety of yoga classes with different local instructors (all excellent), did a yoga session with the local outreach program they do in their staff's villages, walked to the Crab Shack through local villages. I can recommend each and every activity. The beach is a 3 min walk through the forest away, and is a dream for sunrise and sunset walks - totally safe by the way. Rooms and common areas are spacious, very clean, and mosquito net above the beds keeps the mozzies away at night. Although i am not a vegetarian, i thoroughly enjoyed the vegetarian food - each meal was a celebration, and they kindly cooked us some seafood and fish on some nights as well. I cannot recommend this property highly enough. Enjoy!

On arrival, we were welcomed by smiling staff and a cold, fresh glass of juice. Once checked in, lunch was served and we were taken to our room overlooking the jungle and the creek. Every afternoon, monkeys would cannonball off the roof into the trees. The menu is completely planned by the chef - you tell your server what time you want to eat. The food is healthy and tasty. The powder-white sand beach is a few minutes walk through the trees and was never crowded. In fact, we only ever saw a couple of other people. We chose the Treehouse because of the unique rooms, yoga, the food and the proximity to the beach. Unfortunately we were both suffering from a stomach illness and were unable to take advantage of the programs on offer. However, Aja made sure we were doing ok and eating healthy food. We simply took life easy, lazing in the shade by the "cool pool", drinking chilled coconut water and recovering. I would love to return when feeling 100% to enjoy the activities and the beach.

We had a very relaxing and beautiful stay at the Treehouse. Loved the open air room experience, waking up to monkeys jumping in the trees just outside the room. The evening ocean breezes just so gently brought a sense of calmness and serenity. The pool downstairs is very refreshing, nicely in the shades of the trees for those that get easily sunburned. I loved the design of the place, an amalgamation of tinted glass mosaics, pure white cement and wooden tree structures to live up to its name as a treehouse. When the light shines through the mosaics, the rooms are brightly lit with gorgeous rainbow colors. The staff are super friendly and there’s a nice amount of activities to do around Watamu. I definitely recommend one yoga session and a sunset kayak, amazing experiences. The 3min walk to the beach is adventurous as you climb through a small jungle. The beach is made of the whitest sand out there. Time we went was perfect kite surfing conditions so you saw dozens of kites being taken around the shallow turquoise waters. Beautiful stay, great for relaxation and resetting while offering some adventure for those seekers.

Three girlfriends stayed at the Watamu Treehouse for three days after long safari journeys throughout Kenya. Oh man, I wish we could stay longer. It’s such a unique place, each aspect of which is magical!
The guest house is a one of a kind architectural beauty, reminiscent of Antiny Gaudi creations. Even though it was fully booked and there were people everywhere, it was quiet and peaceful, with many nooks around the house to hide. I enjoyed exploring the houses, paying attention to many details, and views out of big, small, and tiny windows.
We stayed in Star and Moon rooms. The rooms was open to the out of doors. I slept so well, listening to the ocean and wildlife. It was very clean. We always had fresh water in clean cups daily in the room
My favorite place was the upper yoga studio. You certainly can’t beat the views and breeze there. I spend many hours there, taking yoga classes and having my solo yoga practice.
It was wonderful to walk through the forest onto the beach. The walk itself was a meditation!
I hope to come back and participate in a yoga retreat at the Watamu Treehouse

This is my second stay at Treehouse, first as a couple and next for a solo self reflection break. I could not recommend it more highly. The place is a work of magical art brought to life and the people make it home. The incredibly tasty vegetarian food leaves you feel nourished and clean inside, the views from every nook and cranny are a sensation for your eyes and the energy I have felt here is serene. Despite being a full house I found beautiful spots of solitude that gave me so much peace & quiet. In this time of Covid, I found much attention to making sure there is a high standard of hygiene, distance and you are 99% living with natural ventilation from all the dining areas to your shower! I highly recommend the kayak and SUP adventures to fully immerse yourself in the magical nature of Mida Creek. A deeply soulful place, highly recommend, you will always leave wishing you could stay longer! Thank you to Paul and his incredible team.

Of the numerous places we stayed at during our December/January visit to Kenya, Watamu Treehouse ranks our favourite place. The uniqueness undoubtedly serves the Treehouse well but it is also the attentiveness of the staff, the quality of the food and the location which all add to the experience of staying at the Treehouse. We also decided to do the 'Float' tour which was excellent and offered an excellent way to see a small part of Mida Creek. We also snorkelled at the nearby Marine Park using the Treehouse's services and, again, despite an intense rainfall our experience was excellent. All in all, Watamu Treehouse is an absolute must-stay place. We hope to be back at some point in the future.

Close your eyes and dream..imagine staying in a fantastic boutique hotel and a room that has the most spectacular views (of the sea on one side and Tsavo on the other side). Its unusual interior design with impeccable feeling for details is breathtaking. Add to this healthy, tasty, home made meals, detox juices, smiling and available staff, fantastic yoga classes and the most incredible ayurvedic massage and you will think you are in a paradise. But you are not-you were lucky enough to find Treehouse, a heaven on earth. Additionally and equally important is that Threehouse has a great respect for the environment and its surrounding with access to a beautiful beach. From the moment we contacted Treehouse to the last minutes of our stay we were overwhelmed with the quality of the service, the place per se, its energy and vibe but mostly the welcoming staff and the feeling of being at home. Daniella is simply a star who made everything to make us feel comfortable and happy. We even got small, well-thought through presents upon our departure. Speechless!!!

My family and I have stayed in quite a few places in Kenya and around Africa and I can confidently say this is the most unique place we've ever stayed in this far. We spent a week here over Christmas and starting with just how the hotel is built to intertwine with the trees to feel like a real tree house, it feels different from the get go.
The rooms are likewise very special with a very open architecture and since all of us stayed in upper rooms with an oceanside view, it really dd offer some amazing views.
The completely pescatarian menu was definitely something new and I felt like the rotating menu everyday for dinner kept things fresh, the breakfast maybe a little less so. I will however say that some members of my family were not as excited by the pescatarian menu so it does definitely depend on personal preference.
The beach was very clean and was never crowded despite the fact that it was in the middle of the Christmas holiday's which I really appreciated. Even with it being a public beach, the lack of big crowds really does make a stroll on the beach or swimming feel very scenic and relaxing.
The best part of the experience was definitely the optional sunset kayak trip and a snorkeling trip. We did the sunset kayak with a guide and I'd say its the best and most beautiful way for you to really see the creek and the mangrove and really appreciate it. The snorkeling trip was similarly very special in Watamu marine park whereby we were able to swim around for close to two hours and really take in all the marine & coral life. The guides for both trips were very professional, helpful and friendly making the experience as enjoyable as possible. These are just two of the many optional extra trips they offer and while these trips/tours are on the pricy side of things, it's an experience you'll never forget.
Overall, if you're someone who enjoys travelling and you're looking for a new unique experience on one of Kenya's most beautiful beaches then you can't go wrong with Watamu Treehouse.

Wow, thank you for taking the time to write this review, and go in to so much detail. We thoroughly enjoy giving people unique experiences, and letting them be touched by the healing powers of nature and being outdoors. And we especially love it if this kind of thing is relatively new for them - thank you for letting us take care of you and take your family through a new experience all together.

We were looking for a place to retreat to at the beach where we could relax in a private and relaxing space that was close to the beach with beautiful and inspirational views. Treehouse was definitely that place! We were able to retreat into nature and still be close enough to explore restaurants and places that are popular in Watamu. The staff was were so helpful and paid great attention to our specific needs, making us feel right at home. Our room was stunning with phenomenal view and a wonderful breeze that was much appreciated on days when it was really hot. The food was deliciously healthy!
Thank you Treehouse!!!

I found out about the treehouse on social media and travelled all the way from Los Angeles to Watamu just to experience a retreat here, and I was not disappointed at all! It was so worth it! We stayed for a week, and this has to be the most relaxing, refreshing, and rejuvenating trip I have ever had. From friendliest staff greeting you upon arrival to the the beautiful architecture of the treehouse and the breathtaking views of the jungle on one side, and the Indian Ocean from another, you won't really even feel the need of leaving the property for any reason. The treehouse is only about a 5-7 min walk to the ocean (with a direct path and clear instructions on how to get there), which is great for morning or evening walks. There is also a handful of wonderful activities to participate in daily such as morning meditations at 7 AM, or afternoon yoga/afro-dance & yoga classes.
And lastly I have to mention how amazing the food was! The food was 10/10, fresh, healthy and delicious. All ingredients are locally sourced and no refined sugars are used, which is amazing. The food was superb and included a variety of healthy dishes each meal, and everyday. And although meat is not served, there is an option for fish dishes - which are fresh and straight from the ocean. I cannot express how amazing everything was at this treehouse and the level of detail that went into it. Thank you to Paul, Aja and the wonderful staff that treated us like family. We will not ever forget this wonderful trip!

Thank you for your question. The closest shops are Blue Marmalade that has many things or a specialist wine shop like Kalahari. Both are 10 minutes away by tuk tuk or you can walk to town - if the tide is low you can do the whole walk on the beach - 1 hour, buy what you want, and take the tuk tuk home with your goods - cost is $ 2-3. Treehouse does not serve or sell alcohol, but you are welcome to get your own.
Dear Mark - hello - i just came across your question, and i am sorry for the one month delay. We normally answer all inquires within a few hours, but you are the first person who has messaged us through this platform and we have not been checking it. You can contact us through this site with any questions. We rent rooms - we have 7 double en-suite rooms - and you can do B&B / Half Board and Full Board.
Price is approx $ 120 per person per night (in a double) with Half Board - what we recommend. We have daily yoga and lots of great nature-based activities. Please let us know if we can help you further and again i am sorry for response delay.
Regards
Paul
