Staying at La Grande Quercia is not just about accomodation, it is a very special experience. Although the B&B location and rooms are lovely, it is truly Russ and Sergio that make your stay here so great. From our initial arrival, on a glorious sunny Italian day, to the special treats and a great bottle of wine in our room, to the many more shared glasses of wine, and delightful conversations, this was a wonderful way to finish our Italian adventure.
Thanks to Sergio to teaching us how to make our own "gnocchi" and pasta (no more store bought for us). Thanks to Russ for researching hikes in the mountains (had a glorious one our way back to Rome). And thanks to you both for organizing the wine tour and the delicious seafood dinner (say hi to Giullia for us).
We had such a lovely time!!!!

As you might have noticed, most of these reviews are not just about “B&B La Grande Quercia”, but also explicitly about its owners Russ and Sergio. That’s because they are really nice people and fantastic hosts, who truly seem to enjoy having you around. They’re service minded and hospitable, and will do anything they can to help you make your stay in their part of Italy a success; directions, tips on sightseeing, advice on local restaurants, etc. Abruzzo is a surprisingly beautiful region with lots to offer and they gladly show you the way to all of it.
We stayed in the Bella Vista Suite and enjoyed 100% privacy, space, luxury and true comfort. The accommodation is of hotel quality in every way, including a high standard continental/Italian breakfast and perfect espresso. We had a fantastic stay!

Where does one begin to describe the amazing 2 weeks we spent at La Grande Quercia B&B in Abruzzo. Everything about the place exceeded expectations. We had been travelling in Italy for 2 weeks already when we arrived here for our final 2 weeks. We've stayed in many places, but NONE came close to La Grande Quercia. Not in hospitality, customer care, kindness and generosity of the owners or delicious home baked goods for breakfast. The B&B is a beautiful villa on impeccably kept grounds, with a lovely pool and lounge area. It has all the modern accommodations you need but within a rustic warm charming feel. The bedrooms are ideal, nice comfortable beds and bedding, great storage space, beautiful views and very quiet. Gorgeous private remodeled bathrooms with nice shower space. The shared living room is a cozy room where you can sit quietly by yourself or share good stories with other guests and the owners. And speaking of the owners, Russell and Sergio, where do I begin? They are two of the most beautiful, generous, kind people we have ever met. The attentive care they give their guests is unsurpassed. And they go above and beyond to help when they know you are looking for something (a very particular old cookbook and confetti come to mind). Whether Sergio made the traditional Abruzzese sweets or Russell made special tarts and bread, every morning we looked forward to breakfast with much enthusiasm. The fantastic smell of baked goods wafted to the bedrooms upstairs and we couldn't help but wake up with a smile knowing what awaited us. Besides being top notch B&B owners, they assisted us in our family tree research and by the end of our stay it felt like they were a part of our family. They shared our joy of discovery with us and never let us down when we wanted to go one step further in the search. We cannot thank them enough for this.
And then there are Gemma and Monti, 2 stunningly beautiful dogs who were rescued as pups by Sergio and Russell. They stroll around the premises quietly and greet you lovingly when you come home. Such sweet well behaved dogs.
This stay was so fantastic that I am having serious withdrawal symptoms, both from the premises and the owners. Missing it so very much. Without a doubt, I will be returning to stay at La Grande Quercia. If you will be travelling to this region of Italy, please book this place. You will love it.

Just returned from a 2 week stay at La Grande Quercia. A great experience. Russ and Sergio were the perfect hosts. They were always available to give insight into the best Abruzzo sights and set us up with a terrific Anniversary dinner at a local restaurant. A 5 Star review for a 5 Star Experience. We shall return.

Really, if I had 100 million, I would beg Russell and Sergio to take half of it and manage my life. They are incredible and I don't know how they do it: perfect food (actually, beyond perfect); perfect accomodations, every time; sublime hosting. Anything you want, they can arrange for you!

Another marvel about this place is its proximity to Teramo, which is like a small, Italian Paris. It's my favorite mainland Italian city. And then, too, there is the nearby Grand Sasso, with its achingly beautiful vistas and fields of wild horses...

As you can surmise from the ratings and comments, La Grande Quercia is a great place to stay and it certainly was the highlight of our three week holiday in Europe. I can go on and on about the spotless rooms, the plush towels, the thoughtful and great breakfasts, and the fantastic cappuccino Russ fixed every morning. But all of this pales in comparison to the hospitality that Russ and Sergio displayed. What other B&B owners do you know that will drive an hour to pick up their guest at the airport, then prepare a meal when they arrive--all at 1100 PM? Or drive their guests around so they can see the sights because they did not have a car? Or share their wine and then tell you that wine is better when it is shared? There are just so many ways that they were gracious hosts and made you feel like family and not guests at their B&B.
I took a cooking lesson with Sergio in which we made tagliatelle, ravioli dolci and ragu, and shared a bottle of prosecco (Italian lemonade:>), and my husband and I were invited to dinner with another couple staying at the B&B to eat the pasta we prepared. The meal was fantastic, with a huge plate of antipasti, followed by the pasta. Russ made the best dessert of ice cream and homemade fresh cherry topping, and when I commented on how wonderful it was, he made it the next night (for another couple that he and Sergio cooked dinner for at 1000 PM when they arrived) and made extra so I could have some--how thoughtful is that!
We have traveled extensively and I have to say the Abruzzo area is one the the most breathtaking areas we have been to. The mountain of Gran Sasso is a short distance away as well as the Adriatic Sea and beaches. I had a book about the area, but rarely used it since every day at breakfast Russ suggested places to visit and then eat. His recommendations were perfect and we saw so much of the region and had the best and most reasonably priced food--and this was our sixth visit to Italy, so we are fairly knowledgeable about the country.
I would definitely stay here again. Molto Grazie Russ and Sergio.

There is no better way to unwind than to spend some time at "La Grande Quercia". A short drive from Pescara airport will see you in the heart of a pure and ancient way of rural Italian life.
Upon your arrival, your hosts Russell and Sergio are both relaxed and welcoming and you instantly feel that your stay in Abruzzo will be too short.
La Grande Quercia is a place to relax. There is no traffic, no noise, lovely views and climate and the clearest starriest night skies,
La Grande Quercia is a sympathetically renovated house of significant proportion. The enjoyment of the pool and gardens alone are worth the short two hour flight from London.
The Abruzzo idyll of peace and tranquility can only be fully appreciated when you realise where you a on the map. A 30 minute car journey to the west will take you to the Sasso mountains with quaint towns carved and balancing precariously into the mountain side. Likewise, the 130km of golden sandy beaches are a 30 minute drive in the opposite direction.
Abruzzo has it all, ancient history, beautiful towns and Piazza's and all surrounded by four National Parks of outstanding natural beauty. There is a host of restaurants in the region from traditional pizza to fine dining and don't forget the wine ! Your hosts will be glad to recommend any number of local establishments to suit your taste.
A stay at La Grande Quercia, will leave you relaxed and refreshed, but it will leave you wanting more. You will go back!

I would absolutely go back in a heartbeat. My stay was one of my best of my trip of a lifetime. Russ and Sergio made me feel like I was visiting family. The warmth and love they showed us touched and changed each one of us. The food was excellent. Fresh and expertly prepared. Our rooms were very nice and clean. They are quite knowledgeable of the area and are always willing to help if needed. I highly recommend staying here. This B and B will always have a special place in my memories and heart ♥️

We stayed for 2 nights and only wished it had been longer. The accommodations were pristine, nice and private. Our hosts, Russ and Sergio, were more than helpful. We had run into a couple of problems before we arrived there and they were more than willing to help us straighten them out, we are forever grateful. They also pointed out restaurants, and different points of interest that were right up our alley. This place is an absolute must and a perfect delight. hope to return and stay longer

We loved the BnB and our stay in Abruzzo. Not only are the accommodations clean and comfortable, but they are also beautiful. The surrounding mountains are picturesque and the people are lovely. Russ and Serg connected us with family in Forca Di Valle and we are eternally grateful for their organizing of our meeting. We felt like their family the whole time as well. Their meals are of excellent quality and served family style with them. You won’t be disappointed with your stay! I hope they remain life long friends!
