Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed one night in the Blowhole Cottage. The view from the balcony was wonderful and the cottage is spacious. However despite an effort to update the cottage with a nice paint color, the kitchen and small bathroom are very dated. The bed is not comfortable at all and almost felt more like a double rather than a queen sized bed. I chose this motel based on the great reviews so we were a bit disappointed. I guess we picked an older unit. We feel we paid ($220NZ) on the high side for what we got but it is advertised as a motel rather than a hotel so lesson learned.

The Paparoa Park Motel is well situated on a hillside about 1k from the Pancake Rocks. There is very little in Punakaiki - just a cafe, clothes / gift shop and visitor centre both set up for tourists who stop to do the 20min cliff walk around the rocks (which by the way are well worth a trip, especially at high tide).
We booked Blowhole Cottage for two nights. The Cottage has lovely views over the distant beach and a small terrace. However it is really tired inside, patch of damp, broken mirror, poorly equipped kitchen, no air con, no mosquito screens on bedroom window etc etc. To make matters worse, when it rained heavily during the night we had to move the bed as water was dripping through the roof onto us as we slept! So far, so bad.
We made the management team aware of this the following morning. They responded really well and quickly and moved us next door to Seaside Cottage which was fantastic. Beautiful views, modern, well equipped, air con and really comfortable with a huge attention to detail. Everything that Blowhole is sadly not.
So - a story of two very different nights - one bad, one very good! I can only imagine that Blowhole is due for an upgrade.

We have been touring NZ and we drove to Punakaiki to visit the national park and see the pancake rocks. It was definitely worth the long drive on the west coast in a rainy day: the pancake rocks coastline is an incredible supernatural wonder that one can only be appreciated in person. In addition, the Paparoa Park Motel was an excellent overnight experience: it is definitely the coolest room we have ever stayed in. I admired the architectural design of the units and the construction with beautiful wood and natural materials and it's functionality. The room was clean and comfortable as well: we wish we had booked it for an extra night.

We stayed in Blowhole cottage. The views across the bay of crashing waves are fantastic and being able to see glow worms a few metres from your door is special. The self check in worked fine. However that’s the best I can say. We paid more for this motel than we have paid for any other motel in New Zealand and it was by far the worst. Old and well maintained is not a problem but old, stained, tatty and dirty is. Although the carpet had been replaced and the bed linen was immaculate nothing else was clean. The whole place needs a deep clean and then a cleaner who pays some attention to detail. Even the dishcloth was dirty. The plates are melanine and are stained and there is very little cutlery. Some windows are fitted with screens and most have cheap blinds. Weirdly the bathroom has a screen but no blind and is overlooked. Most worryingly the smoke detector has been removed so I am not convinced that this place meets any health and safety regulations. The manager who happened to be on site clearly didn’t see the problem. If they hadn’t already taken my money we’d have left (which is presumably why they take it in advance!)

We stayed in Blowhole Cottage and it wasn’t the comfiest of stays, bed was very creaky and nowhere to hang anything, dining chairs aren’t comfortable at all. Parking is great just outside the door, it’s very clean. tv only in bedroom. Spectacular view. WiFi is flaky but works and is great given the remote area
We had everything we needed apart from hanging space.

We have stayed at the Punakaiki Park motel several times and will certainly do so again. It’s everything that you need for a visit to the stunning West Coast: exceptional location and views, clean, comfortable and well equipped rooms, and charming hosts.
The Blow Holes cottage has been recently renovated and has amazing views. We stayed one night but could easily have stayed longer.

We spent an amazing weekend in the Seaside Cottage. The accommodation is clean, comfy with an amazing view. The nikau trees in the garden are the final touch of this stunning place. All modern facilities are provided. Highly recommended.

Excellent location & room. Was disappointed there was no milk in the room & unable to purchase it from anywhere close. Because of self check in procedure we were unable to contact staff etc. Apart from that, great price & highly recommended.

Nicely located on the edge of town, and our cabin had a great view of the coast (the Blow Hole cabin). My one small negative was that the windows lacked screens so we were concerned about opening them lest the sand flies come to visit. As it turned out, the weather was cool and we were very comfortable. Folks running the place were friendly and helpful.

We stayed in one of the five log cabins which had disabled access. The rooms were spotlessly clean and well equipped with microwave, hob, fridge, flat screen TV and sat tv. We had free use of a gas bbq which was a bonus. The resident pair of weka birds are entertaining with their four chicks never far behind. Mobile reception is Very good getting H and 3g but only on vodafone also has wifi with fast broadband connection with $5 vouchers from zenbu. The tavern down the road is the best place to eat or the resort which is more expensive (we looked at the menu but didn't eat there). Just bear in mind the nearest shop or petrol station is half an hour away in greymouth or westport. We will definately come again.
