While backpacking through New Zealand I decided to do an art based retreat and found Art Break by chance. It was amazing to explore the area which I may not have seen otherwise, beautiful quiet beaches, Lovely little town.

I really enjoyed Heather and Naomi's teaching styles. They introduced new concepts and taught us new techniques that I will use in the future. Most importantly we were encouraged to play with the materials, brushes and strokes which was a positive experience for me as we often forget how to be spontaneous and creative.

The food was also great and we had little outings such as painting on the beach and going to a nice restaurant in town.

Jamming on the ukes all together was also a highlight!

I definitely recommend doing art with these ladies!

For me it was a wonderful escape to the beach to be amongst others who are having so much fun with their artistic endeavours. Lovely food served, comfortable bed and the fun of having the option of showering under the stars. A glass of wine at the end of a day of painting relaxing with a truly eclectic selection of music and discussing the day's work was a real pleasure. Great hosts.

Thoroughly enjoyed Art Break Waihi. Heather and Naomi were were wonderful hosts, great food, awesome accommodation, 5 minute walk to a lovely beach, met new people and learnt some good painting skills (especially being a beginner!). Came away with a couple of beach paintings and my daughter was very impressed with my efforts.

My Art break weekend was inspirational and fun . Despite feeling very challenged about my ability to produce art, Naomi and Pippa's support and encouragement meant I did it! - and in such a variety of media. I learnt so much about art techniques, materials and feel I can go on at home and give my own art a go. I can't believe you fitted so much into the two days. All this, PLUS your amazing hospitality, made me feel so at home and comfortable with a cosy bed and delicious food. The setting of the bach is delightful- pohutukawa trees as painting inspiration and that stunning outdoor shower were highlights. Thank you both so much. I loved meeting and learning alongside the new friends I made over the weekend too. I'll be back for Art Break 2!

What a great weekend in a fabulous location with tutors who provided not only the opportunity to follow up on what we had learnt at Art Break 1 but also to use the media of our preference.

Time for experimentation was important to me ,as it'd been a while since I'd picked up a paintbrush. I therefore valued and enjoyed some 'playing' time to help loosen up .
Both Heather and Naomi were encouraging and helpful teaching new techniques and providing a great range of resources and materials.
Once again we were spoilt with delicious meals and snacks.
Thank you Heather and Naomi for making this weekend a special experience in every way!

Second time around at Simpson's Beach, Artbreak #2 has rekindled the spark ignited in Artbreak #1. Just what I needed to boost the morale in the friendly, encouraging environment provided by Naomi & Heather. Had a lot of fun using a different medium guided by their excellent tips and demonstrations. With all the materials and equipment provided we had the opportunity to explore and play as we wanted, with no pressure to produce a Van Gogh or Matisse! Superb location with excellent accommodation, and don't get me started on the food and the morning cuppa in bed! Such a relaxing, yet uplifting weekend! Roll on Artbreak #3!

Thanks Naomi & Heather. Our second Artbreak delivered everything I expected and more. It rekindled the spark for painting that you first ignited in Artbreak #1 with your enthusiasm, insightful lessons and relaxed atmosphere. Not to mention the delicious food, beautiful accommodation (thanks Graham & Heather) and the lovely hot cuppa in bed to start the days! Will be signing up for #3 whenever you're ready!

This was a great introduction to the art of painting, but it is so much more than this. Talented and engaging tutors who are also the cooks/ hosts/ providers of entertainment.
The day starts with a cup of tea in bed/ facilities are fine (including the painted bathroom which provides an illusion of already being at the beach), and painting is not the only focus. There is ample time for eating/ resting/ walking/ shopping and dancing in the evening at the Waihi Beach hotel.
Overall an excellent weekend and very inspirational
Thanks Heather and Naomi.

I really loved the whole Art Break experience.Having the opportunity to experiment with different mediums under the relaxed and informative tutelage of Heather and Naomi was so enjoyable and creative. We even came home with our little masterpieces and notes to continue our learning at our own leisure. Very encouraging to have our talents nurtured in a non threatening ,uncompetitive manner.
Not only was art on the menu, but very tasty meals were also produced to keep our spirits and energy up.
I'd recommend art break as a wonderful way to dabble in your talents and have fun in the process.
Thank you for this opportunity. Still buzzing a few weeks later .

I had a best weekend away at Art Break. From the coffees in bed, to the delicious breakfasts and morning teas and lunches, to the cute retro Kiwi bach, and the gorgeous Waihi Beach location, it was just a really nice escape from normal, busy life. I'm a complete beginner in terms or art, and haven't really picked up a paintbrush since high school art classes. But this was a non-threatening and just plain fun chance to experiment and play with a range of different mediums that I normally wouldn't think to try or have the means to easily access. The guided lessons in acrylics and inks and watercolor were really great - it really helped me to have a little bit of structure so I wasn't overwhelmed by a white page and my own lack of inspiration. Highly, highly recommended to anyone who wants to get in touch with their creative side or just clear their head and have a break from the daily routine. I came away feeling inspired to add a little bit more creative in my life, and hunt out some art classes closer to home. Thanks so much Heather and Naomi!
