Hawkdun Lodge was a great stop off on our rail trail itinerary. We booked the family room, which suited us very well. The washer and dryer provided was really appreciated (and free to use), as was the indoor spa pool! Natalie organized self catering BBQ packs for us from the Maniatoto Cafe, which was extremely tasty and saved us an extra job. However, if you wanted it would be very easy to self cater entirely using the facilities in the Hawkdun Room which includes a shared BBQ and oven (the rooms also have some catering facilies too). Our included breakfast was really nice. Natalie gave some information about the local pool which we took the kids down to enjoy. This is the place to stay in Ranfurly.

We've stayed in all sorts of accommodation over the years and this place is about as good as it gets. Natalie is a great host and the rooms are quiet and very comfortable, spotlessly clean and well appointed. The spa room and the communal lounge are quite special and somewhat unique plus the bike storage and repair area is a bonus for those who are cycling. There is lots to explore around historic Ranfurly and Hawkdun Lodge makes for a great base. Highly recommended as a very comfortable and special place to stay.

Very happy to have stayed at Hawkdun Lodge after Day 2 on the Rail Trail.
Location was great - short stroll from the shops.
I was very warmly welcomed and I was shown my room and all the shared facilities such as laundry, spa and dining area upon my arrival.
I stayed in a room with a bath and was given some Manuka honey products to use. My veranda was facing the road but it was very quiet, and I didn't feel my privacy was compromised.
Lovely place, well taken care of.

Hostess was so helpful when other accommodation fell through. The Indoor spa was a winner and the comfort and cleanliness were great. The local pub was entertainingly backcountry NZ, the nearby restaurants need pre-booking but the kitchen/lounge facilities at this lodge/motels are excellent so I will bring food to cook next time. Nearby Naseby has Night Sky tours 10-15 minutes down the road.

We’ve travelled from the north Island and stayed in many motels. Hawkdun Lodge is, so far, the best accommodation we’ve stayed in, and who would have known in this small friendly town!?
Amenities, cleanliness, presentation, furnishings, and small special touches, were of such high quality. Room was so comfortable and spacious with 2 beautiful armchairs, quality soft furnishings, separate bathroom and bedroom off the lounge. Bathroom had heated flooring, good extractor fan, and room had an efficient heat pump.
Whoever built this Lodge spent a lot of time thinking about the small details, like hooks in the bathroom, rails for towels, an extra mirror in the lounge so I could keep getting ready while the other half was in the bathroom. So many motels forget these small but essential extras.
Natalie is a very conscientious hands-on owner and keeps the Lodge looking beautiful.
Thoroughly recommend it!

Beautiful, well presented rooms that are modern and very clean. All the necessary amenities. Although next to main room the double glazing means almost no sound.
Highly recommend this accommodation as value for money.

We stayed 1 night here while driving through Central Otago. Great location with town only 5-10 minute walk away. Off-street parking is a bonus. Nice sized room with everything we needed for the night and very clean and tidy. We loved the common room that offered full kitchen and dining table/chairs and gas fire and comfy seating. Would definitely recommend for an overnight while doing the rail trail.

We stayed overnight during our ride on the Central Otago rail trail and it was exceptional. Natalie , the owner is a superstar and drove us to the hospital for medical attention to an injured knee - she couldn’t do enough for us. The lodge has an excellent kitchen dining facility for residents and we bought beautiful salads and sausage rolls from Maniototo Cafe and lovely Pinot from the supermarket and had our dinner in the dining room - it was a great choice. This is one of the best motels we have stayed in all of our travels

We were looking for a comfortable night on the rail trail with cooking facilities. The bed was very comfortable, the decor restful and the kitchen facilitates met our needs. The spa pool was a bonus. We were in the Hamilton Room which is a spacious studio unit. If the owners could check out the fridge that froze our food overnight I am sure it would be appreciated by the next guest. Thanks for the stay. I would recommend this motel and considered it good value for money and clean which is always appreciated.

We stayed in the "Eweburn" unit overnight. Well equipped, spacious & modern. Very comfortable king sized bed. Underfloor heating in the bathroom & double glazing were good features as the temperature plummeted overnight.
