We had a lovely large room, with seating area, all very clean and comfortable, staying two nights. Car parking was easy, and location good. It is close to a small shop and two other pubs, a short drive to the lovely beach, and not far from Malin head, which is worth a visit. It was quiet in the room, despite the bar and restaurant downstairs.

Given the unpredictabilty of the Irish weather, we chose McGrorys partly on the basis that it had a bar and restaurant, and we did use them, and had a good experience, though not quite what we had expected. The bar wasn't quite as cosy as some, with more of a bar/restaurant vibe (and very hot despite the cold weather), and there isn't music every night. We also tried McGuinness bar, a short walk up the road, which has a more historic feel. We did make one traditional music evening at McGrory's which was a bonus - very professional, though it lacked some more familiar songs. Both the evening food and breakfast was traditional fare, well done and tasty. The coffee was a bit on the weak side for us, and while vegetarians are well catered for, it wouldn't be good for vegans (though presumably you could request something).

A couple of minor suggestions - bigger towels would be good, and an anti slip surface on the bath at the end away from the shower. More long-term if there is another refurb a wider bath would be better - there was lots of room and it seemed odd it was so narrow!

After a very long drive (lots of roadworks on A6 to Derry and Muff) and the aftermath of rain from Storm Babet, we eventually arrived at McGrory's Hotel Culdaff, and two very tired ladies were welcomed by Cheryl the lovely lady on reception. We got our keys and headed to Room 104 and all we can say is lovely, lovely, lovely. Room is bright and airy and is newly refurbished, and the double and single bed were the most comfortable we have ever slept in. The room was absolutely spotless in every regard, bathroom, and bedroom, so well done Team McGrory's. Team McGrory's are so so helpful and go the extra mile to ensure you have a very pleasant experience in this very homely hotel. We had two pleasant evenings in the bar, and I recommend a good wine list (cosy fire and trad music on Saturday evening - cosy). Breakfasts were served in the Front Room, and I had the Omelette both mornings, yummy and my sister opted for the full irish which she enjoyed. We travelled to Malin Head on Saturday and walked along Culdaff Beach - both areas so beautiful - the Wild Atlantic Way is a breath taking experience, so thank you Donegal. We had a late check out on Sunday which allowed for a rest post breakfast before the long drive home. So on behalf of my sister and I we wish to say a massive go raibh maith agat to each and every one of Team McGrory's Hotel

I organised a night out with friends, having never stay in Mc Grorys before and the amazing offer of €99 pp b&b and a 2 course meal, we couldn't pass it by, from the minute we checked in Brenda the receptionist was so warm and friendly, we look the lift to our room, and to say it didn't disappoint, warm and beautifully decorated, we had our meal book for 8, we went to the bar for a drink, feeling a bit peckish we asked Michelle if it would b possible to eat earlier, she went checked and came bk told us it wasn't a problem, food was amazing top class, music in the bar afterwards excellent it wasn't to loud, you could chat without shouting, to be heard. Breakfast was lovely, porridge to call back again for. Over all a fabulous Family run hotel whare everyone is made feel like extended family, a definite hotel worth a visit.

We were wowed immediately upon walking into our room with the sheer size of it which we weren’t expecting. The room was perfect for our two night stay. Breakfast was staggered to allow for table service which meant a very pleasant breakfast experience. We also enjoyed the trad band in the bar on Thursday night after dinner. The location was also great for a walk to the amazing beach. I would 100% come back to this hotel.

We took advantage of a promotional offer and enjoyed a lovely stay; the accommodation was spotless and comfortable and the breakfast was all we could have hoped for.

The restaurant serves excellent unfussy fare at a very reasonable price.

The service was very friendly and efficient throughout our stay.

This was our third visit to McGrorys - with another one lined up for Spring 2024.

Why?

This recently partially refurbished 3 star hotel punches way above its weight in its well stocked bar, top-class local live music, good, generous food and breakfast that includes smoked salmon and eggs (scrambled or poached) and Guinness bread as an option!

The blazing fires in the foyer and bar are so welcoming in a Donegal November, and add real and virtual warmth to the building.

The staff are down to earth, busy, always pleasant and always helpful. A delight in fact.

Do i have a gripe?
Just one small one - the pillows are too firm.

Checked in at 3. Room 106. Small room, dated but not an issue. Did not initially notice the bed size until we slept in it. My partner and I are slim and we kept falling out of the bed all night, no more than a large single or small double. I am from a hotel background and I know my beds. On checkout the lady was unapologetic saying she told us it was a small double room. We didn't mind a small room but the bed in that room is not up to standard. Tv had no reception and did not work.

We went down to the restaurant/bar round 4pm for a few drinks. The place was really quiet so we sat in a comfortable booth that could sit 4-6people. We had drinks all evening. Our dinner reservation was at 7pm. We asked could we have menus to the table we were at but we were told we would have to move to a smaller table. Understandable if the place was busy and people required tables but there was multiple free tables available that weren't reserved.

We ordered two sirloin steaks from the menu. Me nor my partner could eat them. We had to send them back, they were cold and rubbery. The staff were apologetic and agreed with us and they did take them off the bill after I asked twice. We didn't eat them and we didn't order anything else from the menu. There was a function on in the back room the night we stayed, maybe the kitchen was under pressure.

Live music finished in the pub at 12 which was early. Great pub down the street on the left with lively music and atmosphere.

We were looking forward to a night away and this place has good reviews however unfortunately we were disappointed from start to finish.

Pros: Some nice young staff working in the bar. Nice beach nearby. Good coffee shop in Culdaff.

Dear Claire H Thank you for staying with us and going to such length with your review. On booking by phone the day before, we advised your partner that only our smallest room was left and it was a room normally sold for single occupancy. Given the enquiry being made only the night before in the high season, it is understandable your partner still took the room notwithstanding the notice regarding the room size. We are sorry you were unhappy with the room. You were indeed asked to move from the table - in a respectful way - as there was another party who had booked that table ( which is a regular occurrence). We are sorry you take issue with this but believe we were reasonable. We were disappointed you did not enjoy your steaks and as you say you were not charged following your complaint . We served a number of other steaks to other guests that evening and the reaction was positive. We accept and are very sorry that you were unhappy with your steaks. You complain about the music finishing at midnight. We are sorry you were dissatisfied with this and thankfully for us our guests throughout the Summer enjoy our musical entertainment which always ends before midnight . We agree with you the other bar in the village is a fine establishment ( as is the other pub in the village ) and we are glad you were able to enjoy yourself later into the night . We agree with you that our wonderful staff are nice as is the beautiful beach as is the very good coffee shop in the village . As you mention, other guests take a different view of McGrory’s and we hope you try us again . Thank you McGrory’s Hotel

Very nice hotel with a good location near Malin Head. Everything is very tastefully and lovingly decorated and in good condition. Our room was very clean, the bed was comfortable and we had enough space. The bathroom was also new and classy. I would have liked it even better if you could have held the shower head in your hand instead of just standing under it.

There is a very popular restaurant in the hotel where there is live music at the weekend. The food (breakfast and dinner) was very good, we went crazy for the Guinness bread. A bit more choice for vegetarians would have been nice.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful and were happy to give tips for things to do.

Just back from a lovely 4 night break in Culdaff. We ate in McGrorys on two of those nights and we thoroughly enjoyed it on both occasions. The service was excellent, the food was lovely (as was the local beer) and the ambience in the bar was very relaxed and enjoyable. The place was also well organised with hand sanitizers and social distancing and the staff were very focussed on keeping it that way. It is a beautiful part of the world and I look forward to going back.

Stayed recently and we were really impressed by the customer service displayed by the staff …nothing was a problem. The receptionist with the blonde hair ( sorry I have forgotten your name) was so helpful and welcoming. Food really good especially the breakfasts. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and social distancing was adhered to everywhere in the hotel making us feel very safe. Highly recommend

Hi, you put this question to the other contributors of Trip Advisor in error, but they do have music nights, usually towards the weekends, & they are very good & people come from far & wide for them - I'd give the hotel a call or email if that suits better. Enjoy!

Hello, I am sorry but I am a recent visitor to McGrorys. You will have to contact them directly through email or phone. I highly recommend you stay there though. If you are travelling and want a nice soaker bath you're at the right place! The food is great too. I also highly recommend you going to Malin Head and the Malmore Gap. Beautiful drive and scenery
