Nestled in a prime spot with easy beach access, the Barceló Fuerteventura Castillo enchants guests with its array of amenities, including varied food options and comfortable digs. Some travelers, however, have noted the need for more sunbeds and refurbishment in places. While the service is generally regarded as friendly and helpful, there have been occasional lapses in efficiency. Room experiences fluctuate, with comfort and equipment being praised, but cleanliness and maintenance issues are a concern for some. The hotel's atmosphere and value for money have received mixed feedback, with the ambiance varying from festive to overly subdued and the pricing structure sometimes questioned.

We have just travelled back from a 7 night stay at this hotel and as a party of 6, including 2 young children, we had the most amazing time. I have not been to the resort of Caleta since 2018, and as soon as I arrived I remembered it's beauty, scenic views and friendliness of the local people.

It was our first time staying at Barcelo, as previously we had a timeshare at Castillo Beach Club (at the top of the big hill!), and after reading all the negative reviews about the hotel's cleanliness and service, I was anxious about what we would expect. On arrival to the hotel, we were greeted with really friendly staff and although we couldn't get into our bungalow (we had 2 superior bungalows for our party of 6) until 3pm, the staff enabled us to store our cases safely so that we could use the facilities while we waited.

The main pools were brilliant, lots of activities for the children to do in the day - water aerobics and beer yoga were super fun! On day 2, we found another pool by the Barcy Club which we realised was nearer to our block (1E), and this was great for the children where sun loungers weren't an issue to find and the location was much nearer to our room.

Food in the hotel was brilliant; breakfast, lunch and dinners gave a brilliant selection with lots of variety for the children with fresh omelettes, pancakes, fish and meats cooked daily at each mealtimes. As part of the all inclusive package we had 2 tokens per family to have a meal at the Mar hotel (the brazilian and Mexican restaurants were brilliant but booking was required as availability was quite sparse). The Barcelo resort enabled us to use the Sports Bar by the Marina where drinks were included as part of our package, again this was a real hit and a beautiful view with our evening drinks.

Cleanliness and service in the hotel was a real 10/10 for us. Staff were friendly and always greeted us on each visit to the restaurants. Service was quick and drinks were always available during table service. Cleanliness around the complex was fantastic; maids came in each day and changed bedding when we requested (by popping the sign on the front door). Staff were always visibly cleaning the pool areas, toilets, restaurants and the communal areas cannot be faulted!

The beach is wonderful for a day on the beach or an evening walk/game of volleyball, crazy golf was super fun and was a good price, electric scooters were a real hit with the children too. The market, on Saturdays and Tuesdays was a good experience too.

It really was a wonderful experience staying at Barcelo Castillo and we are already booking again for next year. Please don't read all the negative reviews; yes, sunbeds can be taken quickly, yes the food gets a bit 'samey', but if you're coming to a popular hotel and resort during peak season, what do you expect!!

Thank you Barcelo for giving us a wonderful time away 🙂

We like this hotel mainly because it is an apartment hotel, not just a bedroom with options. The options at this hotel ensure you get a choice suited to your needs. If you enter the free loyalty scheme, you can look forward to price discounts. We find that room prices increase at Easter and Christmas as I imagine other hotels do. Cheapest price is usually booking direct online. With a budget airline to this hotel, you can pay up to £1000 more for a 2 week stay. It is not necessarily child friendly. The play area is at one end of the complex with not much for parents to do other than sit around waiting. There is a pool nearby but divorced from the play area. However the hotel is situated very close to Caleta beach. The food offerings are very cosmopolitan in order to cater for the many different nationalities that stay at this hotel. People who do not embrace foreign menus may find this restrictive. Rooms are generally made up as 2 large singles but when making your online booking you can request a "cama matrimonio" in the notes section which will indicate a double bed request. The resulting bed is massive, much bigger than a king size. Ideal for "starfish" sleepers. Not all rooms are in tip top condition but the staff do attend to issues promptly or give you another room offer. There is a large contingency of maintenance staff, gardeners and cleaners all employed by the hotel. We had a refridgerator replaced because it was minus the door shelves for storing bottles of water/drinks. The evening entertainment takes place in what is described as the Show Factory. The shows are generally music/singing based. The venue is not a theatre but a hall with a bar, snooker tables and large TV screens for sports etc. at one end and the stage at the other. It has no acoustic properties so it is very loud and talking/singing is largely incoherent and in some case deafening. With an app on my phone I regularly recorded 90 decibels or more which is considered to be harmful over long periods of exposure. The sister hotel entertainment at the Hotel Barcelo Mar does have a theatre environment but again the acoustics are terrible and equally as loud. In general, Fuerteventura lacks good adult evening entertainment. There is a ceinema at the Atlantico Shopping Centre and on most Tuesdays you can find a film in English.

Dear Guest, We appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with us. We are sorry to hear that certain aspects of our resort did not meet your expectations during your stays. While we are glad to be situated so close to the beautiful Caleta beach, we acknowledge that the play area's location and the evening entertainment's volume have caused some inconvenience. Our goal is to provide a relaxing environment for all guests, and we take your comments to heart as we continuously strive to improve our services. We are pleased that you appreciate the variety and flexibility of our accommodations, and that our loyalty scheme has been beneficial to you. It's wonderful to hear that you've had positive interactions with our dedicated maintenance team and have found our rooms spacious and comfortable. We are proud of our recently refurbished bungalows and studios, designed to provide that 'home away from home' feeling in a traditional Canary Island style. We are hoping to welcome you back in the future. All the best. Giusy Spada Guest Experience Manager Barceló Fuerteventura Castillo

We have stay stayed here many times over the years, but every time we return we feel the reception staff and rooms are deteriorating. This year we decided to go self catering as I don't eat much for breakfast and I prefer to eat in my room or on the balcony and not in a room full of people. However, I feel because we were self-catering the reception staff treated us like lower class guests in the way they talked to us and treated us compared to the guests who were catering with them or were Royal Level, as I guess money talks. We also had to pay for our room safe this year unlike last year when we were B&B it was free. When I asked the young receptionist the reason for having to pay this year for the safe and was it because we were self-catering, she became flustered and said she didn't know. The location is great and near to everything. The rooms are nice and spacious and have comfortable beds, however they are getting tired and in need of maintenance and attention. The balcony sizes vary and some are connected to other room balconies, which I don't like for safety and privacy reasons, but are equipped with chairs, table and sun loungers, which I like as I don't enjoy sitting around the pool in front of everyone. Housekeeping staff are nice and friendly and visit everyday. The only nice thing that happened was when the hotel left a bottle of Cava and card in our room on my sons birthday, which was a really nice suprise. I feel that despite the great location, due to our experience at reception and how we felt undervalued as guests because we were self-catering, we will strongly consider looking for another place to stay next year.

Dear Guest, We appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with us. We are sorry to hear that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding the reception service and the sentiment that self-catering guests are treated differently. It is important for us to provide all guests with exceptional service, regardless of their chosen accommodation package. We apologize for any discomfort this may have caused and will review our policies to ensure consistent and equal treatment for all our visitors. Additionally, we regret to hear your concerns about the charge for the room safe and the condition of the rooms. We strive to maintain our facilities to a high standard, and we take your comments seriously as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our guest experience. We understand the importance of privacy and safety and are looking into the points you've raised about the balcony layout. We are delighted, however, that you found our housekeeping staff to be nice and friendly and that their daily visits added positively to your stay. It is also heartening to know that the birthday surprise we arranged was well received and contributed to making your son's day special. Finally, we are glad that you continue to enjoy our advantageous location, which offers proximity to the beach and local attractions. We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back on future occasions. Best regards, Giusy Spada Guest Experience Manager Barceló Fuerteventura Castillo

As a big fan of the Barcelo in Caleta we were really looking forward to trying out the Barcelo Castillo for the first time. Sad to say it was our first and last time however. Massively disappointed with the condition of the accommodation and there is no way this hotel should be rated as a 4* hotel. At best and at a stretch I’d say low 3*. The rooms are tired, in desperate need of renovation, shower is mouldy as is the tiles and the shower tray is cheap and moves around when you stand on it. The facilities for anyone choosing the self catering option are so minimal they are almost non existent. The microwave was broken, one of the cupboards had the lower shelf missing so was unusable and there were no cooking utensils of any description. In addition, there was no basics such as tea towel or washing up liquid provided.
The outside terrace looked straight into the room opposite which isn’t ideal so if you are staying there ask for an upper floor room as it provides a degree of privacy if you are sitting outside. As it was new year, there was no alternative rooms available so we had no choice other then to put up with the room allocated.
We have stayed at the Barcelo Royal adult level next door several times which is also rated 4* and I can honestly say is massively superior to the Castillo. I’m very happy that our next stay booked for March 2025 is once again in the Royal adult level and not in the Castillo.
The only positives about our stay was the friendliness of the staff and in particular the housekeeping team and also the the guest relations manager who listened to my complaint with sympathy and potential resolution.

Dear Finlaysathome, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your stay at Barceló Castillo. I'm sorry to hear that your experience fell short of expectations, particularly given your high regard for other Barceló properties. We deeply regret that the condition of the accommodation and its facilities did not meet your expectations. Your comments about the room's maintenance, the self-catering amenities, and the terrace's privacy have been noted and will be shared with the relevant teams to address these issues and prioritize improvements. It's also disappointing to hear that the microwave and other essentials were not in proper working condition. This does not align with the standards we aim to provide. Your feedback will help us focus on ensuring all rooms are better equipped and maintained moving forward. On a positive note, I’m glad that the friendliness of our staff and the support of our guest relations team stood out during your stay. It’s heartening to know they left a positive impression despite the challenges you faced. We appreciate your loyalty to the Barceló brand and are pleased that you will be returning to the Royal Level in March 2025. Rest assured that your feedback will be instrumental in helping us enhance the experience for future guests. Should you choose to give Barceló Castillo another chance in the future, we would love the opportunity to provide you with the high standard of stay you expect and deserve. Pension is well located, but the city center lacks animation. We were in half board formula, the cuisine is very average, lots of frozen products, no flavor or taste and not varied. Water is paid for at lunch or in the evening, the water fountain is available only in the morning at breakfast, the rest of the day paying, in open glass bottles, no mineral water.
The cleaning leaves much to be desired, dusty floor, bedding and towels are changed regularly.

Dear Director,

I am writing to express my displeasure regarding my recent stay at your hotel. My low score is due not to the employees, who were very attentive and friendly, but to the lack of effectiveness in responding to my repeated requests for services for which I had already paid.

To start with, together with my online booking I requested a pack of Canary Islands Delicacies for my arrival on October 26, worth 25 euros, which included cheeses and wine. I claimed it on Sunday morning 27 in reception, during breakfast in the buffet area, and finally in reception in the evening. The assistant director told me that it had been a mistake and that on Monday she would receive it because the manager had been clueless. Finally, I received it on Monday at 6 pm.

Regarding the room facilities, the hot tub was dirty and produced no bubbles. We had to clean it ourselves because nobody came to do it. We went to the Hyperdino to buy cleaning utensils to enjoy it at least a little, although it only worked as a hot tub as the jets lacked strength.

Besides, we never saw the person in charge of cleaning the room. We had to ask a worker in another hallway if she could do us a favor to change our towels, as our cleaner forgot. This employee was very nice, by the way. I want to highlight that on Monday they did the room very well.

As for the buffet, although the food was plentiful and tasteful, there was little variety between the days. My complaint here is that I paid for a deluxe service, which supposedly included certain different meals and a more premium place in restaurants. However, I was surprised to see that people without my bracelet sat in my area, collected food and consumed it there. I find it unacceptable that I should pay more for something if there is no minimum check on it afterwards, which left me feeling unhappy.

All these minor inconveniences have made my hotel experience disappointing, and I would not recommend it to my friends. I sincerely hope that the hotel can make the necessary changes, as they are small aspects that, if improved, can make a big difference.

Attentively,
Efrén García

It is a shame that with the category and price of the hotel they are not up to par in terms of room maintenance.
When we arrived, the garden area, both the hammocks and the hydromassage bathtub, were very dirty and the bathtub did not work.
We called the reception and after a while they came, they solved it quickly and homely to get us out of trouble.
Even that garden area was missing a pole in the hotel fence area so anyone from the promenade could come in to take a bath with us. And it wasn't the only one during the walk we saw several similar rooms.
Ants walking around the kitchen area, broken towel racks, in short, we think that when they know that they have to deliver a room they should first check that it is in correct delivery conditions.
Cleaning in the room is absent, they only change sheets and towels. Without further ado.
In the buffet restaurant we also saw ants in 2 different places in the DE LUXE area, which is unacceptable in a hotel of this level.
To consider, that having a shared Spa they should have it in a more intermediate area since when you see what you have to move if you are at the other end of the Resort you won't even go.
We also consider that they should have an all-inclusive that was truly ALL-INCLUSIVE, since the options they offer do not give you the right to enjoy everything in the Resort, especially in restaurants.

On the other hand, we can say that we enjoyed the stay.
The beds and pillows are very comfortable and the room is totally silent.
The hotel is very nice and very quiet, the location and surroundings are great.
The buffet is of good quality and very varied.
The treatment of the staff in general is very friendly and pleasant.
Especially highlighting the charming Laura and Marina in restoration, you couldn't ask for more.
The stay was good and pleasant, but we were a little disappointed by the aforementioned aspects that break the magic of this beautiful Resort.

Best family holiday yet all thanks to staying at the Barcelo Hotel de Castillo!! It was very clean, modern and exceeded our expectations. Not only was the hotel lovely, there is a fabulous port and beach as part of the hotel complex. The port was great in the day with lots of excursions and water sports to offer. Then in the evening it is all lite up and has a gorgeous vibe for evening food and cocktails. There is even music or dancers adding to the atmosphere. We also had access to the neighbouring hotel the Barcelo De Mar so it felt like we had two hotels for the price of one!! We felt the Barcelo De Castillo was quieter and more private as we stayed in a beautiful bungalow which had a lounge, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and private terrace - this fronted the ocean and we felt it offered more space than your usual hotel room. It was perfect for the 4 of us and the cleaners came everyday to refresh as needed. There is a heated pool in the Barcelo De Mar.All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful!! They were so thoughtful too and a credit to the hotel!! Pina Coladas were amazing- particularly the ones from beach bar!! Beach bar also had a huge choice of slushy for kids. The hotel is close to the airport and you can see aeroplanes coming into land, but they do not fly directly overhead the hotel and it genuinely did not affect us although other people may feel differently. When it was hot the swimming pool was so refreshing and clean. Beautiful landscape of pool, ruins, port and beach. Friendly and welcoming staff, good choice of food and made a difference having access to the other hotel. Two choices of buffet restaurants. Outside area of buffet restaurant is gorgeous and breakfast is fab!!! Further restaurants to try if wanted. Felt safe with children and clean. Would recommend 5*!! Can't wait to come back one day!! Huge thank you to ALL of the staff who worked really hard to help us have a wonderful holiday- especially the kind cleaner who arranged for a free bottle of cava to appear in our room for my husbands birthday!! So grateful!! From the Brittons x

We went for 5 nights half board at barcelo castillo and stayed in 2 bungalows close to each other near reception. My bungalow on 1st floor was in better condition than ground floor and kept clean everyday, so there were no cockroaches or ants or broken bathroom tiles. We had a side sea view on the balcony overlooking the swimming pool and ocean.

Beds are very comfortable, rooms close to reception have good beach and swimming pool access, a few mins walk to mafasca restaurant for meals and to most facilities except thallaso spa and gym which isn't closeby. Try to get rooms in 3001-3126 (I think this is block E)? For some reason I couldn't connect or cast my phone onto the TV so bring a roku or fire stick if you want to watch Netflix etc.

Kitchen on the other hand didn't have any washing liquid and you have to buy milk or pay for a tea tray service, so we bought milk from the mini market on the resort. The gentleman looking after the mini market is friendly. We also paid €15 for a safe for 5 nights, one safe between 2 bungalows is sufficient.

Breakfast and lunch at mafasca was decent but dinner was awful so we ate at tindaya one night which was lovely, book tindaya through reception as the app doesnt always work. We also swapped dinner for lunch at mafasca for most days. Food isnt labelled properly everytime e.g. they do serve halal chicken and lamb and no cross contamination in kitchen for vegetarians.

We found plenty of restaurants outside of the hotel such as Aromas, punjabi masala, chiringuito la isla on the beach, la dolce vita, hanami and many more within a short walking distance. Didn't bother with Mexican restaurant that wanted to charge over €30 pp after we paid half board. Green bar during daytime was good - they gave me a non alcoholic drink on the house when I offered to pay.

All staff members were polite and friendly, the gentleman on reception who helped call for a local Dr for my mum was great and Marina (tour manager) aswell as her colleague ucie were lovely and helped with a refund for a missed excursion.

I did have a relaxing time and overall enjoyed my stay but I would prefer to try the sister hotel barcelo fuerteventura mar next time...they have a heated pool, better entertainment and much better restaurant for dinner aswell as a decent lobby/reception to relax in. The only issue I had was the long check in process, my mum's bungalow was ready upon arrival but we had to wait for both rooms to be available before she got her key.

This week we returned from our holiday in the new destination Barceló Fuerteventura Castillo and we have extensively evaluated our holiday. I would like to share that evaluation with you.
Starting with the resort. It is beautifully laid out with spacious paths and greenery between the enclosures, well maintained gardens between the bungalows. The bungalows are also well maintained and look beautiful.
The staff for garden maintenance and cleaning the bungalows were all extremely friendly and very customer-oriented. This supports a good holiday atmosphere.
Also the staff in the restaurant were very friendly and provided a very good service. With an all inclusive holiday, that is of course very important.
One critical note: some of the receptive's staff were a little less friendly and provided limited information about the park, its facilities and its operations.
Super was our bungalow with sea view from ded bedroom and terrace, a fantastic location! When booking this holiday, we were able to consult extensively with the employees in advance to arrive at a suitable bungalow with a great location within this resort, taking our circumstances into account!

In short, except for a few points, we are very excited and will go to Barceló Fuerteventura Castillo again next autumn!
