It was our first time staying at Barcelo, as previously we had a timeshare at Castillo Beach Club (at the top of the big hill!), and after reading all the negative reviews about the hotel's cleanliness and service, I was anxious about what we would expect. On arrival to the hotel, we were greeted with really friendly staff and although we couldn't get into our bungalow (we had 2 superior bungalows for our party of 6) until 3pm, the staff enabled us to store our cases safely so that we could use the facilities while we waited.
The main pools were brilliant, lots of activities for the children to do in the day - water aerobics and beer yoga were super fun! On day 2, we found another pool by the Barcy Club which we realised was nearer to our block (1E), and this was great for the children where sun loungers weren't an issue to find and the location was much nearer to our room.
Food in the hotel was brilliant; breakfast, lunch and dinners gave a brilliant selection with lots of variety for the children with fresh omelettes, pancakes, fish and meats cooked daily at each mealtimes. As part of the all inclusive package we had 2 tokens per family to have a meal at the Mar hotel (the brazilian and Mexican restaurants were brilliant but booking was required as availability was quite sparse). The Barcelo resort enabled us to use the Sports Bar by the Marina where drinks were included as part of our package, again this was a real hit and a beautiful view with our evening drinks.
Cleanliness and service in the hotel was a real 10/10 for us. Staff were friendly and always greeted us on each visit to the restaurants. Service was quick and drinks were always available during table service. Cleanliness around the complex was fantastic; maids came in each day and changed bedding when we requested (by popping the sign on the front door). Staff were always visibly cleaning the pool areas, toilets, restaurants and the communal areas cannot be faulted!
The beach is wonderful for a day on the beach or an evening walk/game of volleyball, crazy golf was super fun and was a good price, electric scooters were a real hit with the children too. The market, on Saturdays and Tuesdays was a good experience too.
It really was a wonderful experience staying at Barcelo Castillo and we are already booking again for next year. Please don't read all the negative reviews; yes, sunbeds can be taken quickly, yes the food gets a bit 'samey', but if you're coming to a popular hotel and resort during peak season, what do you expect!!
Thank you Barcelo for giving us a wonderful time away 🙂

The outside terrace looked straight into the room opposite which isn’t ideal so if you are staying there ask for an upper floor room as it provides a degree of privacy if you are sitting outside. As it was new year, there was no alternative rooms available so we had no choice other then to put up with the room allocated.
We have stayed at the Barcelo Royal adult level next door several times which is also rated 4* and I can honestly say is massively superior to the Castillo. I’m very happy that our next stay booked for March 2025 is once again in the Royal adult level and not in the Castillo.
The only positives about our stay was the friendliness of the staff and in particular the housekeeping team and also the the guest relations manager who listened to my complaint with sympathy and potential resolution.
The cleaning leaves much to be desired, dusty floor, bedding and towels are changed regularly.
I am writing to express my displeasure regarding my recent stay at your hotel. My low score is due not to the employees, who were very attentive and friendly, but to the lack of effectiveness in responding to my repeated requests for services for which I had already paid.
To start with, together with my online booking I requested a pack of Canary Islands Delicacies for my arrival on October 26, worth 25 euros, which included cheeses and wine. I claimed it on Sunday morning 27 in reception, during breakfast in the buffet area, and finally in reception in the evening. The assistant director told me that it had been a mistake and that on Monday she would receive it because the manager had been clueless. Finally, I received it on Monday at 6 pm.
Regarding the room facilities, the hot tub was dirty and produced no bubbles. We had to clean it ourselves because nobody came to do it. We went to the Hyperdino to buy cleaning utensils to enjoy it at least a little, although it only worked as a hot tub as the jets lacked strength.
Besides, we never saw the person in charge of cleaning the room. We had to ask a worker in another hallway if she could do us a favor to change our towels, as our cleaner forgot. This employee was very nice, by the way. I want to highlight that on Monday they did the room very well.
As for the buffet, although the food was plentiful and tasteful, there was little variety between the days. My complaint here is that I paid for a deluxe service, which supposedly included certain different meals and a more premium place in restaurants. However, I was surprised to see that people without my bracelet sat in my area, collected food and consumed it there. I find it unacceptable that I should pay more for something if there is no minimum check on it afterwards, which left me feeling unhappy.
All these minor inconveniences have made my hotel experience disappointing, and I would not recommend it to my friends. I sincerely hope that the hotel can make the necessary changes, as they are small aspects that, if improved, can make a big difference.
Attentively,
Efrén García
When we arrived, the garden area, both the hammocks and the hydromassage bathtub, were very dirty and the bathtub did not work.
We called the reception and after a while they came, they solved it quickly and homely to get us out of trouble.
Even that garden area was missing a pole in the hotel fence area so anyone from the promenade could come in to take a bath with us. And it wasn't the only one during the walk we saw several similar rooms.
Ants walking around the kitchen area, broken towel racks, in short, we think that when they know that they have to deliver a room they should first check that it is in correct delivery conditions.
Cleaning in the room is absent, they only change sheets and towels. Without further ado.
In the buffet restaurant we also saw ants in 2 different places in the DE LUXE area, which is unacceptable in a hotel of this level.
To consider, that having a shared Spa they should have it in a more intermediate area since when you see what you have to move if you are at the other end of the Resort you won't even go.
We also consider that they should have an all-inclusive that was truly ALL-INCLUSIVE, since the options they offer do not give you the right to enjoy everything in the Resort, especially in restaurants.
On the other hand, we can say that we enjoyed the stay.
The beds and pillows are very comfortable and the room is totally silent.
The hotel is very nice and very quiet, the location and surroundings are great.
The buffet is of good quality and very varied.
The treatment of the staff in general is very friendly and pleasant.
Especially highlighting the charming Laura and Marina in restoration, you couldn't ask for more.
The stay was good and pleasant, but we were a little disappointed by the aforementioned aspects that break the magic of this beautiful Resort.

Beds are very comfortable, rooms close to reception have good beach and swimming pool access, a few mins walk to mafasca restaurant for meals and to most facilities except thallaso spa and gym which isn't closeby. Try to get rooms in 3001-3126 (I think this is block E)? For some reason I couldn't connect or cast my phone onto the TV so bring a roku or fire stick if you want to watch Netflix etc.
Kitchen on the other hand didn't have any washing liquid and you have to buy milk or pay for a tea tray service, so we bought milk from the mini market on the resort. The gentleman looking after the mini market is friendly. We also paid €15 for a safe for 5 nights, one safe between 2 bungalows is sufficient.
Breakfast and lunch at mafasca was decent but dinner was awful so we ate at tindaya one night which was lovely, book tindaya through reception as the app doesnt always work. We also swapped dinner for lunch at mafasca for most days. Food isnt labelled properly everytime e.g. they do serve halal chicken and lamb and no cross contamination in kitchen for vegetarians.
We found plenty of restaurants outside of the hotel such as Aromas, punjabi masala, chiringuito la isla on the beach, la dolce vita, hanami and many more within a short walking distance. Didn't bother with Mexican restaurant that wanted to charge over €30 pp after we paid half board. Green bar during daytime was good - they gave me a non alcoholic drink on the house when I offered to pay.
All staff members were polite and friendly, the gentleman on reception who helped call for a local Dr for my mum was great and Marina (tour manager) aswell as her colleague ucie were lovely and helped with a refund for a missed excursion.
I did have a relaxing time and overall enjoyed my stay but I would prefer to try the sister hotel barcelo fuerteventura mar next time...they have a heated pool, better entertainment and much better restaurant for dinner aswell as a decent lobby/reception to relax in. The only issue I had was the long check in process, my mum's bungalow was ready upon arrival but we had to wait for both rooms to be available before she got her key.
Starting with the resort. It is beautifully laid out with spacious paths and greenery between the enclosures, well maintained gardens between the bungalows. The bungalows are also well maintained and look beautiful.
The staff for garden maintenance and cleaning the bungalows were all extremely friendly and very customer-oriented. This supports a good holiday atmosphere.
Also the staff in the restaurant were very friendly and provided a very good service. With an all inclusive holiday, that is of course very important.
One critical note: some of the receptive's staff were a little less friendly and provided limited information about the park, its facilities and its operations.
Super was our bungalow with sea view from ded bedroom and terrace, a fantastic location! When booking this holiday, we were able to consult extensively with the employees in advance to arrive at a suitable bungalow with a great location within this resort, taking our circumstances into account!
In short, except for a few points, we are very excited and will go to Barceló Fuerteventura Castillo again next autumn!
