We spent two weeks touring around the South Island and considered this to be one of the best B&B's we stayed in - we originally booked one night stay but returned for another.

This custom built house overlooks the sea and surrounding farm land. The only detraction from this beautiful view is the meal cooked up by Sari and Reto - wonderful.

We could not recommend it more.

Rather staying here than in five star luxury hotel. I had a really nice stay. Rooms were outstanding as the views from the balcony. I have traveled lot and I absolutely this was on of the best visits that I ever have had. Rooms were very clean, shared bathroom was also awesome. Nice kitchen & living room was decorated very nicely and breakfast& dinner was really good. If you are staying in Waimate, you should definitely pick this one. Only thing that I was sad about, was the fact that I had to leave...

We stayed in the Daisy room for two nights in early Jan. I have stayed in many B&Bs all over the world and this has to rank as one of the best.

We arrived in CHC from Canada midday and drove to Waimate immediately. I thought the drive was manageable, especially considering the two days without sleeping while traveling. Once in Waimate, the B&B was easy to find. We just followed the yellow signs saying Gunn's Bush. Many locals don't think there is much too see in Waimate but it’s a cute town and a great staging area for day trips into Waitaki and Central Otago.

The location of the B&B is fabulous! It runs alongside gorgeous native bush, with a driveway lined with flax plants full of bird life - and yes - we even saw a wallaby (as you do in Waimate).

The room was very clean, and uniquely decorated, as was the remainder of the house. It was quiet and had a great view onto a large balcony. I remember not seeing photos of the bathroom on the website but it was perhaps my favourite room. Full of wood with a large glass wall looking into the bush, so you had the sense of being outside while in a sort of "luxury" spa feel.

Food was also great and we had dinner there the second night. I thought it was great value and comparable to what you might receive in any restaurant. They also have a cafe-grade espresso machine that Sari is keen to use.

Reto and Sari were also very friendly and knowledgeable hosts. They made us feel so welcomed that I sort of forgot we were staying at a B&B. It almost felt like we were at friends of ours that we had known for a while, and we're not the most outgoing people.

I'd very much stay here again and left disappointed that I hadn't booked in for longer.

Starnight is a lovely rustic, character home with attention to artistic detail and interesting quirks everywhere. Reto and Sari were the perfect hosts; funny, helpful and friendly. Two of our teenage kids came with us and they loved it too.

We can’t recommend Starnight highly enough! Reto and Sari were wonderful hosts and we really enjoyed their company; it felt like we were relaxing with old friends we had known for years rather than staying at a B and B! They also know the area well so could provide us with lots of information about the available activities.
The B and B itself is nothing short of amazing. It’s nestled in native bush and has been built using Scandinavian design elements. We loved the way they had used the space and the views were wonderful. The bedroom we stayed in was just lovely, and the bathroom was beautiful, with native bush views. Everything was scrupulously clean and the breakfasts were absolutely delicious.
If you would like an experience where you can truly “get away from it all” without having to travel too far off the beaten track, then Starnight is for you. Just don’t book it on the nights we want it - we will definitely be back!
Thanks, Reto and Sari!

Our hosts Reto & Sari were so welcoming! We really enjoyed spending time with them and discussing our various trips and experiences. Their place is delightful and very relaxing. Wish we had stayed longer than one night. Definitely recommend.

Excellent B&B outside Waimate. Very peaceful place. New fresh house with lots of character. High ceilings, gorgeous living room with open kitchen and all rooms are beautifully decorated. Shared bathroom. It's run by a very friendly couple who do their upmost to satisfy yours needs. They will also serve you tasty meals. Great bush walk nearby. Hammock, bicycles and a small swimming pool for guests to use. Highly recommended.

I have traveled extensively and have never stayed in such a beautiful bed and breakfast. It is an amazing location with incredible views and the B&B is wonderfully decorated. Reto and Sari are fantastic hosts, such lovely people who share their home with you. I had a wonderful time, I only wish I could have stayed longer in their beautiful eco-friendly B&B. When I come back to NZ I will definitely be staying here again. I would recommend this place to everybody, it is paradise.

We had a very short but very sweet stay at Starnight B&B. It is a lovely clean, eco friendly B&B with wonderful hosts and an amazing setting. The food and company were fantastic and we will surely be back! We arrived in the dark and left in the dark but our one night stay was very memorable and Sari and Reto so inviting and interesting. Well done guys, see you soon!
