Review of the basic cabins; the tourist cabins with ensuite are modern and rated highly but were unavailable for us. There is one block of cabins, containing a double bed, single bunk bed, chair, table and small fan heater. All the furnishings are dated (c. 1980s) and it is byo linen & pillows & towels etc. If you are not visiting in summer, be sure to bring very warm blankets as the small heater was too loud to leave on during the night and there is no other heating and little insulation. Next to the cabins is a kitchen/lounge and ablutions block - only 2 toilets and 1 shower per sex. Kitchen has lots of appliances and pans etc but is as tired as everything else. We didn't use them and ate out anyway. Overall, for a last minute booking at $30pp on the eve of school holidays, it was adequate and good in a fix but be prepared for the level of facilities. Great location too.

This was our first canoe trip as a family with friends. Before the canoe trip this was our meeting place before the big day on Saturday morning. Once we arrived it was full of campers on one side of the camp ground and the other side were lots of tents. It was a very clean park with available clean bathrooms and showers.

We only stayed one night on a powered site. Price was reasonable at $30 NZD for the night. Waimate is a good sized town but it would have been a bit of a walk into the town from the park. The facilities were very average - showers and toilets could do with a tidy up. Kitchen also was a bit shabby. Despite that the facilities were all quite usable. We liked the town of Waimate so it was worth a visit.
