Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very clean, accomodating and well appointed little lodge. Small, no frills but cosy and everything you need. I had booked 2 mountain view Queen studios on the ground floor as I was travelling with my mum who couldn’t manage the stairs. These were perfect, with glass sliders facing Mt Cook and the Aoraki range and a small outdoor setting to enjoy the view with a glass of wine. We still enjoyed dinner at The Hermitage without paying the huge hotel price tag.

Positives: - Location: in the heart of Mt Cook Village, with a beautiful view of the mountains from the communal lounge - Deluxe Studio with mountain view: located on the ground floor, with easy access from outside (if you're lucky, you'll find a parking spot just few steps away) - Small kitchenette in the room with mini fridge, microwave, kettle and basic utensils (complementary tea/coffee and milk were provided) - Access to a communal kitchen and lounge area upstairs - Efficient heater in the room - Free WiFi - Room was serviced every day Negatives: - The room was oddly shaped, which made it feel cramped - Bathroom: wet rug smell, low water pressure, nowhere to put our toiletries - No bin bags provided - Very thin walls: could hear the neighbours snoring all night long - 2 channels on TV - 2% credit card payment surcharge, so bring cash

Received a warm welcome, our room was downstairs with easy access from outside as well as inside. Our car was parked right out the front. We had a small porch with table & chairs to enjoy the fresh clean air. Bed was comfy, small sofa, small kitchenette but everything clean. Only observation for improvement (not a criticism) would be to add more shelf space in the bathroom. If course the big winner was the awesome view. Loved it.

Stayed at the Lodge one night; the room was warm, functional, tidy and a good size. Beds were fine, clean and we all slept very well in the mountain air. Friendly staff on the front desk also. Just what was needed for a brief overnight stay - thanks to the team

Rooms We booked the room with mount cook view. It’s superb. Regret didn’t book a longer stay.. but again, it’s very hard to secure a booking as it’s mostly fully booked. Location: It’s v near to the Hermitage hotel where the hotel has a lot of other activities and tours. It’s also very near the start of the various treks. Others: There’s shared kitchen and a mini mart. You can buy the groceries there and cook at the kitchen. The view at the kitchen is fabulous!

My wife and I stayed here recently and the location is great. On a good day you can see Mt Cook in all its glory but the hotel itself is average at best. Where you want to stay is the Hermitage but unfortunately it was full the two days we were there. We still spent all of our time in the Hermitage Hotel. They have a really nice restaurant, Wonderful Gift Shop, Museum, Alpine Center etc. our hotel had nothing but shared refrigerators on the second floor. The room was incredibly small, the bed uncomfortable. The desk had very limited hours of operation. There was no reason to be there except to sleep. Parking was OK. The woman at the desk was nice but not that helpful, had no people skills. Again, where you want to stay is the Hermitage. The difference is daylight and dark. I would say it is like a 5 star and a 1 star difference. Be sure and do the ski plane or helicopter tour while in the Mt Cook Village. We had a perfect day! They said they get a day like that 1 out of 200 days, not a cloud in the sky.

A great place to stay if you want to cook for yourself. Amazing view from the communal area with a great balcony. Room was clean and comfy and also had the view ( room 9 !) . Kitchen has loads of equipment for any cooking and lots of fridge space for your food . Highly recommended in this price range . No supermarkets so buy food on the way or eat at the hotel ( amazing food ) for all you can eat buffet

We stayed here one night so that we could hike the Hooker Track before heading to Christchurch. This lodge is very clean and quiet, and very basic. Probably better suited for hikers and campers than people like us who were traveling around the country with a sizable amount of luggage. Our room did have a great view of Mt. Cook. The bed was very comfortable and the bed linens were so cozy! The room had a small kitchenette. There is a communal cooking area on the second floor of the lodge where guests can cook meals. The lodge does not serve food. You can get dinner (must make reservations) and breakfast at the Hermitage which is just a 5-min walk up the road. There was no storage space to speak of in the room. These are not meant as criticisms so much as pointing out what potential guests should expect.

We chose to stay in the Chalet even though we we just a couple. Best decision ever. Equipped with everything we needed. Very warm and cosy with extremely comfortable bed/s fitted with an electric blanket. With a bbq, stove, microwave and fully functional kitchen it made our stay even better. We cooked our own breakfast, lunch and dinner which meant we ate on our own timetable. Plus we had the best backdrop ever, Mt Cook was right there it was just stunning. Close to everything we wanted to explore. Our 3 day stay was exceptional!

Room was very small, only room for bed and small table. Very basic in view of price. Excellent view of the mountains which I assume is what you pay for. Shared kitchen area that was chaos every evening with too small an area for more than a few people at a time to cook. Large shared lounge area available but unfortunately for us, a very large family with many children took over the entire space every day and night. Equity of this shared space was not monitored by staff as there only appeared to be one staff member who was at the front desk. Bad weather meant we therefore spent several days in our tiny room. If you can afford it, the Hermitage Hotel appears to be a better option. Reception staff person was lovely and helpful.
