The rooms are spread out in blocks and you can collect your key from reception and then park outside your room which was handy. The rooms are very large and modern and it's a slightly impersonal place to stay but it was just perfect after staying quite a few nights in B&Bs, it was nice to just be in our own space. There is a washing/drying room very reasonably priced with clothes dryers to borrow too, so was nice to have some clean clothes. We thought it was a shame not to have any seats outside but took the chairs out to our terrace area and enjoyed the view. The next morning there was wind/rain and we knew that any furniture would have been blown away. Check in/out quite regimented but that wasn't a problem for us. Loved our short stay.

This is a relatively new motel . We had the executive spa room . It was big with another sitting area with sofa and a fantastic view.
The furniture and amenities in the room are thoughtfully laid out. The kitchenette had a stove though if you cook fish or spices , the hotel will charge extra for cleaning. Cutlery , pots and pans are adequate together with knives, scissors etc for cooking.
The toilet had a big spa with strong hot water pressure.
The beds are comfortable though a bit on the softer side.
The TV faced the bed well and wifi was Super fast .
Heating was very adequate .
Would definitely stay again though it was a little pricey.

We had a lovely 3-night stay. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a large bathroom, plus a well equiped kitchen. The property is well located, away from the 'crowd'.

The bed was very comfortable, which gave us a good rest each night, and ready for another day of hiking.

Helen and Gary were great welcoming hosts who ensured that we had all the necessary information about the room and location of places we could have a meal.

Couldn't resist having a run around the village. It's about 2.1 km.

Will stay here again when we return for another adventure.

For any traveller to Aoraki/Mt Cook intending to cook you own meal, ensure that you shop beforehand. The nearest grocery store is 65+ km in Twizel.

We rented a 2 bedroom unit and it was spacious and cleanish. The sliding door had many kids hand prints on them but you only noticed in the morning when the sun shone through otherwise the bedding was clean, the lounge comfortable and managers very informative and welcoming. As only the dining facilities in the Hermitage were available and extremely pricey it would have been better if we had brought food and catered in the unit as there was a full kitchen.

We had booked a 2 night stay in a studio room at a bargain rate but chose to upgrade to Room 11 (5 bed apartment) on the night we arrived - it was a fantastic decision - uninterrupted picture postcard views from every room, a well equipped kitchen and spa bath in bathroom. Warm and comfortable on a winter's day especially with the underfloor heating in the tiled areas. Great access to the village and walks too while being in a nice and quiet location. Hosts very helpful too. Couldn't fault it really

The view from our patio was amazing we were able to see shooting stars and the milky way too!. We glad we booked a room with a spa bath (it is huge). The room is very spacious and the small kitchen has everything you need to cook if you are traveling in a budget.

We booked 2 bedrooms unit for our stay during September 2023. My family come from a very hot country but were well prepared for the alpine conditions. I am an NZ citizen and well aware of how to stay warm in our beautiful South Island.

I was so excited to bring my family here in a place that has fantastic reviews but unfortunately so many things have fallen below the acceptable standard of any alpine accommodation provider.

Firstly, our unit was not ready at check in time indicated at 2pm, the lady at reception kept saying that room will be available soon because there is some problem in a shower that staffs were trying to fix and our unit was second to last unit for them to clean.

Secondly, at 2:40pm after finally being able to check in and were surprised by some of the rules relating to cooking salmon, seafood or curry type meals in the room. I totally understand where they are coming from in relarion to curry type meals, however salmon is a local delicacy and not known to be particularly orderous.

To inform guests at check in of the hotels preferences is a bit late, dining options are very limited here in Mt.Cook. Many guests (including my group of 4) brought our own groceries here so we can cook while stay at Mt.Cook. We are not backpacker types but having traveled here with my husband before I was well aware of the shortcomings of local dining options.

Thirdly, all 3 of our wall heaters stopped working after we turned them on for 2 hours. I called the reception, a staff member came to look at it. He went to check at motherboard but unfortunately he could not fix and he had to bring 2 SMALL Goldair heaters to our unit as a partial substitute, not suitable in an extremely Cold Climate such as Mt. Cook when you come from a climate that averages above 30°c.

We are so disappointed of the service and restrictions placed on us as guests, when considering the high rack rate that we paid.

If anyone wants to stay here, I would say don't check in on time because your room might not be ready. Call in advance, tell them what time you will be there and test every appliance before unpacking your bags.

We were not compensated in any way for our delayed check in, nor the lack of sufficient heating (even under the healthy homes act in a residential setting). It was snowing freezing, and we were left out in the cold.

Hi there Jsirij, I am sorry to hear about your experience with us when you were here. We have been busy hence the need to check in after 2pm but yes, this could have been handled better. The cooking notice does actually relate to Salmon as well, when cooked in an oven it is quite smelly and without appropriate ventilation smells can linger throughout the unit. The heating issue was due to a boiler malfunction, and we are very apologetic with this. The units are well insulated, but the radiators still need to be operable. Overall, I am sorry to hear of these issues. Take care and safe travels.

We had an absolutely stunning drive here from Christchurch on Day 24 of our dream Holiday. Heading through the heart of South Island, crossing the vast Canterbury Plains, by passing the town of Geraldine (made us smile thinking of Peter Kay) before crossing into Mackenzie Country. Heading over BurkesPass we arrived at the picturesque town of Tekapo. Lake Tekapo is New Zealand’s highest lake and it’s turquoise colour is astounding. Just 30 mins drive from Tekapo is Mount Cook National Park. - a rugged and beautiful environment encompassing 19 peaks, the tallest of which is Aoraki Mount Cook, New Zealand’s highest mountain at 3754 mtrswhich can be seen from the southern end of Lake Oukaki.
The owner checked us in- very friendly and helpful guy - and we were impressed with our spacious and comfortable room. The view was awesome
We made the short walk to Mount Cook Lidge where the Chamois Bar & Grill served us up a tasty meal with beer, wine and coffee
We slept really soundly despite the wind and rain which gathered momentum over night
This is a spectacular place and it would have been nice to have spent more than 1 night here

I had the jacuzzi room, room 9.

Fiona is very welcoming, warm and hospitable. The room includes a handy folder which orientates you to the locale with maps, trails and other essential details.

The room is very spacious, with a decently sized kitchen/pantry by the entrance equipped with cutleries and kitchenware. There's also a nice study next to the bed. The room just felt really roomy and there was so much space paired with the large windows. It just felt like a worthwhile experience, almost too much to experience alone on my own. This would be a great room to share with a couple or a couple of friends.

The nature of the layout meant, however, that I could not keep the curtains open all the time since everyone would be able to see whatever I am doing in my room. (My room was facing the entrant doors and the parking lots of various other motels)

The toilet of this space was the highlight since that's where the jacuzzi tub was. I only booked this room because all the other rooms were fully booked. Still, I could not resist enjoying a bubbling hot tub soak on a cold winter night. It's a nice heart-shaped tub that's good for two, even better for one since I had the entire tub to myself. The jets were powerful, and most importantly, the tub was very clean! The water and heating were fantastic, the water got hot quickly even on a cold winter night. The toilet and the entrance was tiled, but they were heated which made for a nice experience walking around barefooted.

Every morning, I'd wake up to the ever-changing alpine landscape above. I feel safe and warm from my stay here, and would recommend others to give this motel a try as well.

We bought groceries in Wanaka before driving to Mt Cook and got gas in Twizel. The rooms have coffee and tea provided. We didn't use the washing machines while we were there, so I can't speak to that.

Hi. Our two bedroom units have 1 bathroom. if you need two bathrooms, then you will need to book 2 studios. Check with the local restaurants regarding menus for local dining. You should not need snow chains at that time of year.
