Methven Resort is unfortunately very tired and desperately needs a revamp.
The room was adequate but it seemed strange that, given the hotel appeared more than half empty, that we were given a back room overlooking the carpark and the bins.
Bathroom and kitchen supplies/appliances were minimal and the furniture is old and cheap. We got a good laugh out of the choice of artwork!
The roof sloped in such a way that you couldn't stand up fully on one side of the bed without cracking your head on the ceiling.
Thankfully the room was clean and the bed comfortable. And staff were welcoming.
If you want a seriously no-frills option - this is for you.

Stayed with my daughter for a ski trip. The team here are friendly, have great restaurant and bar on site, rooms are large and really well appointed. It's also just a hop, skip and jump to Mt Hutt. The customer service was also top notch and they had great suggestions for activities to do while in town. I'll be coming back!

Hard to fault for the cost. We went in the off season and it was completely fine. Room was clean, nice sheets, free breakfast. Only a few guests and our rooms were kindly all separated. The stairs and breakfast area and music hilariously felt like an old cruise ship which was fun.
The down stairs bar was closed as expected so no darts or pool table.
If you want a cheap but comfortable place to stay in the off season I’d recommend. Expect it could be loud and busy in the ski season.

Really terrible experience, I would not recommend. First night the spot lights in car park lit up our room because the thin curtains weren't adequate, our sleep was impacted. Staff were polite and apologized but that didn't make up for the issue, they put better curtains up. Second night was party central upstairs and we were kept awake by guests upstairs. I would not recommend this over priced stress inducing, sleep reducing place. It's not a resort. Sadly our first stay in April was fine hence why we returned...we will nor be back.

This place is nothing like the photos
Do Not stay here
Hardly any staff
They’re argumentive
Place is old and unclean
No swimming pool etc
No alcohol licence
Rooms are old. Holes covered over on walls
Food is brought in for each meal.
Not a lot of choice no menu.
Tv is hopeless.
Just everything about the place is wrong. Like a time capsules being reopened
Understand developers from away have purchased. Best thing for it would be to put a bulldozer through it.

Our stay at the Methven Resort was nothing "resort like" at all.

My friend and I purchased 2 alcoholic drinks at the bar after we checked in. The owner saw my friend consuming her beer in a public space within the resort and then accused her of not having purchased the beer from the bar and drinking something that had been brought into the resort. We tried to explain that this was not the case at all and would be happy to go up to the bar and get the bar staff to confirm we had indeed purchased it from them! We were left with a snarky "yeah right sure did" basically belittling us and implying we were lying.

The altercation we had with this lady was the following day - on heading back into the "resort" mid morning we were bailed up at the entrance by her once again we were accused of having 4 adults sleep in a room with only one double bed. We explained to her that this was not the case but yes we had a couple of friends come visit us and we had stayed up most of the night chatting having a few drinks in our room (which I never knew there were visiting hours/restrictions on this) Fair enough if there was, however the manner in which we were spoken to by this lady and her husband were totally unacceptable. I also offered to show her the reservation details for our friends who were staying at a bar up the road to prove they did have their own place to stay - a snarky response was given saying she didn't want to see it.

We asked to have our second night refunded and went and found elsewhere to stay for the duration of our time in Methven.

All in all a totally disappointing experience and some serious lessons on how you treat your PAYING customers would go far for this couple!

Response from , Owner at Methven Resort

Your group (which I'm sure you lied about, as when I mentioned you to them they had no idea who you were) was briefed by the organizers that there was a zero tolerance of alcohol being drunk around the resort that day, I had let it go the first night but it was not going to be a repeat the second. As your room was full of boxes of beer and you were walking in with more and a bottle of spirits we chose to let you know prior to coming in. Camera evidence shows you and your friends walking down the stairs frequently with beer, as we are a licensed premise I am responsible for the alcohol consumed in here. Your room was a double bed that you had booked for yourself and your girlfriend, we saw the boys leaving in the early hours of the morning , whether or not you were sleeping, your room was booked and paid for 2 people not 4. I did not appreciate being lied to from you and your abusive boyfriends, so choosing another hotel was the best option for you and us. Thank you.

Honestly, it's not new, but it was clean, cheap and brilliant staff that, went out of there way to give an enjoyable stay.
Cheapest stay in methven. And the new people running it are brilliant.
The location is a short stroll to town centre, which is a pleasant place with every take away you could want.

We were so looking foward to staying here as I had stayed here 20+ years ago and had a great experience as a child. After travelling for 3 hours to get here found no one around, rang the bell, checked the restaurant not a single soul in site! After waiting 15-20mins rang the assistant manager after finding her card in Reception who advised she would be there soon. When she showed, I asked about the hotpools after seeing a sign saying they were closed for maintance, so disapointinng as this was the only reason that we had booked here. I queried her to as why people who had booked hadnt been advised of this prior to arrival and was told she didnt think it was nessacery, was then told that the restaurant and bar were also closed. After such a horrid experince on arrival we opted not to stay and found better accomodation down the road with absolutely lovely staff.

We recently had our work conference here. I have to say we were all blown away and had a positive experience. The owners and staff are genuinely friendly, caring and accommodating and go out there way to ensure everything meets your requirements. The rooms were very clean and tidy and our breakfast and lunchs were fantastic, Very tasty(esp the pizzas) and the facilities are great, huge bar and dinning area with loads of areas to sit and chill. Highly recommended for either a business conference or personal trip. A bit of a hidden gem. Many thanks
