Detailed Reviews
Three of us visited for lunch after walking around town.
We have all dined many times before but today, even a Public Holiday with surcharge, very disappointed in our meals.
Vegetarian pizza thin base (ok) but toppings and cheese very dry. Did not seem freshly made. Chicken wraps with side of fries also not worth $25+ At least the chicken was tasty.

The Blue pub in Methven provides a good, basic New Zealand experience.
Good food, good beer, friendly service, good aircon on a hot day.
We arrived for a late lunch at 2pm, but were still able to eat at this time.
The food was good and arrived in good tiem. Service was friendly.
Plenty of street parking nearby.

Visited mid-week for lunch on a nice sunny day. Food was very good pub-style food. Lamb Shank and Chicken Wrap were great. Inside and outside seating. Great friendly service. Guiness on tap. Popular bar in the middle of Methven. Free parking close by.

For what-ever reason, my entree and main (steak) arrived together. So I sent the main back to the kitchen as it would've just got cold while I ate my entree.
To the full credit of the chef, when they brought my main out once I was ready for it, the whole meal had been completely re-cooked from fresh rather than tried to be kept warm.
So 100% for service due a mistake on their part.

Visited here for dinner on New Years Day. Service was poor, we had to go and find our own menus, no one brought us any. We found it particularly uncomfortable that the bar staff requested our credit card to hold behind the bar while we ate ‘in case we ran away’. How rude and worrying. If we had other options to feed our children we would have left.

I have stopped here once or twice, and decided to stop for lunch on my way home from a weekend away on Labour Day. The pub is...lets just narrow it down to...... dirty!, everything stuck to the floor including yourself!...with one exception... the table oddly!, of which that was so rocky it made the nearby mountain look like a skate park! There was a 15% surcharge for "eating in" even though they "chose to open on a public holiday", this wouldn't have been a problem, except the kitchen was only offering a "half" menu, when we asked if there were any specials, the bartender/waitress slung an arm back and pointed behind her, didn't bother to elaborate just gave us a sour look as though we were wasting her time... We sat by the window as it was raining outside, where we were treated to the "owner" hollering across the bar to other patrons, judging by his demeanour I wondered where he was just released from.. our meal finally arrived after a 20 minute wait.. a burger and fish and chips...! of which was basically left on the plate as was.... it has to be the most awful meal I and my companion had ever had the misfortune of being given...certainly NOT worth the 15% surcharge... I refrained from visiting the bathroom before departure as I was not keen to see what awaited me in there, as the windows and sills were covered in food and dead insects and something that resembled liquid once... before it dried to a smeary curtain on the window pane... this place was disgusting and left me wanting to take a shower once I had left the premises, the service was a waste of time and money...3 bartender/waitresses ?? who stood around twiddling their thumbs.. why weren't they earning that 15% surcharge and make them selves useful and tidy the place up?? Needless to say I will NEVER be back to this "place" I seriously recommend you hit the local chippy or the Irish establishment just behind these guys! MUCH BETTER!!

Had a meal at the Blue pub, there isn't much choice in this small town but we chose you! Although our meal was good the staff seem disinterested in individuals and there was no welcome or friendliness evident. Sorry Blue pub, you weren't that busy, are you interested in people ir not?

The Blue Pub is hard to miss when passing through the small village of Methven. In winter, the place is packed with sun-tanned skiers and baggy snowboarders, combined with a few locals. Having a beer here is a good cooldown after you shred nearby Mount Hutt. Situated above the Blue Pub, the owner has decided to extend his business by including hostel styled accommodation. However, a great pub does not automatically make for great lodging.
Noting the right things first, the place is smack in the middle of Methven –right above the Blue Pub. The accommodation consists of several types of rooms, with generally fair pricing. The place has shared bathroom and kitchen facilities, which are clean and well equipped. A good-sized balcony on the front side of the building allows for good relaxing.
However, there are several flaws to the combination of the Pub and the Hostel. First of all, the organization of the place is rather awkward. The check-in is at the bar and seems quite sloppy. The entrance of the accommodation is through the back, next to the kitchen and refrigeration containers. The doors are not secure, so basically anyone can walk in. Furthermore, apart from the fact that ALL the rooms are very noisy due to the pub below, especially the rear facing rooms should be avoided at all cost. The refrigeration and air-conditioning units will keep the least sensitive sleepers awake. Finally the Wi-Fi in the Blue Pub accommodation is horrible – apparently the place is unable to supply larger than 20Mb (!!) vouchers. Basically, you’re stuck with reconnecting every 5 minutes.
In sum, a great pub below – but a place to avoid if you are looking for a good night rest. There are ample alternatives available in Methven. So go for a beer and a burger, but don't stay overnight.

Danger, Danger! You are going to a resort area -- be prepared to pay outrageous prices for crappy food and terrible service. Unless, of course, you stop at the Blue Pub in Methven.
I dropped into Methven in late January 2014 for a business meeting the following day, and my host arranged for us all to dine at the Blue Pub. (Special note: The Blue Pub is right across the street from The Brown Pub, and apparently the two facilities have very different ambiance.) We sat outside and enjoyed the late summer evening. The air was warm, the breeze was fresh, the patio was charming, and parking is free. (Please note we did not sleep overnight at the Blue Pub, but it does offer B&B style rooms; check the other reviewers for their comments on the hotel.)
Our group of four chose a wide variety of dinners, and we gobbled up everything in sight. We started with the calamari which was very tasty, and not deep-fried as it so often is in pubs. Then I had the lamb; another of us had a steak, another had the salmon and so on; everything came out promptly and was cooked perfectly. Everybody enjoyed their meal very much. Dinner for four with a generous portion of adult beverages (2 bottles of wine etc) was just over NZ$200.
I can only imagine when winter comes and the ski slopes open this pub must be packed and lively, but in the middle of the summer it was relaxed and charming. It's a pub, not fine dining, but everything was tasty and well-prepared, so I have no reservations about recommending the Blue Pub to you.

Small room, low on luxury, but great value. We even stayed an extra night!
Food in pub was excellent, local sausages, plenty gravy & mash. All staff very nice. Best value ski accommodation in NZ. Book ahead, surprisingly busy

Hi there. Yes there is a shared kitchenette and small lounge area. The kitchen has a microwave, jug and fridge freezer for guest use.
Cheers!
