Lovely spacious cottage, all the amenities of home and easily the nicest place that we stayed while in New Zealand. Because it was off-season for skiing, the price was amazing. Provided a perfect base for our young family to explore the beautiful Methven area and do some day trips a bit further afield in the Canterbury region. Easy walk into town for shopping, dining, and children's playground.

We stayed in autumn so only a couple of the cottages were occupied but it would be full in winter I would think. Downstairs spacious well equipped kitchen with good size kitchen table and chairs, 4 ring ceramic stove top, good oven, dishwasher and pantry with good supply of china and glassware. Good electric heater in this area plus laundry with w/machine and dryer, plus airing cupboard and downstairs toilet. Sitting room with 2 comfortable couches, TV and excellent gas fire with fan for good heat distribution. Two ensuite (shower, WC and basin) bedrooms upstairs with king size bed plus single in each room (could be 3 singles). Note stairs are quite steep. Only slight problem was that the cottage could have done with a good spring clean - but this might be partly due to staying out of season. The bathrooms were clean. We appreciated the gas heater being lit to warm up the cottage before our arrival. 5 min walk into town where there is a good array of services including 2 supermarkets. Free wifi and free off street parking.

A very spacious self catering cottage with many homely touches. We arrived in the evening to find the lamps and gas fire lit, a very welcoming site for weary travellers. A chocolate each plus tea, cofee, hot chocolate, milo and basic spices etc in the grocery cupboard. The beds are extremely comfortable, with both bath and shower. We were there in the summer, can only imagine how lovely it would be in the Winter. Would definitely recommend.

We came to Methven NZ to ski Mt Hutt for the second time in two years. This year we desided on the Whitestone Cottages in Methven fo our accommodation.
The house was one in a setting of four and it was an absolutely fantastic house and good value for money. The house has two medium sized bedrooms upstairs both with en-suite bathrooms. The bedrooms have a king plus one single bed.
The kitchen was very well appointed and large enough for a large kitchen table, the dishwasher is gold when you are on holidays.
The living-room has an open fireplace and the kids loved sitting in front of it enjoying kids telly on cable after a day on the slopes.
I could only really find one thing to improve with this place and that would be heating in the entrance room to dry wet ski ware after days skiing.
This place could easily accommodate two small families or one large family without having to trip over each other.
The resort manager OJ was also very welcoming and was very kind to organise a USB internet stick for the day my wife had to do a conference call for work, how good is that??
Will defiantly return to this place for our trip next year. Can really recommend this place for anyone coming to this area for a holiday.

Beautifully appointed cottages in a unique setting, extremely private from one another. We found our cottage to have a well stocked pantry, although chose to dine out. Very spacious interior with restful decor and all the mod cons. Walking distance in to the main township (approx 10 mins brisk walk). The two bedrooms upstairs both have king size and single beds and both are ensuited. Although we stayed just the one night this visit, the environment was so relaxing we felt like we had been there for a long weekend:) Have already recommended it to others. The township itself was fairly quiet at this time of the year but there was still plenty to see and do, and many dining options available to suit any budget.

We stayed two nights here during the last week of ski season in October 2012. The cottage was very spacious with 2 bed and 2 bath upstairs (sleeps 6) and kitchen and living downstairs. The fireplace in the living room was very welcome as the weather was still cold. Internal heating systems were available in all the other rooms. The laundry was handy, allowing us the catch up on washing/drying. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils, if not a little to well loved and dated. We ate out each day but I'm sure the kitchen was perfectly functional. The pantry was stocked with previous guests condiments, cereals etc. Wi-Fi was free which was excellent. A very important aspect especially with Instagram addicts. OJ popped in to check on us which was lovely and he was very friendly. Dealing with him beforehand online was a pleasure. He was very understanding and accommodating.
The town was a 1 min drive away. Being the end of season the town looked a little deserted but we didn't mind no crowds. We ate at the Japanese restaurant Aqua near the cinema. The dumplings were amazing. Saki was very good too. This place came recommended by a young man at the information office and we highly recommend it also.
The mountain ended up being closed the day we wanted to go snowboarding due to high winds but we found an excellent alternative. Drive up to Terrace Downs Resort and book yourself with Neil and Sandra to do some pigeon clay shooting and archery. It was the best day and we highly recommend it! Neil and Sandra were professional, friendly and down to earth.The views at the resort were breathtaking.

My husband and I chose Whitestone Cottages for our base for our two month holiday in South Island. We arrived at the beginning of February and the weather was just perfect. Just one hour drive from the airport and in a central location it had all we needed for a comfortable stay. Our daughter and new grandson flew in from Australia and OJ provided us with a cot and high chair and also helped us in all things NZ. We all loved the cottage and were sorry to have to leave. Methven is a serious contender for a summer holiday and not just for winter sports. Now back in the UK I think back to our wonderful holiday and would like to thank OJ and all the team for making our stay perfect.

Spacious accommodation being one of four self-contained cottages, each set well apart from the others to provide great privacy. Very well equipped with all necessary appliances and amenities, including full laundry. An easy walk (probably about 1 klm) to Methven village.Our cottage was nearest to the road but any road noise was barely noticeable. Be aware that it is necessary to collect the cottage keys from a different establishment, but it is only a few hundred metres away on the same road. Encountered a few minor "home handyman" matters, but not worthy of reporting in any detail. All in all a wonderful accommodation. Recommended.

We were taken by surprise that this cottage was completely ours. No reception desk, instead a white board to direct us to our cottage. Very spacious and it sleeps at least 6 with 2 bedrooms. Excellent bedding. Since we stayed here in December the place was pretty empty. We expect this will be different during the ski season. We loved the fire place and the free wifi in the house. Also private washer and dryer available which we did not check upfront so we had just done our laundry in the previous hotel with coins. Complete kitchen with everything you need so we decided to prepare our own dinner and enjoyed some nice wine. Supermarket at 5 minutes drive.

Hi Appletreelane, We are glad you got to enjoy the peace of Whitestone Cottages and the lovely estate. We try not to intrude and there is no reception at the cottages – we are only ever a phone call or text message away, should you need us. The cottages are very spacious, especially for 2 people, it might even be seen as a little big but if you are like me, you like your space a little bit. Winter is our busy season but summer is slowly becoming the new busy season. We do suggest to guests to check our website direct for availability and the best price (guaranteed) as this is updated regularly. Busy times can be tricky as there are only a few cottages available at any given time. Yep – washer and dryer, so no need to worry about that. Dishwasher too – and we supply the detergents for all of these machines: It is all part of the service. And yep - the entire cottage is yours, it is never shared with anyone (unless you want to share of course) thank you again and we hope to see you again soon.
