Detailed Reviews
Our family had a one night stay in a family room at Redwood Lodge. The room and Lodge were spotless and incredibly comfortable. The room itself was quite small but sufficient for our family. We could also easily make use of the communal dining room/lounge /kitchen which was fully kitted out. The location is easy to access in Methven and we were very close to Mt Hutt. We will definitely look to stay here again.

My husband and I rang late looking for a room. From this first phone call the service has been above and beyond. The place feels like a home. It is spacious, well decorated, and spotless. Had the best nights sleep in Room 4. Martin and Liz made us so welcome. Would be a superb place to book out for a large group.

A short but extremely pleasant stay. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet Martin, however Lisa was absolutely lovely. They also have a very friendly sheep called snapper that lives in the paddock next to the lodge that loves to come up for a scratch :) genuine people running a genuine business, highly recommend. Thanks Martin and Lisa, all the best!

We could not have stayed in a better place in Methven for skiing Mt. Hutt. I stayed with my son for 4 days in the redwood lodge which is under new mangement. The hosts are incredibly friendly and the living room just like home. Plus there is a well equipped and spacy kitchen and a large and cosy living room with a fire place. Rooms are clean and well maintained and from what we experienced in NZ this place is excellent value considering pricing and what is being offered. The lodge is in a very quiet location but not far from the centre (Methven anyway is very small). I would definitely stay again in the red wood lodge, when coming back to NZ. We can only recommend it very warmly and without hesitation to anybody who likes this kind of cosy, open and friendly athmosphere.

We loved our stay here.
The rooms are of good size with comfy beds and electric blankets to keep you toasty warm.
The kitchen is large with good facilities and there is a giant dining / living room with a great log fire.
It's the perfect place to return to after a long day on the slopes. The ski bus will pick you up and drop you off at the top of the street and there is a storage room and a drying closet for your gear.
It's also a good location from Methven; 5mins walk from supermarket, pubs, restaurants, I-site, but off the main road so it's nice and quiet.
If you like animals there is a little field with two sheep a Lama and an Alpaca in to keep you amused.
There's a really nice atmosphere to this place. Liz and Martin the new owners make you feel very welcome and will really go the extra mile for you. We'll be back!!

+1
My friend booked this thinking it was more of a hotel lodge, but it was more of a shared lodge. They said they were usually busy in ski season since it's close to the mountain, but this night there were only 3 of us there. It was a house/lodge that had several private bedrooms, some with ensuites, but since there were only 2 rooms rented this night she gave us a room with two twins and a shared bath, but it was just ours. We stayed in Room 5 at the end of the hall that shared a bath with 1 other room. The bedroom itself had two twins beds, a couple of dressers and a small tv. The lodge area itself had a large shared tv/dining area with a big screen tv, large couches and chairs, a fireplace and a big 8-10 person table. The kitchen area was also large and shared. The fridges had sections marked off for each room to keep their items separate and there were also baskets in the kitchen to keep your dry items separate. They also had a shared area for items left over or of general use. The night we stayed the owners neighbor had brought over some fresh eggs and she put them out for us to have for breakfast which was very nice. The kitchen was very well stocked with a full size 6 burner stove and lots of utensils and pots and pans for cooking. The tv room had a choice of dvds and there were also books and cds available to use. There was also an outside seating area off the kitchen. The lodge was a nice place to stay for the night, especially since there were only 3 of us staying there, but you would have to be comfortable sharing a place with people if you stayed here during the busy season. I can imagine its a happening place in the winter and if you need a place close to Mt. Hutt it would be a great place to stay.

Very nice place to stay with friendly owner and nice guests.
Kitchen is clean, large lounge.
Walking distance to town centre (Methven is small town though)
After I checked-out I had a trouble with a car. It was a bit early morning but she helped me a lot!!! Thanks so much.

Skil lodges are not usually our thing but as we intended to eat out during our one night night stay, it seemed sensible to shoot for a middle standard. It was lovely, and we virtually had the place to ourselves.
Room three has bathroom (with heater) , electric blankets, oil heater, free wi-fi (worked perfectly in-room despite Booking.com noting "in public areas"), bedlights, comfortable bed, crisp linens, in short, everything an elderly couple could want.
Log burner a beauty; so hot the door to the large, comfortable common room has to be left ajar. How civilised to sit on a comfy couch watching large-screen TV, a glass of sav and know its 8C outside!
Didn't use the communal kitchen for more than tea and coffee, but it passed my critical eye with flying colours. Walked 650m to the Irish under street lamps and back.
Interesting to see that all the recent reviews, since Liz and Martin have taken over, are unconditionally positive. They deserve to do well.

Great experience and an awesome place. Really convenient and only a few minutes walk to the city. Wife's watch was left behind and was contacted by the owner (Liz) and the watch was mailed with no extra charge. Highly recommended and certainly will be back again.
