Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

as soon as we arrived we were treated with friendliness. It was raining but we quickly entered the property and tea and freshly made cake was available. Lizzie had to go out but we had a great chat with John and then Lizzie returned and the chat continued. We were the only guests staying and so got a very personal service.
They advised of places to eat which was great.
The breakfast was the best we had on our 4 week trip around New Zealand.
We left feeling they had made us very welcome into their home and we would definitely stay here again if we come back to this part of the world.

The warm welcome and generous hospitality of hosts, Liz and John was just fantastic. This was my first stay at Skibo House in Methven for some snowboarding fun and it will not be my last. I would highly recommend Skibo House to anyone seeking a warm, cosy and restful, quiet place to get away from it all. It is located just a very short walk (easily less than 5mins stroll) from any of Methven's quality local restaurants, pubs and cafes etc. The Studio room with Ensuite in which I stayed was great value, clean, tidy and roomy and the lounge area with the magnificent open fire is very relaxing in the evenings for a casual chat with other guests or a few laughs with Liz and John. A delicious cooked or continental breakfast with porridge or Liz's tasty home-made bircher muesli awaits every morning with plenty of choice and great views of Mt Hutt out the front window, which just adds to the experience.

Family of 5, skied in Mount Hutt, on our way to Wanaka. We stayed 2 nights at Lizzy and John's B&B. It was a great experience! We had the 3 rooms upstairs and enjoyed the lounge area and its fireplace. The place is clean, comfortable and Lizzy and John are lovely and friendly people! Last but not least, Lizzy makes an awesome breakfast. Really good value, I definitely recommend this B&B.

Had a warm and comfortable stay with Liz and John. Just like staying with family. Close to town, for restaurants cinema etc. A wealth of local knowledge from congenial hosts. Loved the fire and breakfasts.

My husband, adult son, adult nephew and myself spent a week at Skibo B & B in Methven with Lizzie and John. It is perfect location both to the beautiful Mt Hutt for snowboarding and to town for all amenities (The Blue Pub and The Brown Pub both in short walking distance and both providing great meals). The view over Mt Hutt and surrounding Mts from our upstairs rooms was beautiful. We had the whole of upstairs which was perfect and felt like home. The rooms were spacious and cosy, the bathroom/shower area very well appointed, the breakfasts healthy, hearty, filling and scrumptious (Lizzie's poached eggs and scrambled eggs are perfect - worthy of masterchef hey Lizzie). My son and nephew devoured the Swiss muesli, porridge, juice, bacon, sausages, eggs and toast with gusto which gave them plenty of energy for our trips up the mountain where I have to say the snow was also amazing. John and Lizzie are the most wonderful and entertaining hosts with great knowledge of local areas (and beyond) and always at the ready with a joke and sense of humour which kept me in stitches. Their kindness and 'no rules' when eating policy allowed this sometimes tired body to sleep in and certainly made our stay very memorable and thoroughly enjoyable. We were grateful for the hot tub under the stars at the end of some very exhausting days and I would not hesitate to go back in an instant or recommend this wonderful B & B to anyone.

My daughter and I did a last minute trip to New Zealand to Mt Hutt to fit in a bit of skiing. We were lucky to find Skibo on the net and couldnt have asked for a more welcoming place to stay.
The rooms were lovely and warm, the breakys were delicious and Liz and John were so welcoming and accommodating, they made us feel part of the family.
Because we were last minute they were fully booked one night and we had to find alternative accommodation, which Liz assisted us with and John picked up our bags so that it didnt interfer with our skiing.
The bus to Mt Hutt picked us up at the door which made life easy. It is only a short stroll into town for dinner and Liz helped us with all her local knowledge and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. We hope to return again next year.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for a weekend - the house was so lovely and warm and the breakfast was excellent. The B & B is right in town so it made it easy to go out for dinner and drinkies and walk back. We had a spa late at night under the stars - gorgeous.
I work in travel and was really impressed with the quality of this property, highly recommend!

Stayed at Skibo House recently to walk in the Alps near Mt Hutt.
It was an excellent place the be based. Lovely warm house and we had a bedroom overlooking the mountains. Everything was wonderful with comfortable bed and soft sheets and very clean bathrooms. Shampoo, towels etc all provided.
Our hosts Lizzie and Johnny were so welcoming and knowledgeable about the area with suggestions of where to walk and what to see.
The "icing on the cake" were the magnificent breakfasts - incredible porridge, cooked breakfast with free range eggs and asparagus- enough to last you all day! We had the use of a comfortable lounge with a log burning stove which made us feel very much at home- thank you. We will be coming back.
